The dramatic “dream build” music sends this over the top. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite CZcams channels. Keep it up Jeff!
Never too late for the spoof ASMR bike build. Im sure you could make it an awesome video!
Really enjoyed this video, Jeff! The music, the cut, the craic, the insight - brilliant! Really looking forward to seeing you on a wider range of steeds, in spite of having just bought my first Ibis! Cheers! :)
Thanks Graham! I appreciate that a ton!!!
This is the best bike built video I've seen. Pure fire.🔥
Thanks for sharing Jeff! You're such a Master. 🙏🏻
Thanks Marcos!
Looks amazing! One of the most beautiful bikes I’ve seen.
Glad to see I'm not the only one to use toe nail clippers to trim zip ties
this is the most relaxing video I have ever watched on CZcams.
I hear you Jeff on the bike builds. I can watch about 40 seconds then turn it off. Your cool commentary kept me in the game on this vide. Watched it all. I thought it would have come in at 35lbs with those WTB tires, but much less than I expected. Loved this.
Hey man, this video made me really excited to start my build!!
This was really well shot. And y'all chose great music. Nice work!
That is pretty sick.. the linkage fork was a great touch
Love the build vid, thanks Jeff!
Thanks for watching Jason!
Awesome build and bike, love it.
Thanks man!
Love that bike!
Macride spacer + Macride + Snacks for the win :)
Enjoy the rig!
Well, that is a different take on a dream build... I like it!
Thanks Todor! I would so much rather hear what is going on with the build than just the shop noises, but I'm likely the only one that thinks that way!
Small world, Jeff! I just took delivery of my new Doctahawk...took my second ride on it today in fact! Previous hardtail was a Rootdown BA. Enjoy the bike!
Congrats Ryan! How you liking it? Seems like a gnar gnar bicycle!!!
Ryan: please, please, PLEASE put something online about your Doctorhawk: there is almost nothing about them - it's a unicorn!!
And how it compares to the rootdown?
@@JeffKendallWeed Jeff, I read your comment and promptly went out for another ride on the 'hawk. The geo feel is similar to my SB150, so I had no trouble adapting to the bike. It is deceptively fast, and feels faster than my Yeti going downhill. Will need.to confirm with some laps at the bike park. Climbing and technical moves are the big surprise. Short stays help with both aspects...and here in New England, we have a lot of tight, technical, rooty and rocky bits to navigate. Again, coming from a Rootdown I mostly knew what to expect, so maybe the biggest surprise is how relatively nimble and stable the bike is in slow speed stuff with a 180mm fork and 62 degree head angle. It's nuts!
@@olivercastling2297 Thanks Oliver. I think I will do that, appreciate the mention. There is really so little about it online, but every little bit.I found influenced how I thought about it and the eventual purchase. More to come.
WOW, A bike build that I actually sat through and enjoyed, well done legend. That looks like a super sweet bike to ride. Be curious to hear your thoughts n opinions on the Trust fork and Chromag setup.
Thank you Flow! I was kinda struggling to film a traditional dream build. My own video style is a little unique, so doing this more my way seemed like a better fit in the end than imitating an "audio only" approach. Will be chatting about the Trust vs Telescoping fork in Episode 3 of the Chromag vlog!
Yeah... I can't sit through the dream build videos... I'm yelling at the screen saying "why did you choose that part?!" or "wait, is that a 150 or 175mm dropper post?!"
Love to hear what's going on!
