- The three-time World Champion rode his 500cc title winning Yamaha YZR500 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the first time in 30 years, after a crash in Misano left him without feeling from the chest down. Remarkable.

This is actually very emotional. Happy for him and hopefully he can do this more regularly.
Watching Rainey, Doohan, Schwantz, Gardner was the best.
This was so good to see
I agree. He wanted a few more laps.

Think how many hours that guy spent on a race bike
I wouldn’t have. Let him ride alone
As a 60+ year old 500cc fan this brought a tear to the eye…I was watching that dreaded race in 93 which ended Wayne’s career and to see him on that bike, riding again,,…,,just wow!! Another tear…well done Champ and to all that made it happen…Well done
Yup nothing seemed to be that bad when he fell.
My first thought was "he'll be up in a sec" but never did.
Great for him to get the chance to ride again though...
@bacorable Yes. he's a human with a heart.
WATCHED IT LIVE TOO
SHATTERED WHEN IT HAPPENED
GOOD TO SEE HIM DOING WHAT HE LOVED
@bacorable yes.
As a 50 year old, myself and my mate got into bikes watching passionately these guys race these incredible bikes.. Seeing Wayne ride this bike again is emotional..I can’t imagine what it feels like for him…. Incidentally, my name is Wayne, and my best mate was also called Wayne.. so, we literally would think we were ‘Rainey & Gardner’ when we rode together.. Special times.
Love it
@@adrienmarchetti1303 👍😎
I had a Yamaha RD500LC to make it even more realistic being, Roberts/Rainey/Gardner.
Your story gave me goosebumps. I was right into it all back then too.
I loved watching these guys fighting it out on the track as a teenager. Awesome to see him back on the bike.
This got me tearing up seeing him on that bike again.
Nice to know I'm not alone.👍
É isso mesmo...

@@bacorable Everybody's "literally crying"🥺😢😭
As someone (21 years old) who was born into wheelchair and was "thrown" into motorcycles thanks to my dad, this brought tears to my eyes thinking how amazing it must've felt. Huge respect for him and people behind this whole project.
Literally teared up watching Wayne back on a bike, phenomenal!
@bacorable It's okay for men to get emotional. Don't be a prat about it.
@@Wally-H Please don't cry
@@dr.jillalicecooper2587 I didn't. Lee Curtis said he did. Try reading the posts properly before making dumb comments.
Absolute legend... true gladiator... I still remember watching his last race, leading the race and the championship. I was 15 and had been a fan since I was 9 when I first saw him fighting with Schwantz at the TransAtlantic Trophy meeting at Brands Hatch in 1987.
If it hadn’t been for that accident he would’ve won the 1993 championship without a doubt.
To see him ride yesterday and then get to talk to the man himself was amazing
Yes Scott I was watching this race too. So it was era of swantz ,Rainey and Doohnan I guess.
Must have been an amazing feeling for Wayne and his family friends helping out .what a riding god.
@@stevemcgowan3017 Me2, I grew up watching those 3 legends battle hard with each other.
54 years old big fan of these bikes back in the day…thanks for the memories Wayne
Almost brings tears to my eyes seeing Wayne having such a joyful ride. He is an inspiration!
Huge respect, a powerful moment for me and everyone to witness. If i only had 10% of his courage i would 100% a better man.
Really decent Guy Wayne Rainey . Not bitter at all. Tough break 2 become disabled in his prime .
An inspirational youtube clip 4 many folk out there .
Huge respect 4 Wayne .
Blessings 2U Champ 🏆 🙏
My dad told me all about Wayne before his accident and I saw lots of clips and Wayne is the best 500cc champ in the world god bless him! ❤️❤️
And he is mate,the best
Even in '92, "Quick Mick" Doohan was right on his tails, finishing only 4 points behind Rainey, but with 3 races less driven because of his crash before the dutch TT. Had he not crashed, he would certainly have won the '92 championship. Before his accident, he was more or less destroying the competition!
And the numbers speak for themselves: Rainey: 24 wins Vs. Doohan: 54 wins.
In '97, Doohan won 12 races out of 15, with 2 #2's and 1 Ret. Rainey only managed to win 7 races in one season.
I have a lot of respect for Rainey, but if we have to look at it objectively, noone, not even Doohan, beats Giacomo Agostini...
He was my hero! Great to see him back on his bike! What a Champion!
