An avid viewer here of Maria Clara and Ibarra and I'm telling you this historical portal fantasy drama is a masterpiece, the characters, the setting, the cinematography, the musical scoring, the symbolisms etc.,is on another level. This is not the typical drama in television.

3:16 I too have a really huge dislike when I noticed they cut out parts like I want to see their reaction to the whole thing and for me, not being able to see the whole thing feels discouraging or disappointing, though, that's just me because it feels like whenever they do that... Like I'm missing so much, it's like trying to eat filipino dish without rice and say that it tastes somehow average when it can taste so much better if you eat it with rice, that's how I feel when watching reaction videos with too much cuts or editting out scenes. Maria Clara and Ibarra are characters in Noli Me Tangere novel. Crisostomo Ibarra is the main male protagonist and Maria Clara is his fiancee in the novel . Maria Clara in the novel/1880s is played by Julie Anne. Present time Maria Clara nicknamed Klay is a gen z nursing student in the present time.

Maria Clara is the protagonist in the Jose Rizal's novel where Klay (a surname of who is also Maria Clara, she was named Maria Clara because her grandmother, as her mother said to her in that episode, her grandmother would name her children as characters in the novel) was trapped inside and Ibarra was Maria Clara's (from the novel) boyfriend.

TITO in english is Uncle. We call someone TITO if the man is connected to us or somewhat became close to us (a neighbor who is close to my family, my bestfriend's father). We also call our parents' siblings TITO = uncle (or TITA = Aunt). In this case, Klay calls her mother's 2nd husband/partner TITO (uncle) as a sign of respect.
Barbie Forteza or Klay in this history drama is acknowledge as a veteran actress by many actors and actresses in the industry themselves, she is versatile (she can portray any roles very well. She can play any genres very well). Julie Anne San Jose is an actress and singer, who played as Maria Clara in the past. Her role as the maria clara seemed to be her destined role in this show, she portrayed it well, her acting is so effective. These two women are also best friends in real life for a long time.
All characters in this show were good actors and actresses that truly portrayed their roles really well, even the extra's, or those who have minor roles in this show. This film is based on Noli me tangere that written by Philippines national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

Reacting 😆first time seeing this ... I have read Noli Me Tangere during college days, it's hard to understand the language because some words you have to search of their meaning without clues.I am glad GMA is airing this one.
i'd been seeing this series in CZcams and hearing that its a hit here in Philippines but im not yet watching it since now. admittedly, like klay, i never got the interest of reading and understanding it when im still studying it in high school. hahaha.
Ibarra is not a location. It is also one of the main character in the novel Noli Me Tangere and/or love interest of Maria Clara. The fullname is Crisostomo Ibarra. You will see how the evolution of the story. A very successful series and GMA really steps up their A game in landscaping the Philippine Drama into a notch. With playing around the storyline by incorporating past with the present times. A lot of Filipinos values unraveled and great cinematic shots and intricate costume and props design. Many were hooked to this series and gaining much attention. You haven't scene much of the tragic scenes of the book especially the part of Sisa. Great review and wanting to see how you would react to the other scenes. Keep it coming!

BTW, in the Philippines, stepdad is usually called "uncle" or "tito", not "dad" unless stepdad is married with the mom.

In Highschool especially Junior high we study this Novel Nole Me Tangere (Touch me not) and in Senior high the book 2 of his Novel El Filibusterismo. And when we go in College we study this again.

The series is on point. Everything that happened in the book has been executed well in this series but just adding up Klay's scenes. I'm happy you watched the first episode! You should watch the drama on Tinola Subbing Team's bilibili channel! They are the fansubbing group who translated it. The subtitles are good, and they put effort putting translations notes explaining, as some things loses its context when translated to english.

They also have the power to control their parents’ assets after they passed away. But in this case, usually it’s not uncommon to see abusive spouse in the Philippines. Like in most poor countries, this happens a lot.

The title is simply translated as 'Maria Clara and Ibarra'
In the very last part, you are seeing two Maria Clara. One is Maria Clara Infantes (portrayed by Barbie Forteza) a nursing student from the present, and the other one is Maria Clara De Los Santos y Alba (portrayed by Julie Ann San Jose) a devout Roman Catholic who became the epitome of virtue, "demure and self-effacing,” humorless and prone to fainting.
And one of the main antagonists in this series is named Juan Crisostomo Ibarra y Magsalin (portrayed by Dennis Trillo), he is the fiance of Maria Clara De Los Santos y Alba. And so, Ibarra is not a place, that's just how Crisostomo was popularly known in the novel 'Noli Me Tangere'.
'Uncle' is actually translated as 'Tito' in the Filipino Language, but for some reason, 'Tito' or 'Uncle' is also used now as an alternative way of calling a stepfather.
