- After completing a one-day test at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in California, MotoAmerica President and three-time 500cc World Champion Wayne Rainey headed to Japan where he rode a motorcycle again - this time in front of a huge crowd of Japanese race fans at the Suzuka Circuit, the site of one of his four GP victories in his final season of racing in 1993.
This MotoGP-produced video shows Rainey’s memorable ride in front of his Japanese fans along with fellow American World Champions Kenny Roberts and Eddie Lawson - 26 years after Rainey’s career ended with his crash in the Italian Grand Prix at Misano on September 5, 1993.

Both legendary Riders
This shit will make even the toughest guy cry
yeah man it did for me.
Me 2....... I seeing him on that bike!
I did before the video started.
Maybe, if you're gay.
This is fabulous news. In 1993 I was watching the Italian 500cc GP live on TV at my parents place in Canberra, Australia on a Sunday night when Wayne Rainey crashed. He seemed unstoppable at the time. Three time world champ. An awesome racer. The crash didn't look too bad at the time. I'd seen worse. A few days later the news came through about a potential paralysis. Devastating news. This was back when the bikes were completely analogue, 500cc two-stroke weapons. They required both bravery and skill to ride quickly. They were very unforgiving.
Nobody can give Wayne the use of his legs again but it's lovely to see him riding a bike around Suzuka. It's even better to see how much fun he had riding it. 😊
It was a long time ago. I thought it happened at the USA GP circuit.
I was seeing that gp live but I live just 5km from Misano circuit... When the crash happened I was not much worried but after a few minuets , because some extra info that was going out from the local sport journalist , it became evident that the matter was really really serious. I was shocked , and rest shocked for many days. I remember I had an autograph by him (and Eddie , Kevin , Mick) some years before when was so easy to go in the paddock in Misano. Great days. Now it's impossible. (BTW , rip NH-69 , because I sometimes go on those roads around Simoncelli racetrack)
"Nobody can give Wayne the use of his legs again". Maybe someday doctors will be able to fix this.
@@gwc1410 They already have the technology today, paralyzed people are able to walk again just a matter of years to improve and commercialize it. ReWalk Robotics Ltd. (RWLK) and Ekso Bionic's exoskeleton.
ps , back in 1993 I sent Wayne a get well card from Malaysia and prayed that he'll walk again ..... and it looks like it is going to happen !
This is the greatest thing I have seen all year
Great to see Wayne back on a bike. Have great memories of watching him race against Schwantz, Lawson, Gardner, Doohan. The best of times in GP racing on the 500 2 strokes. Thanks.
Yep
Agreed 👍
Lengends. Won't see the likes of them again
Yes..♥️
That's Eddie Lawson on that Rothman's Honda guy with the white hair.
Bless all the engineers who helped Wayne. Hats off to Kenny for his great words. Love you Wayne. Mr.Consistant was and will always be an inspiration.
the public demands a Rainey replica R1 livery !!!
Won't happen, but holy shit it looks awesome
Facebook
Thats a great idea .
Do it yourself!
I'd buy it and if not save 1000 photos of it on my phone lol
He deserves another ride any time he wants one. Go get em Wayne
Am I embarrassed that I cried watching this....hell no way!! God bless this legend and sincere thank you for the people that made this happen. Ireland sends love & blessings! Merry Christmas!!
Happy to see Wayne back riding on a Yamaha. A Dream come true!
So glad about Wayne, very emotional! All the best from Belgrade Serbia
Hard not to tear up watching that. I grew up idolizing those guys...Rainey...Roberts...Lawson....the greats of 500GP. Seeing Wayne and Kenny reaching back and reliving their great championship years...man, what a great vid.
I couldn’t stop crying watching these legends riding again....
*Well done Wayne, great to see you do this, good wishes from the UK*
Legend , one of the greatest bike racers of all time , respect
great to see him ride again!!
I think Wayne should do a lap of honor in 2020 with other riders he competed with during his career before the main race at Moto America or Moto gp events that would be awesome.
Anything Wayne Rainy is AWESOME!!!!
He is Mr. AWESOME!
Love you Wayne!
That's a cool idea : D
Cool
Cheers to Wayne Rainey, Kenny Roberts, and Eddie Lawson. It was a great time when they raced.
Thanks for making me cry Wayne!
What a legend he was, and is, words aren't really enough to sum up what it meant to see him on a bike again.
Brilliant brilliant brilliant nothing can describe this guy I mean completely brilliant
Just saw this, as a rider of 35 or so years, am wiping away the tears. Absolutely magical!!!
Wayne Rainey you are a Champion of life not just on the motorcycle.
God bless you Wayne Rainey! Best thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Really got no words ....i'm just in awe of this man
I can't control my tears...
That's what champs are made of guts and heart
Great moment in time for a great champion.
I grew up worshiping these two guys on two wheels, even though I was never a racer ; I'm 63. But I've been riding since I was 22. And Kenny, Wayne, and Mick Doohan were KINGS.
Watching Wayne ride again.....WOW! And alot of tears. For what he's gone thru, the freaky nature of shit. And Life/Opportunities lost......
But back in the saddle again, Wayne had me crying.
Yeah man. Those 500cc 2-strokes were just wicked. Real men raced those and they were most definitely true kings of the sport. Balls of steel and skill to match. A lot of the younger riders and racers today I don't think even realize just how dangerous it really was back then. An era that will never be seen again.
Brings back the good old days Wayne, I truly miss them!!!
What a great day for Wayne a true champion 🏆🏆🏆
What an inspirational dude..
The grin says it all, makes me smile. Well done people, great tribute and effort and WELL deserved for a great champion.
Absolutely nothing can stop your passion, mr. Rainey, sir.
Wayne, watching you ride again with that speed down the straight, and Kenny feeling so proud of you, has helped erase that crash in Misano back in 93' from my memory. Welcome home Wayne, welcome home.
Hell yeah!!!
The king and the kid!!!
I still remember the 5th September 93. I was a kid but my heart was broken. I glad to see you back on a Yamaha with the same colors. You are an inspiration for many people. Keep up like this Wayne🏁🏁🏁 💪💪💪💪✌️✌️✌️
Thank you Wayne for all the great battles and moments!
So good to see Wayne riding again, amazing :-)
Go Wayne go. Nice to see you guys legends of GP ridning together. 😊