I cried for him when he had the accident; and I cry now for the thrill of seeing him again on the bike ... Great Wayne !!
This brought a tear to my eye. I was hurt on a bike back in 2008, no where near as bad as Wayne, but left me with a paralyzed left leg. I miss it all the time. Every summer when I see everyone getting there bikes out, I always think, "Is this the year I'll get another?". I haven't yet, but maybe someday.
@bacorable Yeah it really did. I'm someone who was also hurt really bad on a motorcycle. It has been 14 years and I have never gotten back on one. But I miss it and think about it all the time, especially in the summer time. I can only imagine the joy at being able to ride again.
@bacorable I agree. I was t-boned by a car while I was sitting at a stop sign. Broke 38 bones, left me half blind and partially paralyzed. Not a good day for sure.
I was fortunate enough to be at Goodwood to witness this which was fantastic experience
This is brutal... Massive respect
This was emotional. They were the golden years and to see him be able to ride again, to feel the pull of the two stroke 500 is a wonderful thing to watch.
Amazing to see. What a legend! I want Yamaha to take Wayne and his bike on a tour with the MotoGP circus and let everyone enjoy seeing their hero enjoy himself at every track back on two wheels. The man is a phenomenon!
Still the best I have ever seen, his ability to go fast in early laps on cold tyres and blow everyone away was sensational. Could have easily added to his 3 world championships!
That little laugh as he came to a stop ❤️
Happy tears all round 🥲
Wow. That had me choked up. These guys were riding the most wild machines. An incredible era.
Who followed the GP, impossible not to let out a smile similar to Wayne's when he stops the bike with the team... A smile and a tear ❤️.... 👏🏽
One of the greatest moto rides I have ever seen...it is great Wayne has the kind of friends who can pull this off.
Very cool. As a 56 year old motorcycle rider I feel so lucky to have survived my 20's . I have crashed very bad and was able to walk away several times.
30 years since he rode the ‘92 bike - 29 years since his accident in ‘93 at Misano - great to see this - saw a docu clip on him doing an initial test ride on another bike - Great job all round
It amazing to see him back on the bike after 30 years since the accident. As one would say "The impossible task to prove everyone wrong is that getting back on the bike and showing everyone that he still got it to this day" This made my day
I remember that cataclismic day... I couldn't believe it. Although I'm a Honda man at heart - and always cheered for Mick Doohan - I always admired Wayne for his down-to-earth attitude and results.
I remember seeing this live, we are the same age. Very emotional for us older guys.
Tears in my eyes watching this legend ride again
What a legend , I remember those Wayne Rainey years , he. Was so bloody quick.
Brought tears to my eyes....awesome...his framed poster has been hanging in my garage since 95...of that bike
must of taken some big balls to get back on that bike in that condition, well done!
Trusting that funky Gearbox and Clutch to be correct and not fall over sideways..
He had good guys to catch him though,
He won world championship's on the most temperamental unforgiving GP bikes ever made. No electronic rider aids on those things, just raw horsepower
He was born with cajones the size of watermelons
I bet if they gave him the opportunity he could still get it moving fast enough to put us mere mortals to shame
@@TheTonySRich Couldn't have said it better myself.
@@TheTonySRich absolutely
That actually brought tears to my eyes. Almost every rider in the world, that has been injured, or told they could not ride again, feel the pain of not being able to "throw a leg" again. The fact that Wayne was able to do it again, after a serious injury, and years away.. For us and him.. If the rest of us just close our eyes and imagine, is like a stairway to heaven.
One of the greatest men to ever ride 500cc GP bike to watch Wayne ride again was very emotional having watched Wayne race back the in day and see just how smooth he was on the bike.
So unfair what life gave to this valiant motorcycle pilot...
I feel very happy about the fact he was able to ride again!
Hopefully people like him will have a cure anytime soon.
He for sure was one of the best back in that time, when crazy powerful two strokes rulled the motorcycle world!
Only a few pilots today have what it takes to master such beasts on the same level they used to do back in those very special days...
I know what I'm talking about!
Greetings from Brazil.
I’m crying for those years never get back. The most beautiful years, last decades of 20th century, also for Motorsport
I can only imagine all of the memories that must of flooded his mind when he got to ride again.
My hero got run with his machine again!…I"m sooooo happy! WayneRainey is my etarnal hero. from JAPAN
The word Hero gets used a lot these days, but this guy 'Wayne Rainey' is & has always been #1 to me!