I'm the same as all of you I loved that bike build thanks jeff
I really love Stylus, I have a yellow 26" 2014 version, put it with 27.5 wheels and axs dropper since no hole available on that version
I have the same bike! I got mine in 2018. Worst bike maintenance experience of my life was hitting it with frame saver. The stuff smells like gasoline and crayons, and it tastes like stronger gasoline and crayons. Worth it for a bike that will last decades though!
just bought this exact same bike, daydreamer stylus built around a 170 fork. I'm curious what your travel is on the trust and what you think about the bike overall. Stoked for more content on this bike!! sooo stoked! you never see any content on these wonderful bikes
Thing looks wild 🔥🔥 I think I’m gonna pull the trigger on a older stylus
cool video
So it seems every time you build a new bike, you literally, get a brand new set of I9s! Think they'd help a weekend warrior like myself? Warehouse is only 15 minutes from me. Haha. Really enjoy your vids man, keep crushin'
the struggle is real putting in tyres in that cushcore
Chromag, love they rides, great bikes, great company, especially with my favorite hard tail types of rides!!Someone maybe knows, do they also making - producing eLectric bikes?
sweet. looks like a divergent timeline version of my ss chameleon
Thanks Yuck!
I once put the tire on the wrong direction, took it off and put it on the other way only to realize it was right the first time!!! Aaaaaggghhhhh!!!!
Heard some Lore podcast theme music in there Jeff! Rad video!
Hahaha did that stuff sound familiar? I think the artist is Chad Lawson? I found it on a site I subscribe to that provides music for videos.
Nice build Jeff, fully understand why you came to your senses and put some gears on that thing :-D Curious if happen to have another 650B wheelset without Cush Core and can give an opinion on the difference on a steel HT like this? Does it help with undamped rebound that much at the lower pressures that the extra weight is worth it?
Have to agree about the fork, on an FS not too bad since there's linkages in the back, but on the HT, looks weird. Hoping that maybe you're game to picking up a nice 500mm A2C rigid fork and building a nice 29er wheel, i40 and throwing a 3" tyre on there to see how it rides (should keep the geo fairly similar with that setup).
Have to say, bit disappointed with that jank as hell rear brake setup, isn't this the adapter you need? Might have to take a file to it and take a mm off, but that's easy enough to do and would be much more solid a setup.
www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-R203PS-Disc-Brake-Adaptor
Jeff, how do you feel and what are you doing with trust performance now?
You really know how to wrench. Who was the videographer: Logan?
JKW turns the snark up to 11. I like it.
Grrrr super rad🤘
Hi Jeff. Can you tell me what headset did you use? Ben from new york. Thanks
The Trust should be perfect for a hardtail.. nice build
Thanks!!! The little Message has been OK, but I'd like more travel and more small bump sensitivity. I'll do a full vlog on it soon!
I ride SS too, but how do get a 7 pound bike up the hill to then enjoy the down on the beauty? Especially in 34-19?
Color is sweet!
What type of bikes have you ridden in the pass besides ibis?
Thank you! I haven't ridden much beyond Ibis. I've popped around on a few Santa Cruzes, Pivots, Konas, and a handful of ebikes (Pivot, Intense, Devinci). I've been spending some time on the new Orbea Occam now that I have one. Hoping to ride a lot more this season with Jenson's support!
Great work on the build video, great angles, well shot.👌
I don't think you will need to use the levers, only thing I use tyre lever for is to push bead into centre of rim and to take tyre off, there should be no reason not do what you do at 6:57
But I haven't tried this tyre, rim combo.
the key to installing tyres fast & easily is to get enough slack.
6:03 be careful, they will snap if you abuse them, but these are a bad product anyway, tried and abused these just to test it, and yest I managed to snap two, by doing what you did but I took it to the extreme.
So I have tested the Crank Brothers Speedier lever with same abuse and did not snap. Still using it.
@@bananasstuff3344 I hope this clarifies my previous comment, I admit it was not clear enough, I am sorry:
I mean to seat the tyre, like with a motorcycle or car tyre, using big lever cus it's impossible to put on, what I do is I get enough slack and use tyre lever to push tyre into the rim channel, now I use Cush Core lever, specifically made for it. and use lever to take the tyre off easily. no need to use whole body, and use long levers, or metal levers, that just scratches the rim. There is no need to be brutal, or abuse your self and the rim. The key is to get enough slack.
Que hermosa 😘😘😘💯🙌🚲🔥🔥 saludos Jeff
Gracias hombre!
What fork will you be running next since Trust has stop their operation.
Ever get a wobble in your tire after install with Cushcore?
