- How to connect a cheap monitor that doesn't have DisplayPort to a brand-new graphics card that only has one HDMI port. I got the cable and adapter on Aliexpress. Shipping time was 3-5 weeks - I ordered them nearly half a year before I finally bought a new graphics card though.
Per request in comments: This is the one I used s.click.aliexp...
I don't get why a modern GPU doesn't have more than one HDMI. Like that's the only one anybody uses, there should be more of those.
DP is more popular on monitors it seems not the other way around odd but that what adapters are for i guess my new mini pc has 3 DP ports i thought it was 2DP and 1 HDMI but not this one
Display port is much much more superior, it pushes a lot more bandwidth, and for gpu rendering display port is only way to get Above 8 bit color to 10 bit which alot of people use when rendering videos or developing games and you want accurate colors, also it pushes more hertz, so if you want 144Hz or 240Hz you then need a display port, because HDMI will only get up to 60 hertz, oh and how could I forget it's not just only 60Hz but hdmi 2.0 also can't go beyond 4k resolution, whereas display port offers up to 8k, and just this year new 7000 gpu's will have display port 2.0 which offers resolution of 15360 × 8460, which is pretty much double 8k, and with HDMI newest iteration, HDMI 2.1, it's not even fully adopted yet, and that only allows for max of 120Hz and up to 10k, but again stops at 120Hz, and that's only 4k at that 120 Hz, but only thing good about 2.0 when it does become more avaible, lower resolutions support up to 240Hz, but display port still leads and supports 360hz, not at 4k, but still damn that's a lot more Hz, and also will do 4k at 144hz, so display port is much more preferred is used way more is professional careers and workstations, which is well most gpu's are used anyway, so more display ports the better, it's just way more superior
I need help guys. I have a 4070 ti with a Samsung G5 1440p 144hz hz monitor. The monitor only came with 1 high speed hdmi cable. Is this cable gonna get me 1440p 144hz? If not what cable do I need exactly? Im so confused man.
@@CantTreadOnMe yes that will get you 1440p 144 easily
@@Saltermedia Thank you for clarifying that. My pc started up beautifully with monitor and everything works so far except internet connection for windows 11 setup. Guess I need an ethernet cable to connect for first time so I gotta go buy one cuz it wont pickup any wifi networks unfortunately.
Thank you! Simple and to the point and good info. I watched 3 other videos for this before I got here and yours is the only one that gave me a solid answer without wasting my time and boring me with extraneous nonsense.
The "ciao" at the end really filled my heart
Ps: I'm saying this because I'm Italian
I’m Puerto Rican and I appreciate it as well. 😎
I had no idea those plugs came out of the back. I thought they were supposed to stay in. Once I saw they could, I was able to set up my monitor with no problem! Thank you so much!
Wow just wow...
@@richardsalmon147 My comment was two years ago, also why are you making fun of me for not knowing something?
@@Tams1978 I wasn't making fun of you Tammy, I was just astounded at the lack of instruction given on these cards when they pack them. No insult intended