Brilliant but sad at the how cruel life can be at times, massive respect for doing this Wayne legend 👍👍👍👍
Cruel or kind? His Son got to keep his Dad, hid wife got to keep her husband and he kept living to fight another day and do the goodwood hill climb.
Having suffered a broken back in 6 places in a motorbike off - i was just happy to survive. Surgeon told me id never walk again without a stick. I accepted that, but said…”ok, so what can i do to limit that?” - started intense physio a day after my 9hr op. Dropped all pain killers and did it. Today i have some limiting factors, however I can run and walk without a stick…
In the face of adversity - we can do incredible things, however, had i of been paralysed (my spinal cord was compressed) - id of accepted it - if it meant still living. Good on this chap!
@@164DiecastVideos thats incredible man
Yes Rainey, Dreams do Come True.. ❤️❤️
Leaves Derby County and gets straight back on a bike. Dreams do come true 😍
So great to see Wayne do this.
I am choked up.
What a legend.
That's the first time i have shed tears in years, he got balls , he always had , god bless
Fantastic to see Wayne back out on that bike. Truly historic 😎👍🏁
So good to see, and experience, the positivity this guy exudes. There's NEVER a good reason to give up! I'm emotional.
Manly tears were shed....relationship between a man and his machine is something else....
Finally something positive in this world. I could feel his joy.
so emotional, simply amazing,
Seeing his happy face at the end.. A legend
🥲 I was 8 when he crashed at Misano, and I couldn’t believe he got hurt so bad. He was my favourite rider. It is very emotional to see him ride again. He took this big obstacle in his life in his stride, never once moaning about it. True champ.
I’m not sure people understand how ferocious these 500cc two-stroke GP bikes were… what a great moment to capture! Respect.
Absolute beasts of things no electronic aids on those monsters
Para mí es el mejor piloto de la historia moderna del motociclismo, no haber podido disfrutar más de él en los circuitos ha sido muy doloroso, verle encima de su Yamaha ha sido toda una alegría, grande Rainey!!!
Absolute respect for the great Wayne Rainey. Well done for getting back into the saddle.
Literally brought tears to my eyes, so inspiring ❤️
Look in his eyes when he come from the track drive and stop the bike,he open the helmet and his Look are so full of great emotions,a ride with a Sport bike,is so unbelivebel fantastic that some people dream every night from a good ride in freedom! Thanks that great man see so happy, very good job from his friends and familie! Sorry for my bad english best wish Reiner from Germany
There are tears in this old man's eyes. Brilliant.
What a guy !!! Really special rider. Goosebumps all over.
As a 50yr old big fan of Waynes this made me feel sad an happy at the same time I was watching the race when Wayne had his accident this was awesome to see him ride again best wishes the to Rainey family.🤘🤘
As a Motorcycle Enthusiast & Rider with a Broken Back myself, This Brought Joy to my Eyes. Good on him for doing this.
What a generous and sensitive thing for Yamaha to do this for him. Hats off.
Goat ! Uno dei più grandi piloti di tutti i tempi ! ❤️
It's takes a brave soul to accept his situation. It takes someone extra special to get back on it. Much love from the UK ❤️
Wow! how emotional was watching that? Fabulous to see Wayne and his son together when got back on his GP500 for the 1st time
since his Crash
Vedere questo video mi ha provocato un'emozione fortissima, è bello rivedere Wayne di nuovo in sella alla sua moto, avrei voluto tanto essere lì per capire l'emozione che ha provato. I love this
was very happy to live in the hills by Laguna Seca from "89 until '02. Made it to a lot of events there, Moto, Indycar, Historics, got to see Rainey vs Schwantz plus others. Those memories still make the heart race. Wayne's mental fortitude is just amazing. A car pulled out in front of my Yamaha 650 in 1977. Paralyzed from the waist down for 3 days. Thought doctors were lying to me. I was 20 years old. Remember how hopeless it all felt. Got everything back and still ride. So inspiring to see Wayne back in the saddle.
Great to see Wayne on the bike again. I remember watching the race when Wayne had his accident
I was not fortunate enough to ever c Wayne race, live. Only seen him in bits and pieces of stock footage.
I never saw a televised motorcycle road race until 1997 when I traveled to England.
Then, in 1998 my cable company began broadcasting SPEEDVISION. At 31 yrs old my motorcycle road racing thirst finally came to fruition. Every week my VCR was set to record MotoGP, WSBK and the AMA races. Absolute bliss.