Yoo dawg. Real opinion on the Dagga pedals..? Too wide? Whatchu think
I know in your previous video with you riding the bike you said the other bike (not sure what it was) would work better with a single speed set up, will you add gears to that bike or keep it the same? Great video!
Ah, you're asking about the Chromag build vlog EPISODE 2! It's coming soon!!!
5:16 use the calluses on right at the base of your fingers for this
Yoooo jeff im just wondering since you have a medium sized frame, how tall are you?
More hardtail!
Hey Jeff, just bought the last wideangle jenson had and am looking for a fork. The trust fork you installed is 130 travel, but the stylus is recommended for 150-170 travel fork. Does the bike feel under forked? And did the headtube angle remain the same? Thanks!
Hey Kirk, just saw this- I didn't really have the Stylus "underforked", as despite the shorter travel, the Trust is a 29" fork with a longish axle to crown. The 170mm Z1 that's on it now and in the more recent Bike Check vid from a few weeks ago didn't really reel any slacker. I really like the Stylus, it's a very capable bike that's reliable and well built. I'm about to throw yet another different set up on it and change it up, will def. post some videos of that!
@@JeffKendallWeed awesome! Thanks for the response. Love your videos, keep up the awesome work man🤘
Thanks Kirk enjoy the hardtail!
Like everything except for the fork.
Hahahaha fair enough!
@@JeffKendallWeed seriously more comment/view on trust fork would be appriciated!
@@fenari75 If you are referring to me, I don't own nor have I ridden the trust fork. And don't doubt that it works just fine. Personally I just can't get past the look of it, also the price.
what tire setup are you running ? F/Back. thanks!
I love your videos, but are you using the trust message or the trust shout on the styles
This is the Message. The Shout is IMO too big for the Stylus.
Jeff, what is your record time for building a bike from the frame to completion?
Norbert Demanuele The longer it takes, the better the build IMO...
Is there a space for 2.8 tires?
What made you choose the Stylus over other Chromag models? My 2017 Wideangle is fun! Definitely requires a bit more technique than riding a full-sus bike though.
I didn't actually choose it, I asked the guys at Chromag about their models and they recommended that one for me, so I followed their advice. They said it was the more aggressive option.
@@JeffKendallWeed I have that bike. My take on steep ST angle same as yours... maybe a bigger frame. Obviously the 200mm dropper post takes care of your problem ;).. to me a steep ST angle makes more sense for full suspension's sag. Ability to slide up to nose on a hardtail plus ability to sit back and use gluteus-maximus uphill makes an argument for a slacker angle. Still, not selling mine.
You got all those fancy tools😂
hahaha right?! Just enough fancy tools to get it done pro!
please do a review on a doctahawk
That would be fun! Not sure I have room for any more bikes at the moment tho!!!
What gearing are you running for your SS setup ?
Hey TONC, I forget the exact ratio, though seem to think it was a 32/19? I used to LOVE 2:1 on my 26" bikes. That was with 170mm cranks. I raced the Downieville Classic XC and finished 2nd in the SS category on that set up- but that was 10 years ago! Our hills here are a little steep for consistent single speed riding. Santa Cruz was a much place to ride SS.
Would look so good with a normal fork! I just can't stand the trust forks 😣
Hahaha fair enough Brendo!
7:14 What are those spacer things for, don't think you installed them :o
I've seen them installed before, I think they do something to keep the bolts from backing out. I've only once had rotor bolts back out on a bike, that was years and years ago though, so I've never used those clips.
@@JeffKendallWeed Ok, good to know 👍
How tall are you? I’m roughly 5’10-11 and trying to see if a medium or large works
Im 5’8”. This is a small bike. Go for a large for trail riding or an M/L for play riding.
What is that rear fender?
Bad joke 😂😂
Have you tried (or thought about trying) the xc cushcore inserts to reduce weight? I’ve read that a lot of people are applying them to AM/enduro applications.
Hey there Matt, I have not tried the XC mini cores. I should!
