They went from finding it difficult to lie to other angels and obeying heavens rules to the tea, to simply doing what THEY thought was right, not heaven. They learnt to do this easier. I dont think they would have wanted to return to the place with rules and plans that they didnt agree with, even if they could change some of it. Just my ideas tho :))
Aziraphale is too afraid to let his hair down. Imagine all the things he might have wanted to do through the centuries but he was afraid to? Because he's an angel. Didn't want to tarnish the image? Crowley can well...he's a demon so it doesn't matter what he does. Just my take on it.

In the beginning of season 2 when they first meet before the beginning, which Aziraphale helps him start, it looks like he was crushing from the beginning as Crowley enthusiastically talks about the stars and gets a bit jealous when he realizes that Crowley was talking to the universe when he said "you're gorgeous". I think Aziraphale realized his feelings after the bombing after doing something totally good for him, like you said, and without even being asked/influenced or forced to, showing he is fundamentally/at heart still good, like the angel he once was. I believe Crowley looks in love when he hears Crowley when he rescues him during the French revolution but hides it when he turns. 1941 is definitely the point of no return/becomes official.

Anyway, his happiness at talking to Aziraphale is just oozing out of his voice and it is SO ADORABLE.
My head cannon, right after the rain when Azi was blocking up the garden so no one would get in, Crowley stayed behind just long enough to hear God say his name and ask where the sword is