Accurate, compact, quick and direct to the point. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
Should discuss about the refresh rate too, getting cable/adapter is easy, but knowing whether the cable we want can run above 60hz can be a pita.
exactly i am looking for the same answer
thanks man this really helped solidify my theory, simple to the point and no unneeded knowledge.
Good man. One less headache for me thanks to you!
simple and to the point. Thanks :)
to put it simple words 0:44
source GPU - DP supports High refresh rate
screen supports HDMI.
Thanks! Saved my day.
I have two monitors that only have an hdmi port and a gpu with only one hdmi and one DisplayPort. So, I tried this method and my first monitor that was hdmi to hdmi (from monitor to gpu) worked fine. When I connected the second from hdmi to DisplayPort adapter in that port it didn’t work. Not sure what to do. My monitors don’t have DisplayPorts and I’m already using my only hdmi port so my second monitor needs help. The gpu also has 1 dvi port of that helps
sorry im confused, I have one hdmi port on my computer and one display-port port on my pc. One HDMI is already being used. but I have another hdmi monitor, so say I want to plug my other hdmi monitor into my display-port onto my pc. I would use this adapter correct? Meaning that an hdmi cable gets plugged into my monitor, and the display-port part gets plugged into my pc?
This is what I came to find out and the answer seems to be yes. You can connect any HDMI monitor to a displayport on your PC with a cheap adapter, but not the other way around
Thanks, this helped me to understand what I need.
Awesome. So my hdmi port monitor can use this to connect to my display port on my gpu? Needed this exact explanation thank you! :) completely forgot to check display port etc and just got a second monitor 😂
Bro an Elon Musk is over there !
Hello, I have a problem. My dad bought me a monitor before he left, it's a Dell E2420H. It only has Displayport and VGA. My laptop that I want to connect to only has HDMI. I looked everywhere but I only get DP to HDMI, as I need HDMI to DP.
Than you very much, it's really helpful!
My graphics card does not have a display port while my monitor will not work at its max potential with an hdmi. What should I do?
im in the same boat
Thanks! I bought a DisplayPort to HDMI cable for around 15 bucks and found out it didn't work.
Oh poor man
I wish i could've saved you
those 15 bucks aren't that easy
I understand
My monitor has Vga and hdmi port but graphics card has only dp port. I have bought two cables ( dp to hdmi) and ( dp to vga) but none of these are getting any display on my LED
those caps that you pulled of at the begining of the video there hard to come off how do you take it off cause i need help'
The problem with this, and it's something that NO ONE clarifies, is that by doing this, your monitors are caped at 60hz when doing anything fullscreen.
Why? Because your system tries to balance to the minimum hz monitors can run, and since you're using an adapter (which only lets you use 60hz) the it doesn't matter if you have 3 monitors at 240, you'll still be at 60.
What about HDMI 2.0 and 2.1?
So, I have this problem. I want to add a 2nd monitor to my set-up, but my GPU has only 1 HDMI port and 3 Display Ports. And the monitor I use only has Hdmi, and to use an adapter for the same monitor is having to revert back to to 60hz. 75 hz might not be that much faster but, is it the only way?budget is tight. 😔
so you install the HDMI cable to a monitor say like a tv? and the graphics card works? or do you still power it using Molex cables?
sorry for all the questions PC is new for me and I want to play 3ds games at above 50 fps cause my regular gpu can't stand it.
Do you have advise? I have a new Omen monitor which uses Display port adapter plug (I thinkk I have that right), but my Omen laptop has HDMI ports
thanks man!
Hi sir i need help , As i want to connect my broken screen laptop with monitor .But the problem is monitor has display port option and laptop has HDMI port . I wanna use monitor as a display to get data from laptop . Is it gonna work or otherway . Pls let me know .Thank you.
Yes, you need a HDMI to DisplayPort Adapter, NOT a DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter.
But it's likely the monitor has HDMI in too. Which monitor model is it?
@@SoSoTechTube its a Flat panel Monitor of Dell .Model -E2220H. It only have VGA And Display port options not the HDMI . So please suggest me what i need to get for this to connect it with my broken screen latop as laptop has a Option of HDMIport !!! If possible please share a link of that . Thank you .
Thanks this video really helped me. Because I have new monitor for ( second dsiplay) that doesn't support display port and the available slot on my graphics card is only display port so this helps me that (monitor) hdmi to graphics card (dsipaly port) will work. Thank you so much !:
just use dp cable, it has higher refresh rate
So my Omen 40L only has 1 HDMI which is currently used by my monitor. What do I do to plug my Elgato 60 to so I can stream my gaming stuff as well?
THANK U SO MUCH im still on the look for HDMI to DP but you made it much more simpler if there's any one that has a link to HDMI to DP please share it i would apreasiat it a lot
I have a GPU which has 3 display ports. I bought a cable which has a displayport on one end and HDMI on the other. But when I attach my HDMI monitor, it detects that a cable is connectecd, but it goes into power saving mode. Any solution?
I just bought a cable that is HDMI on one side and DisplayPort on the other. Both sides are male, so I plug the DP into my GPU and the HDMI into my monitor. My PC doesn't even recognize that I have anything plugged in. I do already have another monitor plugged into the regular HDMI port on the GPU. Any advice what on what could be wrong?
Im literally going through the same issue, im so lost🤒
Personally, I ended up buying a new cord and it worked, so I returned the first one a bought. Not sure if this will be the case for you, but I hope it helps.
@@DirtyDraqo just so yall know, these cables are UNIdirectional, mean they only work 1 way. If you get the wrong 1, it will not show up because it's meant for displayport to connect to monitor and hdmi to connect to pc/gpu. Make sure to get the cable that is displayport for pc/gpu and hdmi for tv/monitor. They can't be flipped around. (Yes I know this is a year old post, just informing you for future people)
i have the same cables as you and everything but im having a problem where my monitor isnt connecting do you know how to fix it ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling graphics drive too and that doesnt work
A quick question, will hdmi cable be able to produce 240hz?
I bought the displayport adapter to hdmi, for some reason i plug the displayport adapter into the back of the pc and then connect the hdmi to it and plug in into my vizio smart tv it pops up, but if i put the displayport into my graphics card and then attach the hdmi to it and plug it into my vizio smart tv it says no signal.?? Any thoughts on this?
Why would it work on the regular displayports that came with the pc and not the graphics card displayport??
So if a buy a dp to hdmi converter (cause my laptop has no dp port) and plug the convertor to my laptop, the monitor won’t work? If it works can i get more than 120hz support? And can i be able to use free-sync with my monitor? Because atm the monitor is connected to the internal gpu (intel uhd) and it doesn’t get the power it should i guess
I have a 4070 ti super and only the hdmi works. Displayports will not give me display at all and tried ot on 3 monitors.
i have the same adater for displayport to HDMI yet my second monitor still does not work
thank you so much i got a little confused here lol
can you recommend pne that can handle the data rates from today?
Idk why i even watched this,my computer worked fine before and now singal is off,so i checked hmid port and nothing was there, meaning it wasnt even needed before.Signal is off to the monitor tho, please help
My gpu HDMI doesn't show up on my monitor when i connect it idk what im doing wrong
Please help
Is there a difference between Cable Converter and a Adapter?
very helpful
Do I plug a dvi from the back of my Pc to my monitor ?
Is there a limitation with a display cord? Can it do 4k 120hz if i use it to hook up to a hdtv
I'm sure the one I bought is of the lowest quality. You'll have to look for adapters that state which versions of HDMI they support. Amazon's choice adapters for example have that info in the title even.
@@SoSoTechTube i actually found i was able to achieve higher hz with my display to display port on the 2k 165hz monitor. The hdmi i was using that came with it only allowed me 144hz. Thanks though, had no idea there was an alternative cord
Why not use daisy-chaining?
I bought a DP to HDMI cable which Im going to use for my Computer unit. I bought this because i thought its going to work. I have my Monitor with DP port, and a video card with HDMI port and DP also. But when I tiried to plugin it to HDMI port, its not working. And I watch your video that this wont work directly. Do you have any recommendation so I can use my current cable? Should I need to buy an HDMI to Displayport adapter?
same issue here, any resolutions?
Doesn't the monitor have hdmi?
I know some adaptors /cables only work one way and not the other. Best check the description again.
@@SoSoTechTube My monitor has only VGA and Displayport. I think it is my fault also not checking the difference of HDMI to DP cable. As of now I am using a VGA with HDMI Adapter. And with regards to my question last time, I already ask few people and they suggest that i should by a DP to DP cable to be sure that it will 100% work to my Computer. Anyway, Thank you also. This video is very informative.
THANKS
Nedd some help here. I have a PC with a GTX 1660TI, which has 1 HDMI slot and 1 DISPLAY PORT slot. HDMI is for my monitor screen, and DP should be for my smart TV, which is connected with this cable DP2HDMM5MB, it has 1 side DP and 1 side HDMI, i have no signal and i have checked the configurations, is there something else i'm forgetting to set up?
Hey that's excellent information!
If you connect the DP2HDMM5MB to the monitor instead of the TV, does it work?
If you connect the HDMI cable to the TV, does it work?
Can i use a HDMI port gpu in a DP port monitor please reply🎉❤
ok but can i connect monitor with displayport to hdmi gpu???