Damn, my wideangle is 27.
I don't mean to be rude or anything but I almost started to cry because the music was so sad.
Jeff, I truly wish I could ride a hardtail, but here in SoCal, there isn't enough flowy goodness for it to be fun it'd probably just explode on a rock garden the size of Rhode Island. Cool build anyways cant wait to come up to Bellingham this summer if everything cools down with this corona business. Great video
New fork sponsor needed?
Using grease on the sitube?
Yep! On carbon bikes I use either grease or carbon assembly compound, depending on how tight the fit is.
You should get some xacto knives for your next dream build video.
Why? They don't work as well as the nail clippers and are a lot more dangerous.
7.12??for the frame? isnt it heavy?
Yes. It's heavier than my HD5 full suspension frame. It's also MUCH less $$$ and will not need nearly as much maintenance.
@@JeffKendallWeed your right like its two frames already... but its looks so nice...
7 pounds for the frame?
That’s pretty heavy...
What material is the frame?
Chromoly
Needs more grease 👍
indeed
Moar greeeeease!
Must it be the expensive type? jk
I like the fork but that fender ruins it for me
please do a spoof ASMR video
That would be fun! I'm not good at comedy though!
Nail cutters ftw, JKL!
DUDE! They work so well! I feel like they are about as pro as it gets.
"It's alright it's creamy!"
RIP trust
Sorry but why are you using a derailleur on a single speed🤔
Jedidiah West it’s a chain tensioner
Hmmm yeah I guess that does make since. I guess I was just thinking about older bikes where the tire could be moved for tension. Thanks
@@jedidiahwest4619 Yeah the tensioner solution actually works pretty darn well. It's what my trials bike uses (Inspired Hex 26") and I never had a problem there. I'd prefer some some of adjustable drop out solution, and I'd love to try a bike that has those Paragon adjustable drop outs. Rick Hunter (Hunter Cycles) has some cool drop outs as well. Horizontal, sliding dropouts are OK, but a total hassle. If you land sideways they can move, and aligning brakes every time you remove a wheel gets old quick. The tensioner is an easy, cheap, and tested method. It has a lot more tension than a standard derailleur, too.
Took me 15 minutes to figure out what a mac ride spacer was. The website is terrible and took me that long to figure out it was a child seat. No kid, so I'll never get that time back. Haha
lol when you become a parent you'll be stoked you know!
Jeff here is the single speed gear issue for the modern handrail...
2 bi up front...I can’t send pics, but I revived a Azonic Solom hardtail with a 2x1...one for up, one for down.
This is perhaps the strangest bike I've ever seen. Looks cool tho
Well, you ruined it nicely and with great production value.
We need a dirt bike video
Hahaha we might just have one in the works, stay tuned!
Lmk when you are ready to sell it ;)
Might be a few years- thus far I really like it!
@@JeffKendallWeed +1 on getting that beauty to Texas! :-)
just so you know, there’s a tool for the brake line ferrule. and for cutting zip ties. and for painting grease.
LOL thanks Ben!
Someone send Jeff over a grease brush. 😂 Jk I do the same thing
You call it torquoise, but my generation call it "hospital green".
Hahahaha! Though too soon with the covid-19 thing going on? Meh, I think it's ok!
man get a bigger grease brush, this is ridiculous...
face palm on that rear brake adapter, Alfine is still not tight enough and that rear fender is only good for Grandpa's bike
LOL I use my finger when the zip tie doesn't work! I've sent all the hardest lines in town with that fender and never noticed it's there- except I don't get nearly as wet as when I don't use it! I just bought a couple more to put on my other bikes.
that fork is excruciatingly ugly.
That is one ugly looking fork:)! Just saying. Be better off w/ something else.
Seems like a huge waste of money for a 32 lb hard tail.. plenty of full sus bikes that weigh less.
@@bananasstuff3344 By that logic everyone is stupid for not riding old 2009 downhill bikes in 2020
Miami vice paint job is UGLY!
this is the most relaxing video I have ever watched on CZcams.