A great ensemble of American motorcycle road racers, during an era when we dominated road racing. Fantastic to see all the greats ride again.
Great to see these guys riding, great stuff Wayne and lets not forget Tadi also. Heart warming 😍
Wayne Rainey is a class act.
Legend, great to see Wayne on a bike again, such a positive outlook on life.👍
Amazing to see this video, I watched in horror when Wayne had his accident and when it was announced he was paralyzed from it my world turned upside down, he was just an amazing racer, the shows he put on from when I watched him at Donnington Park racing superbikes to the racing against Shwantz will never be repeated. So glad he has some buzz back in his life, way to go Wayne
Brought a tear to my eye. Awesome. Just awesome.
How awesome! His era was a little before my time but always respect the legends of the sport. This gave me chills : D
Omg!! this got me so emotional. Never doubt the power of a man’s will.
I still remember him as the "new guy" on the Kawasaki team with champ Eddie Lawson at Sears point in 1982. He was surprisingly polite and friendly.
Great great thing to see him riding again. Wayne is a legend... always.
The "test ride" lifted my spirits when I watched it, this one, well, it reaffirmed my faith and then some. So very awesome! Btw - when the King gets emotional, you know something big is going on. Fantastic!! Thank you!!
Fantastic 👍 loved you then, love you now. Watching you ride brought back so many wonderful memories of you dicing with all the greats of the time. It was my favourite era especially when Mick Doohan dominated. Yes I'm an Aussie lol...... God bless you CHAMP, may you have many more awesome days on a bike in the future!..…......... FULL NOISE

As a 54yo Aussie man, it brought tears to see one of the greats riding again.
It is amazing how much Waynes accident upset many of us and was never forgotten, as Kenny said it was an emotion that didn't expect to feel until watched this.
Well done to everyone that made this happen.
How can anyone put thumbs down too this video????? Shame on you all Well done to anyone racing.
Wayne was king of a grid full of kings! He would of won way more than 3 championships!
What an amazing man, great talent, a total inspiration and influence in my younger years watching motorbike racing.
He can hold his head up high again. Great one Wayne...
Freaking awesome!
Very emotional video! I’m from a town in Spain very close where Rainey did spend summer time in the past. I saw him after his crash. Has been unbelievable watching him again in his Yamaha riding his bike in Suzuka! Very happy for him to see him feeling of riding his 500cc! 👍🏻
Thumbnail looks like a game, anyway..sooo happy for Wayne😊😊
All that's missing is kevin schwantz on the lucky strike suzuki. Love the retro paint jobs 🤘🏍
Quelles émotions il a dû ressentir !!! Content pour lui 😍
Great pilot and a very Brave man with a capital “B”. Congrats and thank you Wayne and the whole team for putting this together. Thank you for all the joy and happiness now and in the amazing 80 and 90's wins and championships.
Everytime I see Wayne, I want to try something that someone told me I wouldn't be able to do!
Champion always!!!
Really wish there were more moments like this! Really great to see!
My favorite motorsports moment from 2019 right here! Thanks for sharing MotoAmerica.
Legends
This is a blessing to all disabled riders all over the world, thank you Wayne for giving every-unable rider a vision to ride again. Yamaha has created the first hand driven motorcycle in the world. Thanks to everyone involved in this amazing project.
I saw him race when I was younger. glad to see him ride again.
Remember, men who ride two wheels, are the men who are made of steel. Be fast, or be last.
Cheering and tearing at the same time, WOW!
Congratulations, Mr. Rainey. What a triumph! I watched the first ride video and now this. Incredible. This had to be huge for you; especially this place. Off the charts cool that you get to ride this place again. Notice I didn't say "GOT" to ride - you can do it again! Anywhere. Like, oh I dunno, Laguna! The choice is yours. And how cool is that?!? Happy holidays, to you, Wayne, and to all.
Absolutely fabulous...!!!
Always thought Wayne was a bit robotic and dull- because he was always winning. Watching the accident I just wanted to cry for him. I love this video and am old enough to realise how good he was. God bless
Great video! Wish I could smash the like button a 100 times
This was beautiful! Thanks for posting!
I am very happy to see Rainey riding a bike again! At my teen age years he was my bike racing idol! I am happy on this day, when i see a smile on his face, to ride again a bike. Great to see you on a bike champ! God bless! 🙂🙏
