I came for the hydrofoil. I stayed for the 80s television series music.
I used to drive commercial passenger hydrofoils, this is a great concept.
Please keep building!!!
The point with this design is to stop the waves you hit from making the craft bounce and it's like adding shock absorbers to a boat, because it makes the ride so much more comfortable. It also reduces the fuel needed as there is less surface area touching the water, which means less wasted energy and better fuel efficiency. A good design for a daily water commute to work, and fun too.
ahh the good times we had, i remember driving that beauty.
OH MY GOD THAT IS HILARIOUS! The 80's theme song, the "doo-doooo"s, the multiple takes of it racing by timed with the music...IT'S ALL SO CHEESY AND 80's AND LAME THAT I LOVE IT!
"QUICK! TO THE HYDROFOIL!"
This video never gets old
I know when I was like 11, our family went to Wiesbadden Germany, and we Rode up and down the Rhine River on a Hydrofoil. It was way bigger than this though, and held like 50 people. This was in like 1994 when I went and rode this.
hydro foil is a great concept. With only a small foil in the water there is less resistance for greater speed and less fuel consumption.
Playing it over and over for the cool sound track!
There are those 'things' you just have to have or try in life, a wingsuit, a miniature helicopter of plane, a gokart, one of those motorized skateboards you lay down on, stuff like that.
This is one of em...
I love how this little boat can slice thru another boat wake w/o any dramatic effects. I wonder how much horsepower this boat has?
This is amazing. No turbulence of wave impact. That spells a smooth uninhibited ride.
I don't know what's more amazing, this boat or the music.
Thanks Ray! This defies description.
Advantages:
Less friction = more efficient.
Smoother ride from not slamming/bouncing on waves.
Several disadvantages... Look what it takes to launch it and try to imagine what you would do to to get it from the garage to the lake. This would be for true foil lover.
What a beautiful boat and great video.
FINALLY! A boat video with music I love!!
*HEY!* The '80s called! They want their muzac back!
+ZZ Cat - ... but they can't have it, because it's so awesome?
steve1978ger That & we stole it. Hehehehehheheheheh
Jokin' aside, it reminds me of Miami Vice.
those foils are amazing!
Thanks Ray for sharing....
Awesome soundtrack!
Nice design. 40 mph is impressive speed on the ocean. The height would give it a smooth ride too. No sea sickness, ftw.
You got that right. I wish to go back there. Times of opportunities
Nice...This is for those who appreciate and respect the water..Nice vessel.
Nice boat. The music and editing make me want to pierce my eardrums and gouge out my eyes.
Looks like a blast.
Tx for the advise.
Kool Design:
broken Jetski, Kayak, bits and pieces,
I could pull that off, Salute to you!
you must be new to youtube.... 5 years ago this was the ONLY resolution
Just recently picked up a couple free Yamaha VXR 650 waverunners and boy do I have some plans. (they need a LOT of work though)
That's cool, cheers Greg
Genius. I love it!
@JulioHooligan I believe it's on the back strut, there's an opening near the bottom you can see when it's out of the water.
This video embodies the 80's
Bevis....I believe this is the coolest thing I've ever seen.
Ray Thank you its Amazing design, Can I have details to build one?
The 'Foil is awesome!!!
The music.....ahhhhh......I think it was named "Torturous Boredom."
@dieseldog00 My guess would be the water intake is located at the front of the rear foil.
A true 90's badass... (complete with theme music)
Cool. Funky music too.
Cool, eco-friendly and more efficient!
Nothing like being out on the open water.....trapped in a space capsule.....ahhh the freedom....
I need one of these, NOW!!!
@dieseldog00 I'm guessing the rear strut is actually hollow and is the intake duct for the jet. seems the only way it could do this.
Great vintage porn music :D
@smobyles driving on the small thingies under the boat means
Less resistance -> more speed and less fuel
@JA7036 Less drag of water on the hull, it rides on a pair of small fins under the water, and it can go a lot faster on less power - and have a smoother ride - than if it just floated.
love the music
i remember seeing this boat on an old tv show called , beyond 2000
i seem to recall that Feliz Wankel made a boat like this about thirty years ago, cross between a torpedo and a hydofoil...called the Z boat
How does the jet drive get water up to the housing? Might it come up the foils?
the music is what make this more appealing...i want one..lol
Quite right. You've got a point. Either way a person would be in deep (pun unintended) trouble. Weather to get sliced by a fast underwater wing or bludgeoned by a fast moving hull. A far, far less important consideration would be the cost to the owner of the 'foil vs the standard speed boat.
@JA7036 Apparently it's because it takes more energy to displace the same volume of water than it does air, basically because water is more dense or some shit.
Do you have any idea how smooth of a ride that would be and how fast it could go there would very little drag
@smobyles there is way less drag; water is very heavy to move around the entire boat, if you just have to move it around 2 small foils, it takes less work i.e. you go faster maybe?
The quality of the video looks like a video tape camera, goes well with the music
bad ass bass on the sound track!!!!
awesome music!
@dieseldog00 you can see the tiny jet intake in the bottom of the rear foil at 0:20
You must have to balance it like a bike. Even if the boat itself doesn't make good sense it looks like fun and I enjoyed the video.
Man the 90s was dope
BEST MUSIC EVER!
ok, well how does the engine/prop touch the water to propel it? that inboard prop needs water just like a jet ski, but i dont see how it would get its water intake,
80s music is awesome!
looks like a 80´s commercial break for waterproofed suppositories :D
@dieseldog00
theres an inlet on the rear foil
fantastic.
¿what speed can you reach?
¿what engine power?
I was thinking that as well.
wow, when it's up on the stand things it could cut through any wake without even trying
NICE TURN ANGLE
You're a genius.
is that a wand on the front of the boat like on the hydrofoil moths that controls altitude in the water? And can he control roll too?
Combine that with a wing in ground effect and wow. That would be awesome.
What do you do when you're sinking and can't open the canopy?
The song seems to be the one played right after the hero after killing the Godzilla. But I want one of this boat !
Yall keep those hovercraft hybrids commin,q makin a good one, eldridge air curtain ,kinky.
realy fantastic
@dieseldog00 intake is on front of rear foil
wonderful!!!!!
amazing move
hard to understand how the jet works, inlet and with the outlet so high above the water. how much HP does this boat have ?
NIce 80's video
can i ask what other alien tech is out there in ur opinion?
Super !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a lower jet, also... or just the one that shoots out like a fire hose???
Cool post!
Does any one know where or how is the water pick up for the water jet? I can't see any tubes or anything.
This craft needs a third down rigger on the back this way gives it a caster affect for the person in the back TO WOBBLY THIS WAY cool idea .
That thing looks squirrelly as fuck
@dieseldog00 intake on the bottom of the foil?
@dieseldog00 There's a cavity inside the rear elm and maybe a water pump just like in a standard motor car pumps the marine water in the proximity of the cylinders so you can have an open circuit cooling system.
so glad im not the only one.
@dieseldog00 trought the hollow pipes of the foils?
Why didn't this energy saving idea ever got popular?
Wait till about 4:02 min into it at that point I couldn't help but start nodding my head to the intense sounds comming thru my speakers, WTF who am i kidding i was jamming out the whole time, forget the hydrofoil
this is cool!
I wonder why you can't buy one. Does anyone know where I can get the engineering to build one? This looks like it was adapted from a jetski.
That's cool
very cool
wouldent it be better for the jet to discharge into the water rather than the air? i meen surley theres more resistance in the water so its going to propel itself better. i see little or no need in this.
