    ASICS SUPERBLAST 2 REVIEW - BEST MAX CUSHION DISTANCE RUNNING SHOE? - MUST HAVE UPDATE? - EDDBUD
    An initial review of the new ASICS SUPERBLAST 2, an update to the super shoe of the last 2 years.
    Over 40mm of foam here with a midsole update, a new upper material and improved outsole.
    This is a shoe sent to me from ASICS for review, but they are not paying me to making this video nor will they be watching my video or vetting my views before my valued viewers get to see it.
    I comment on the upper, midsole and outsole after my initial runs.

    I had to buy a new microwave oven the other day because my old one had served me well over a decade ago. My new Panasonic microwave costs less than my new pair of Superblast 2 shoes. It's a great shoe, just expensive, and Asics are doing a Nike with it by releasing limited quantities to keep the demand high and as a consequence the price high. Thanks for the review Edd.👍

    Superblast V1 was the best non plated trainer I’ve ever used, 500 miles on it.

    My 2 earth credits. 15:01
    Got mine last Monday and 80km deep.
    Bit clunky at 5min/km and slower, prefer Nimbus for that. Definitely not as propulsive/efficient as a plated shoe for tempo and above, but feels really nice and forgiving up to tempo. Beyond that pace, it was OK, wasn't overly keen, but much more forgiving than keener shoes, which are much less keen at Z2. Early days, but seem perfect for 15+ km runs which include efforts at or above tempo, or long progressives.
    Z2 runs of any distance, I'll stay with Nimbus, and if I didn't go longer than 15/20km, then NB covers everything else outside of a dedicated fast shoe.
    Could not justify these if I rarely ran more than 15kms.
    Midfoot of the upper is not wide, lockdown not as good as Nimbus or NB (but didn't need heel lock). Forefoot upper not super secure, feels like there's either too much volume, or it's not structured enough - It's my biggest concern.
    Definitely a niche shoe, but it's a niche you spend a lot of time at effort in if the niche applies.
    Pretty much this, but with some flavour of Zoom-X, would be my dream training shoe.

    I received my SB v2 yesterday. For me, in a US size 9.5 the weight is left 250.8g, right 256.g1 vs v.1 left 239.9g, right 247.0g so there is an approximate 10g weight gain which isn't much and given the stack height is still probably best in class. I attribute the weight gain to the increased outsole depth and upper changes. Like you Edd, I actually liked the v1 upper but I'm not fussed over the changes made. Whilst in v1 I think I could have gone half a size down in v2 it is definitely true to size (in my case). I would recommend going TTS. Price is ridiculous but it has become normalized now so I'm not going to continue to carry on about it. Thanks for the review Edd.

      I'd guess filling in the sole to stop the stones will of added that extra weight. I use the term loosely as its not noticeable even with both in hand. My size 9 come in at 259 grams and superblast 1 are 251 grams but that's after a lot of miles so will have worn sole down.

IMO my favorite is the SB2, i find the ride to be perfect for my feet (my feet are a little on the wider size although not enough to buy wide style shoes, quite flat footed and my weight 70kg). the rocker is perfect for my style of running and the lockdown is perfect.

    It’s interesting that your experience with the SB2 seems very different than what all the shoetubers are saying from their initial reviews. I guess time will tell if you just need more break in time to feel what they say, or if what they say is more marketing than genuine experience.

    We all wait for EDDBUD review! Loved V1- put almost 1000 Km on 1 pair and onto my second. Specifc use for me was for long marathon training runs with some goal pace. Where V1 fell short was when running light trails and gravel. I wanted to use them on a few 50 K ultra's - but with the cut outs in the outsole - it just wasn't practical.. too many hitchhikers... V2 while less versatile overall than V1- might be great for that specific use case.

    Appreciate the honest review. I got a pair last week, I didn't get a chance to try the SB1, but I'm a big fan of the Novablast 4 - I'm on my 2nd pair. I'm a forefoot striker and only have 2 run in the SB2 so far - but I feel quite underwhelmed, on my tempo run in them yesterday I really started to wish I had my Novablasts on, it just wasn't really giving me anything much back. And at easy paces it feels terribly clunky. I really hope it breaks in a bit and I can get good use out of them.

I have an old pair of Asics Gel Trabuco trail shoes which still have some life in them, as I don’t do all that much trail running, but those Asics are road to trail and still fairly decent. • @TimGrose
    @TimGrose Před 20 dny +10

    Umm interesting. This is the first "Neutral" review I can recall seeing on this one and since you got sent it "for review" it rather underlines what I was on about in my latest vid. I did think if a UK 10.5 is good for you then maybe a UK 12 might work for me. ASICS of course don't make their best shoes past that for some reason so normally "am out". That said, I did have both a UK 12 and UK 13 in the Novablast 3 and both were usable but my ideal length was probably a 12.5 they don't do. Given we are normally 2 full sizes apart then sounds like I could probably run in a 12 but would probably feel just a fraction short. But then at the end if you are questioning if the Novablast 4 is more versatile than it and did I hear that the NB4 is actually lighter then am thinking that could well be a massive waste of £200 as I only found the Novablast 4 "OK" but haven't reached for it of late which is never a good sign. That is a bit of a one trick pony for me as well - easy day runs. Guess could pick up the pace in it but not out of choice when selecting a shoe to head out in for a faster run. And yet most other CZcamsrs seem to be falling over themselves in praise for this SB2 and I got the impression that the Superblast 1 actually had a load of "faults" that often only seem to "surface" when a new version of a hype shoe drops.

    • @EDDBUD
      @EDDBUD  Před 19 dny +2

    I did not go for the SUPERBLAST 2, I felt the changes where to many, the weight gain, running position change, confusion about the rubber, upper changes, shame really and seeing some of the mixed reviews, is exactly what ASICS wanted. LEAD the hype followers of V1 to immediately clear stock & £200, I paid £180 for both pairs of my V1 & that hurt the piggy bank a lot, I am looking elsewhere now. Some reviewers said not many changes, some even said very similar, some said not any increase in weight....Who to believe .. ASICS Trilology continues... BACK TO THE ASICS PT 3

    • @Fozzee.1970
      @Fozzee.1970 Před 19 dny +1

      Different sizes will show different variances from the previous version. The weight difference is so minimal it's irrelevant. The SB2 fixes the issues I had with version 1. Better fitting upper (for me) with more structure in the heel giving me better stability and better grip. I think the midsole break in time will be less with this model and it feels less clunky in the heel for me. For context I'm a 98kg runner who uses these for longer tempo runs.

    Ran last night with this and I'm seriously impressed now as I weren't at all with the 1st gen. My first gen probably were not the best combo with mid and outsole foam combo that it felt more like a wooden clog at the bottom(probably weren't well broken in enough to enjoy). Where as the gen2 is just perfect balance for me out of box as if I just broken already in for 100k. I could land perfectly in the mid section and there is just nice balanced amount of bounce and plushness.
    I'm just happy that I found the new do it all shoe now without a plate at all. Especially since I don't like saucony's changes with the speed 4/pro 4's.(more stride and stepping power than the used roll feel, I mean you really have to work harder with those by opening up the strides and land harder to enjoy and reap the benefits than before. Less ideal than before for easy daily milage logging sessions)
