As a dedicated Nintendo Switch enthusiast, I've explored numerous grips and accessories in search of the perfect handheld controller. While the Hori Split Pad Pro came close, a few missing elements left me yearning for more. Enter the NYXI Hyperion Pro - a compelling contender that promises to revolutionize the handheld gaming experience.
Design and Comfort:
The Hyperion Pro's design immediately captivated me, hinting at its potential to replace both the Split Pad Pro and standard Joy-Con. Boasting wireless functionality and a middle rail for full controller conversion, my expectations soared. Spoiler alert: it delivered.
Performance:
For those accustomed to the Split Pad's analog sticks, the Hyperion Pro elevates the experience with full-sized Hall Effect Joysticks. Responsive buttons and a myriad of customization options kept me immersed in extensive gaming sessions, whether on the big screen or in handheld mode with titles like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Features and Functionality:
Backpaddles, programmable Macro buttons, turbo functions, and adjustable vibration settings add layers of versatility. While the absence of mechanical triggers might disappoint some, the shoulder buttons deliver an ergonomic experience akin to the Switch Pro Controller.
Aesthetics and Lighting:
NYXI's signature RGB lighting makes a stylish appearance. Though changing colors might be a tad cumbersome, the Turbo function simplifies cycling through a spectrum of RGB hues. The "breathing" effect adds a dynamic touch without being distracting, and the subtle glow from the face buttons is a delightful detail.
Minor Gripes:
The D-Pad, while not mechanical, can be audibly clicky, possibly due to microswitches. Late-night gaming might be a bit noisy. Additionally, the sleep function kicks in rather promptly, more of a personal quibble than a substantial drawback.
Materials and Build:
Contrary to initial assumptions, the D-Pad is not metallic. However, the metal rings around the joysticks enhance rotation smoothness. The joystick toppers feature a textured diamond pattern, and the grippy rubber-coated surface ensures a secure hold during gameplay.
Conclusion:
In a pleasantly surprising twist, the Hyperion Pro managed to surpass my fondness for the Wizard. It stands as an outstanding replacement for drifting Joy-Cons and a top-tier Pro Controller alternative. Despite the occasional clicky D-Pad and swift sleep function, it emerges as a versatile, comfortable, and well-constructed controller that has become my go-to choice every time I power up my Nintendo Switch.
