- Have you ever wanted to have your phone or other personal objects handy while in costume? How to Make Gears of War cosplay functional pouches out of Foam! In this series I will be creating Marcus Fenix's armor from Gear of War 1 & 2. In this particular video I am building and painting the eva foam "leather" pouches and bringing it to life. Painting is always my favorite part of the process and it requires lots and lots of layers. I do have free PDF templates of the chest armor available on my website if you'd like to make your own.

I made belt pouches for my Mando Heavy armor and they were amazing to have. Mine weren't quite big enough but I learned from it. Having accessible pockets in a cosplay is incredible. Having a handy place to carry a water bottle is even better. **grumbles about conventions in mid-summer** You took the paint job to the next level for sure. I always learn new things watching your tutorials. Thank you, Steve!

Yeah, as you said - "a pretty decent job" 😛 I'm not quite sure how you grade your scales there, but an "excellent job" would probably make all other propmakers quit and get a 9 to 5 job 😉

I love these videos. really thinking of making my own at some point. There is one question about the prop, like a lancer/torque bow. Do you have a template for some sort of harness to put it on your back like in character, or would it be better to go with some sort of strap? I'm not sure how the foam would hold up carrying something like that might also be to bulky to wear on the back too I'm not sure. Thanks
I just carried it the whole time at DragonCon for pics there wasn't ever a need to have it on my back. Depending on what you are making some very strong magnets would be the most likely option vs a strap
Hey Steve, one question may you have done a video showing how the matching belt that goes with the armor is done?
Not yet I’m have to go back through the sd cards to make sure I recorded all of it. I jump from project to project so I don’t get burnt out and was definitely feeling that on gears. To many damn templates to try and film / show how to build.

I am just starting to get into cosplay and I have seen your amazing Tech Priest from a few years ago.
I am interested in making my own but as I am not a very creative person and this is new to me, I am curious. Is it possible to outright purchase these from you?

I do still need to make the bicep, elbow, and forearm armor. hopefully that can be in place of upholstery muscles because those get so hot.

1. I see the links for two glues. Which did you actually use to glue the foam pieces? 2. Would using 6 mm foam for the sides make it weaker?
For this one I used Bob Smith superglue. I wouldn’t personally use 6mm it would make it structurally weaker but also there wouldn’t be enough surface area to glue and had some stick out

Nope, magnetic field isn't strong enough to cause damage to any of the phone's components

I don’t use a program all of my templates are hand drawn.
Then I’ll scan them into the computer and outline my drawings in photoshop to create the patterns people download.

Bob smith superglue medium gel but in the past I also used loctite professional
What strength of magnets are you using?
The package doesn’t have a strength on it but these are just the mini rare earth magnets from harbor freight. I will say they are stronger than some I picked up on amazon that are roughly the same size
