Tried them both today. Both sounded great. The touch of the 745 was lighter and more pleasant. The 775 was stiff and sluggish - presumably because it mimics a 9' concert grand. You've got to ask yourself, do I want to play a 9' concert grand at home, or a nice baby grand? Also, the music stand of the 775 was quite a bit higher above the keys than the 745, awkward. I was surprised to find that I preferred the 745, regardless of the higher specs of the 775.

      @@Pablo.Albino That's correct, you'd need the 785 or 795 for that.

Today I played both clp745 and 775 even 785. The touch feels quite same between 745 and 785.
However,775 has unique touch, which I loved! (Very sleek, firm and kneat while 745 and 785 has soft touch when keyboard hits the bottom) If i read the written explanation actually 775 and 785 should not have a not difference, yet the 775 touch and sound was better. So I chose 775!! I love this sound!
Yamaha clp series has same grand piano sounds yet, actual sound is different! Clp775 and p515 only has it!! YOU SHOULD TRY.

For anyone reading this in 2022, I've been and played both. The action of the 775 is heavy. It lacks counterweighting found on the 785 (at a much higher price point). I suppose it depends on what you like, but the 775 was hard work. I didn't enjoy it. Then again I didn't like the NU1X either, terrible concussive feedback from the keys. CA79 seems good value but the sound seemed to far away and as thought it was coming from a box, which of course, I suppose it is. Also, slow display on Kawai and it just didn't feel premium. Considering the price points, the 745 would be my choice for a digital piano at the moment.

775 action is heavy? I wouldn’t agree. Yes it feels heavier than 745 but that’s what makes it authentic to an acoustic piano. Most acoustics I’ve played feel heavier than 775. If you are taking piano seriously, definitely get 775 instead of 745, because you want to build your muscle memory with a piano that feels as acoustic as possible. Once you’re used to playing on lighter actions, you are just gonna sound horrible on a real piano.

Gracias!

@@whatshouldinamemyself481 +1, Totally agree with your assessment. I also tried the 775, 745, and p515 along with a GB1K next to it, and the weight between the grand and the 775 was closely identical. The 775's action is "heavy", but good lord it is one well-engineered action in my opinion. Excellent pivot length on top of that firm responsiveness. I wish i had better finger strength haha

745 has more pleasent keys. 775's keys feel like they reflect the impact force of a hard key press back into your finger, while the 745 absorbs the shock without becoming sluggish.

What would be your advice for a Piano for a 6 year old? I am afraid the keys of the 775 are heavier than the 745 for a child, or that is not something to be too concerned about? the 775 is fine?

The child is fine. i would say i only notice when playing lots of chords, which for me and the child's level is not yet the case. I think when i get there i will be accustomed. My brother-in-law who plays very well had no issues.

The 775 is SOOOO much better than the 745. Those keys are a pleasure to play. Thankfully my 5yo was quite comfy with the keys of the 775, so that's what we bought instead of the 745. I honestly found a miniscule difference in the sound and feel between the 775 and 785 at a much lower price point. I'm so glad I went into a local store, because Yamaha hasn't launched the 775 in the US yet, and we got to play and buy it already instead of being stuck with a 745 (I personally didn't like the sound or keyboard action on it).

It really sucks that these pianos are so much more expensive in the US. Really really really sucks. I don't have $6000 to spend on a fricken digital piano. It's so BS. I will not get any stupid keyboard with a lighter action. Light actions on these digital pianos absolutely ruin the feel for me.

  • @victors3803

Both pianos are bad. I bought Yamaha CLP-745, when I watched some CZcams videos, that I think were payed for by Yamaha. When I first played the piano i instantly understood that the sound is electronic and cheap. The keys and the touch are alright, but the sound is no good. I played it for a year and more or less got used to its sound. But when a year later I came as a guest to a house where an old soviet piano from 60-s was I immediately again faced the difference between a real piano and a digital one.
And what is most bad about Yamaha digital pianos - is that their sound library looses totally to a free of charge "garage band steinway" that everyone has on their MacBooks. I now only use my CLP-745 as a keyboard that is connected to my Mac. And after all that's been said the question is - what for should you buy CLP-745 if it is much much better to buy a 3-4 times cheaper but better keyboard that you can connect in a second to your Mac, iPad or iPhone?
There is nothing good in Yamaha - sound library is poor(Bersendorfer and CFX are loosing to garage band), the looks is cheap (it is made of plywood but not wood), the speakers are poor.
I have another set up at my out of town house. I have an old StudiologicVMK-188 that costs a fraction of Yamaha. And I have my Mac, connected to it. And It is much better than Yamaha alone.
