    Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly test vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, you'll see! Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. Why are you still reading this, you should be watching the video. With headphones! Hah, had to sneak that in there one more time. Later!

    My sis' daily is a Jeep Renegade and the times I've had to drive it I've been very impressed by the interior and pep it has, driving dynamics are what I'm used to or perfer but they seem very solid for a commuter car. Other complaints i or her have would be the questionable at times reliability the Renegades seem to have (she's on her second due to an accident) Jeeps to me at least seem to be excellent suvs with competent handling and nicely appointed interiors.

      John Thomas do you still like it? I know you only posted this a short time ago but, I’m really considering getting one and like to know. So many mixed things on line I’ve seen about them but, I know people are really critical of cars.

    • @JohnThomasii
      @JohnThomasii Před 6 lety

      Sorry this took me so long to get back to you. We did purchase it, the Sport version of the Compass with the winter package (heated seats, steering wheel, and auto anti-ice feature for the windows. All black w/ black & tan interior. I found a TON of accessories on websites like WISH.com if you want to accentuate the interior or “chrome" it out. One of the consistent negative or complaints about the Compass is its initial power and speed. I'd agree with those assessments- you won't win any "rabbit starts" staring from a stopped position. That being said, I found no problem accelerating from a stopped position or merging onto faster traffic. At higher speeds, it was quiet & comfortable-m I got it up to 120 on a local interstate Sunday AM before slowing it down. I took it up an unmarked, unpaved, rough mountain road. It did well. No complaints from the 4 wheel drive features. I even used the 4 wheel drive “mud” feature and it performed well. The brakes are a bit "grabby", if that makes sense, but I got used to that as well. I only have 2 issues with the Compass. Number 1 is the engine’s fuel saving stop/start feature (which is standard on all-wheel-drive models with the nine-speed) shuts the engine down when stopped at a light then restarts the engine when you lift your foot off of the brake to give it gas. It seems that when this is engaged, the transmission trips over itself fumbling for first or second gear. This translates into a pregnant pause when, say, you’re pressing the gas. There is an option to disable it at first, but it has to be disabled each time you initially crank it up to travel after being parked. Secondly, and it’s a minor thing, is that the Compass in shapes looks like EVERY other crossover SUV out there- from the Fords to Toyota’s to the Honda’s and ALL the other crossover vehicles. To me, anyway. Let me know if you get it and your thoughts.

    • @horsegirl07
      @horsegirl07 Před 6 lety

      John Thomas thank you for replying!! Makes complete sense to me. I want to go test drive one for sure. My friend has that start/stop of the engine and I’m noticing so many cats with it now. It would probably annoy me to the point of turning it off every time lol! Yea I always see people complain about the pick up from a stop but, I’m not racing anyone so I think it will be ok lol.
      See I think it actually looks different from the others, I really like the look of it. I like my fords but I don’t care for the escape. Very similar in size though!
      Totally get what you mean by grabby breaks lol my moms edge has that so it’s kind of funny driving it until I get used to it, haha. Thank you so much again!!

    • @mpsangha
      @mpsangha Před 6 lety

      The fwd model with the Aisin 6 speed chirps its tires off the line and the stop/start has no problem with engaging straight into first gear after turning the engine on. We have a 2018 Latitude FWD for my mother, and it's pretty zippy, especially around town. Never thought we needed the AWD because we never go off the pavement or plan to off-road. Drove it in 8+ inch Michigan winter storms last year and the fwd had no issue in getting around or in controlling around turns or when stopping. I think the 9 speed combo with AWD really bogs down the compass... As I've seen complaints from many owners and reviewers. As well as the start stop feature not being so smooth with the 9 speed... Car and driver did a review of the FWD compass and declared the 6 speed Aisin a better overall transmission than the 9 speed.

    • @mpsangha
      @mpsangha Před 6 lety

      I also agree with the grabby brakes... Hate it, used to it by now but still hate it. I like there to be a little dead brake travel initially before the brakes actually engage like on most vehicles... Gives a more smooth and refined feeling when coming to a stop.

    I am already sold on the new Compass and like nearly everything . Of course more power would be nice and FCA may take care of that with a turbo option for 19 or 20 . The new Cherokee offers a new 2.0 turbo with 270 hp. That would make the Compass really fun . As for the review ...nice job and I appreciated the long ride along to see the smoothness and noise level. I am looking at the Limited as my next vehicle . I wish it offered that nice looking tan interior . Nothing but all black or a mix of black and white.....dumb . Interiors should be tan or gray to keep down heat and not show every speck of dirt .

  • @jeffmorse645
    @jeffmorse645 Před rokem

    This is probably the best review I've seen on the Compass. I've been watching and reading every review I can find since its redesign in 2017/2018. Car and Driver review both the FWD and AWD versions back in 2018 and they said the six speed auto in the FWD is much smoother in operation (hunts around much less) and its actually a half second faster 0-60 vs. the nine speed in the AWD version. I live in a mild climate - never see snow - so I'm looking for a leftover 2022 FWD Latitude. They have a big rebate on them in California - $4,000, plus dealers are discounting heavily on top of that. Might be a good commuter car.

    For anyone reading this - All Jeep Compass models available in the world are made in India,Brazil,China,Mexico and exported. The Indian plant manufactures mainly the 4x4 Sport variant.

    • @AmanKumar-lm1ok
      @AmanKumar-lm1ok Před 6 lety

      You are getting it wrong. The 4 countries together ship it. But the chassis,engine and seats are exported from India to Brazil (for the sport) because there are many sources present in brazil (or even USA) that would be expensive to ship to india in order to install it in the car.

    • @n_u001

      nouse use I never said the whole vehicle is manufactured in India. Have you watched Discovery channel? They feature a documentary on cars. Not all companies (like bmw,audi) assemble the cars at one place. Some companies (like jeep) ship some of the parts that are easily available in india (low price etc) to their factories overseas.
      I don't know how more clearer can I be....

It’s obvious you can’t get over it by just how many channels you’ve been on trying to trash this car over something you were just too stupid to figure out. It took a quick google search to find out plenty of car tire companies make off road tires for it. Either get better at using the internet or find a real substantive issue you have with this car, because yours you’ve commented on multiple channels is easily debunked with a quick google search.