Of note, at that time I was introduced to the WSBK announce team of Charlie Cox, Steve Parrish and Suzi Perry. That looks to b Suzi interviewing Wayne. It’s nice to c/hear her again.
That 2000 WSBK race at Imola (race 2) - next to watching Rossi incur a 10-second penalty at Phillip Island in 2003 and still win the race - was the best I’ve ever seen.
What a legend. I was riding a ‘93 GSXR600, through the mid to late 90’s, and these guys were gods, in my eyes. Truly special, and quite emotional, seeing him climb that hill. 🙌
Wayne Rainey was so smooth it was a pleasure to watch.
I remember watching him race on TV when I was young fella with my Dad. My Dad and I just have the most respect for him. Wayne has always been a super nice guy and his riding talent was unbelievable.
What a true legend of the sport he is .Well done Wayne .
In true Wayne Rainey never give up fashion. I remember staying up into the early hours of a Monday morning watching Wayne race with the likes of Kevin Schwantz. Then with hardly any sleep busting to get to work and talk with my mates about how Wayne had gone in that race. What a legend I am so happy for him. This really brought tears to my eyes!
Beautiful moment a great champion rides again.
It was emotional to see Wayne back on a 500Gp bike…it brought back great memories of the Rainey Schwantz era. Respect!!!
Thanks to Yamaha and all the teams who still support and taking care of Rainy
met wayne before and after his wreck at laguna seca raceway. he was my inspiration wen i raced 125gp's. the new generation will never kno wat its like to ride a motogp 2-stroke. hearing wayne wick up the throttle into 1st gear told me he still has it. absolute legend
50+ year old fan credit to an awesome rider a gentleman of the sport emotional pleased for him god bless 🏴👍🏻👏👏👏
Wow, amazing achievement by Wayne and his crew. So great he can enjoy riding his bike again!
What a thrill for Wayne. Loved watching him race back in the day. A hero. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
God I love this man. My all time favorite 500cc GP racer. I couldn't believe it when Wayne was injured in 1993. So cool to see him back on that beautiful 500cc Yamaha. 👍
I saw his career ending crash on TV all those years ago and I feel so elated to se Wayne Rainey ride again. To say I had a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat would not be a lie.
Absolutely awesome to see Wayne on a bike again, i,m not emotional but my eyes welled up with tears on this one whilst watching it. Very brave Wayne well done.
I cried, Wayne Rainey was my sister's favorite pilot. He was a teammate to my favorite pilot Eddie Lawson. I loved watching these guys move right up the ranks. I myself find it hard to walk without my cane. A long time rider myself I can relate. Covid took my sister last year, she would have loved to see this. Somehow I think she might
Couldn't imagine the emotions... leading up to it, doing it and then processing it afterwards... his thoughts must have been all over the place... I'm in tears just watching this...
This bike is dedicated to him. Legend. Love from Malaysia
huge respect, what a legend
For a champion such as this man, it must have been like flying... absolutely had to have been a sense of pure freedom. A real privilege to watch this.
Motorcycling does not get enough love. It is soooo much more pure and exciting than other other Motorsport.
This is what CZcams was made for.
Awesome videos of Awesome People!
Big respect!
Rainey/Swantz 500 era bikes are the Goats! 🐐
I knew he could do it. Well done champ.!!!
A true legend.!!
Wayne Rainey.
The memories came flooding back from watching him when he raced. Not many things make me tear up but this surely did.
Look how good he looks. Never lost the warrior spirit.
These were the years I watched and loved the 500s. Very emotional watching that.
Still the only man to ever make me cry! Lol…I remember watching him race a Kawasaki at Sears point in the early 80’s, and his entire career afterwards. thanks for the memories Wayne.
The word legend is used to much but in this case there is no other way to describe this man total respect
Wayne was more than a legend. After his accident I couldn’t watch the racing for 2 years.
Big important moment for WR and the sport 🙏
Hi, I can say that this was a great feeling and a boost to Wayne's morality. I had a motorbike accident in 2008 and lost my right arm. My friends got me a scooter, modified it so I could ride again with one arm. The trill was unbelievable, riding again after more that 10yrs. This was on a 125cc scooter, so I can imagine Wayne riding his old faithful bike. Great work Wayne and all the gang!
Congratulations for riding again
