      I enjoy the “walk up and measure” method without a CAD model, but the CAD programming is definitely faster. Thanks for your feedback!

    PiWeb graphed the flatness for you. In the PiWeb Report select Replace Protocol Row Templates (icon kind of looks like a gear) along the top and select the detailed view in the new window. A cool thing about the PiWeb Flatness plot is if you left click it it will open in a single sheet view which is much larger. If you hold down Control on the keyboard and pick a point with the left mouse button it will give the deviation of that particular point.

    I've used loads and loads of different metrology software over my career. Mainly with laser trackers and PC-Dmis, but after going through the calypso basic class, these videos of yours have been a great help in shoring up my understanding in how Calypso prefers to work! I don't know if you have access to a machine with the RDS on it, but it would be great to have those angle changes explained with your expertise!

    • @RDeanOdell
      @RDeanOdell  Před rokem +1

      The manual alignment is necessary to tell the machine where the part is. It’s important to get that early in the programming, especially if you want to combine CAD with picking up features with the probe.

    Question, will the size of my ruby in comparison to the size of the hole I’m measuring effect results? My ruby is .118 and my holes are about .150. No matter how slow I run the speed it still has to measure twice and gets pretty crazy numbers at times.

      check the R (radius) value in the stylus manager.. im pretty sure calypso figures out the dimensions on its own it just refrences the master probe.. you should be able to just requalify the probe your using then double check the probes radius in the stylus manager/administrator whatever its called. it under the cmm tab next to characteristics and features tabs

    I have a question. We have a Contura and I am just learning calypso. Your videos have been really helpful. We are using a CAD model. But our nominals are not matching what it says on the print. Should we be changing the nominals? I know you did when you just picked up a part with no model. How should I be approaching this?

    • @RDeanOdell
      @RDeanOdell  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi, it’s possible the cad model doesn’t match the drawing. The alignment you use will also change the nominals, the alignment needs to match the origin in cad to make everything the same. If it’s inconvenient for the base alignment, you could use a secondary alignment.

    I just seen a job opening at work (medical devices…CNC shop)…is this a job I need a degree for? Or can it be learned? (I used to program a CNC plasma machine at my dads welding shop…).

    • @RDeanOdell
      @RDeanOdell  Před rokem +1

      Hi, you don’t necessarily need a degree to be a CNC machinist, but you will need several skills that are obtained by experience, a formal apprenticeship, or a degree program.
      Check out my colleague’s channel to get an idea of the programming knowledge required:

      I am a machinist 2 right now…I just wasn’t sure if it would be something that was learnable by just having someone teach it at work or if I needed schooling for the programming part!
      (The job opening was for a CMM programmer)
      Thanks for the response. I’ll be watching a lot more of these videos!!

    What does a strategy mean?
    Also what is a chamf?
    Edit:
    I think i now understand that a strategy is how youre going to probe the part to make sure its geometry is as you expected it to be.

    • @RDeanOdell
      @RDeanOdell  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi, yes a strategy is just the instructions for how the probe with measure each feature. I think you mean chamfer? It's possible the automatic captions messed that up.
