- Karl's a community favourite for sure, I mean, how many of us keep going back to Empire despite all the new, shiny toys we get with DLCs? I sure can't seem to help it! His early game strategy has changed quite a bit since the Empire Update a while back, so let's take a look at what we can do in the first 10 turns.

First 5 turns - this guide is flawless.
Last 5 turns - hell to the no
Basically stop after you take Helmgart. Taking Montfort means you have to start a war with either Parravon or Bastonne.... a war which you will win easily like you said but will drag you further from your Empire's borders. At that time, either the greenskins attack Middenland or Sylvania pouring into your eastern borders or Norsca invades from the north or Couronne from the west. Then your authority starts falling FAST like -2 before turn 15 even which destroys your growth and tax rate and the 25+ unit stacks you have among your 2 armies cripples your income below 1k. It'll take you way too long to get back. Basically keep your army at home, you are gonna need it. Also when you do the quest battles or take Helmgart.... attack with a 19 unit army. KEEP 1 SLOT FREE = you can get a free mortar from the defenders which is OP for early game. Make a hard save around turn 5/6 then and experiment with different routes for first time players.
I'm interested to see how this will all work in IE! I imagine what you've suggested will be even more relevant due to the new factions that will surround the Empire.

Just saying = You could do the quest battle on turn 1 if u did the fights before well so your army is nearly full =)

You should take Marienburg early if Couronne manages to take it, the garrison will be depleted and Louens army will be damaged.
I keep getting spammed with 2 stacks of greenskins from the south, can't do anything as they also come from the north and as soon I leave to support eilhart they attack helmgart. It's such bs. I'll add that you seem to have better luck as the greenskins attacked me on turn 8 with 2 stacks.
Where's our boy gelt at? Can't do a empire campaign if your not playing the strongest legendary lord for the empire :P

I don't have the fealty mechanic. How can I activate it? My tech tree looks different and there is no fealty anywhere: not at the top bar, not in the tech tree or skill trees. I have all DLCs active and no mods.
Hey! The fealty mechanic was introduced in 'The Hunter & The Beast' DLC pack, but I believe it may have been a FLC. You may need to download the FLC from steam/total war access to gain this feature.

Did I miss something? It was all going great guns until I blundered south into Montfort as suggested, where I ran slap bang into a massive force of cavalry. Not a great match-up with the recommended force of archers (plus about four melee units). Can’t win the fight for love nor money and by this point in the run-down there was no specific combat advice. What gives?!?
How do you recruit archers and Free Company Militia? I always start the siege of the second city and get my ass handed to me because of lack of ranged units.. and you just recruit archers..
Archers are a DLC unit from 'The Hunter & The Beast' expansion and can be recruited from the main settlement buildings. Free Company Militia are recruited from T1 barracks.

I appreciate your effort but this isn't a very good guide. It's better than most but you are missing a lot of stuff. Just one example: did you know you can win the 1st battle with 0 casualties and only 4-500 damage taken by Karl? Same for the 2nd one. Did you know you can fight the bloodpine battle on turn 1 and win it [but with lots of casualties] or on turn 2 with almost no casualties [and get a wizard on turn 2 btw]. Did you know you can lure the general in Ubersreik to fight you at the end of turn 2 and get 2 extra battles before taking the town [and 2 extra levels on Karl and the wizard] etc. Oh least I forget did you know you can get 1000+ gold from Kislev on turn 1 if they have the underdog trait? Or 450 from Manfred [guaranteed] or 400 from Gelt [guaranteed]. All of it on Legendary campaign/VH battle
