I’m curious to see how these will turn out. I never really thought about all the points you made. I’m learning a lot from you!

Thanks for the tips Derek ! Red and Black might look good with those streaks in the body ?

Possible to do black on ash body but torch the grain so the grain black is darker than the stain? I kinda want a black/gold theme with dyes. Gold would have to come from pickups and hardware. Maybe a black burst and thin out the black in the middle? Thanks D!

Is there anything in particular I should be aware of if I want to try to color rengas wood specifically? I can't seem to find anything about it, and I want to do a particular kit guitar in a nice deep red that still keeps the wood grain visible.

Where do you source your raw wood? I'm in Central Fl and it's difficult to find Alder.

How about Okoume? I cant seem to find any info on Okoume wood in reference to guitars. i just bought a kit to build a guitar and i hate the plain wood look its super ugly. id like to stain it black and put a poly coat over it to give it a nice shine. Any stains and polys that would work for Okoume? also do to wipe it down with a grease and oil remover prior or staining and finishing? or does that only matter for paint? thanks

Hey, have you got any more info on this since posting? I bought a kit that uses Okuome too and there's very little info on it.

Nothing, these tools don't even respond to their own content smh but i realized from a few videos that Okoume is similar to basswood so you can treat it similarly. i just got a poly coat to seal the natural wood grain with. it seems to have some sort of light finish on it so i would sand it a little bit just to be safe. good luck my friend!