Can I use the adapter to get 120hz refresh rate?
where can i buy these? When i look up hdmi to display port it gives options of display port to hdmi instead. Is it possible for you to send me an amazon link for this cable?

ebay were everthing is like this or amazon i hate amazon lol
If i use hdmi to pd adapter can i reach 165hz ? cuz now im stuck at 120hz even though my screen support 165hz
What can I do since my graphic cards doesn’t have a display port ???? I need help with that
Well, the first question would be - what *does* it have? There are a lot of adapters and ways to connect around... dvi, vga, usb-c even, besides hdmi and displayport. I have used vga-to-hdmi adaptors short term but I don't know how reliable they are for long term use.
Can you tell if this kind of connection via the adapter, also performs at a Gbps signal bitrate of display port standard or HDMI port bitrate standard ?
whichever's the slower one. As for the displayPort speed. I would expect this particular adapter to be the lowest version. There might be adaptors that actually explain this information on their description pages. For example "Active Display Port to HDMI 2.0 Adapter,Anbear Displayort to HDMI2.0b Adapter for Enabled PC /Tablet to HDMI Monitor /TV/ Projector, Support HDR displays up to 4k,UltraHD,4096x2160@60Hz" explains the versions in the title even.
@@SoSoTechTube i have the same question as well..if we use the adapter, would it effect the performance..but now that i read it; it will follow the HDMI speed, and the adapter is just to change the ports..correct me if im wrong XD
I did it and still doesn’t have a display
Hi!, but it's possible to connect all outputs? 4 of them??? at the same time. 🤔🤔🤔
Yes. I use 3 monitors for example and could connect another. Wait do you mean all to one monitor? Fun but useless :D
@@SoSoTechTube I mean different info for each 4 monitors 😅
😀 yeah that should be no problem .

Welp... this explains 10000000000000000000% why the hdmi to display port cord does not work for adding a second monitor to my laptop.

Does this work with laptops
I don’t understand… I have plugged my HDMI and my display plug into every freaking orifice on this computer and the screen is still black.
Sounds like the monitor perhaps requires manual configuration via on screen display what input it should use.

I have a rusted HDMI port in my GPU and its first time to put my GPU in my new motherboard, can I use the the display port on my GPU in my new motherboard? So that I can get into bios?

Hey! What about PS5?
I just got DisplayPort to HDMI cord
Will this provide 75hz or 144hz over the adapter or cable ?
a recent HDMI cable can provide up to a maximum of 144hz, although the older versions can't reach that high. A displayport cable can provide up to 165hz
nice thanks this helped me im a noob haha
Should i connect dp to mother board or gpu
gpu
can you connect a graphics card to a laptop via hdmi
I'm guessing you mean to make the laptop use the pc's gfx card to get better performance. No. Hdmi signals are already visual information.
You can send the image from apc to a laptop if the laptop has a capture card though
so uh hwo about if you use a thinderbolt to hdmi connector?
