- Fox Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt sits down with Fox President of Insight and Analytics, Michael Mulvihill to discuss how College Football and NFL games are scheduled between the different TV networks. Michael explains how the game selection process between TV networks works and why it’s closer to a fantasy football draft than people may realize. The two also discuss the decision making when choosing the Big Noon Saturday Games that were announced last week: Michigan-Ohio State, Texas-Michigan and Alabama-Wisconsin. Mulvihill also details the origins of the concept of Big Noon Saturday and why FOX is adding big-time games on the Friday night schedule this Fall.

Most interesting thing I’ve seen in a long time. Get this guy on every week!
This was an incredible interview! Standing ovation to Klatt, I didn’t know I’d be so intrigued by learning about the TV coverage of CFB! *mind-blown
They need to televise this draft ngl. Would be box office
This was fascinating and insightful. May I add that as recent as mid 2000s, the Big Ten was almost exclusively an afternoon league for the entire season. So Big Noon speaks to this long tradition. Now with the four west coast schools joining, they can and have to spread out their games into every Sat time slot, along with Fri night.
Klatt nailed it with that last comment on the noon start. Highlights are on all day and night saturday. The night games highlights are done immediately because subday morning it all shifts to nfl.
As a former Wolverine living abroad, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate big noon kickoff because I get to see our biggest matches at a reasonable time of day
you are never a former wolverine. You are forever a Wolverine. Go Blue!
It was weird watching Michigan play Wisconsin at 6am in Hawaii though.
Most college football fans don't live abroad though. I live in Denver and games at 10 AM are a joke.
@@kevinbond8966 can't please everyone. Some people like to complain just to complain
Michigan Texas should be a night game, not a big noon kickoff
It's too bad Mike couldn't look more relaxed on set. 😂 Dude left the show directly to his boat to go sailing.
Great stuff. Thank you both.
I love this behind the scenes episode! Y’all should broadcast the draft.
I assume it's not done in a single day, probably overr a week or 2
I don't think networks want that info to become public right away, they want to have their big announcements.
This was awesome! Best episode by far. I think stuff like this for die hard CFB fans is fantastic l!!!
Loved hearing all about the behind the scenes in college football!
As a west coast viewer and Michigan alum, Big Noon is awesome! I roll out of bed, grab coffee and we have a great game to watch right away! Can still do other things in the afternoon with family. Thank you for all you do!
really unique insight into something that i find super interesting. great interview. keep it up joel and team!
Incredible insight. Had no idea. Great job, Joel!
I wiah the Ohio St. vs Michigan game would be under the lights. Love Gus, Joel and Jenny.
Joel and team, you did even better than answer my mailbag question; you did a whole podcast on it. Great work!
Thanks so for this informative segment. Love your shows
Joel, thank you for this!! Amazing content on the tv draft!!
I love Fox having so many OSU games. There is no doubt that Fox… specifically Joel and Gus are the best analysts in the business. They are professional in every aspect of the term. The BIG is blessed to have such great unbiased coverage. Last year they covered TTUN a lot and rightfully so. Having said that, they cover the games with great respect for all fan bases.
I really enjoyed this! Great idea for an episode!
I wish this was longer, pretty cool insight. Im curios abot this TV draft, hows its done is it 1 day, a week, a month, through email on zoom, do they have a private site built to flesh out whats been pivked? So many questions.
Excellent interview! Learned a lot!
Love learning some of the behind-the-scenes stuff.
I'm SEC for life but I like Big 10 additions. Was so tired of seeing Michigan vs OSU and sometimes seeing Penn St were the only good games.
I’m only 22 so the “tradition” of all the CFB stuff isn’t as big of deal to me. I personally just want to see the best teams play each other. I’m a Big ten guy but happy to see Texas and OU in the SEC. Should be a great szn of CFB!
Very interesting video on how schedule is done
Such an interesting topic I actually knew nothing about. Joel, you are the king of CFB.
Joel I feel like you are one of, if not the best, analysts in college football, and therefore are a big reason that Big Noon Kickoff has been so successful. (Along with the pregame show and your on air tram.) And my school isn't even in the Big10.
Klatt gets it right 👍
How does the Big XII schedule factor into this? Isn’t Fox obligated to show some Big XII matchups on Big Noon as well? Are they drafting with ESPN concurrently for Big XII dates too?
Man I would not get my hopes up for big 12 coverage we gonna catch y'all on ESPN2
Oregon vs. Ohio State game should be the second or third best Big Ten games. The other would be Oregon vs. Michigan. Although Alabama vs. Wisconsin is interesting, not as important as the other two.
USC/Michigan & Penn St/USC too
I’ve always wanted to witness The Game under the lights, however as a Wolverine who’s gunna be stationed in Iraq, I appreciate it’s at noon again next season😂
Please let Penn state and Ohio state be the white out!
LA casual. Would like to hear his thoughts on realignment and the future of college football 🏈.
Rename Big Noon Kickoff, so you can include west coast home games. Come on!
Big it's Noon somewhere Kickoff
As an Oregon fan who lives in Ohio, it definitely feels like a bummer that Fox will be hesitant to put Oregon home games as their number one choice. Feels like an opportunity missed with this whole joining the B1G thing just due to geography and time zones
You want your Ducks playing a home game at 9am local time?
@@jerodjones1771 not really, and I get that the time zone issue is more at fault than Fox. Just feels like a bummer when your conference’s big time network TV connection can’t do their premium package for your home games. Although if we did play at 9 AM: 1. Autzen would get up for it
2. It worked out last time we played that time window in Columbus.
Don’t get me wrong, Fox puts on a great production and Gus & Joel are fantastic. BUT I HATE big noon kickoff. All these games need to be played at night. Texas @ Michigan at 12pm? Why???
More viewers
Idk if you live in big ten country but big noon is the premiere event for college football. And considering the big ten gets the most views of any conference it shows to the success of big noon.
@@dylantrotter6744 I live in Austin, and yeah obviously they get a lot of viewerships because they are always big games…. that should be played at night.
Also, they did a lot of Big 12 games too.
Yep, it sucks. Big games are always better at night. Must be even worse for the west coast. Is the Big Noon kickoff at 9AM PT? Ugh...
I don’t like night games. Give me a 12pm game in the big ten.
Guy is dang smart but the fact that they don’t consider Seattle part of Wazzu’s market is real dumb. Wazzu has great viewership numbers compared to most former Pac12 and Big12 schools.
“Market size” does not matter, viewership does. I say this as a Wazzu fan who gets ticked at other fans for being cheap and not realizing how good we had/have it.
Go Cougs!
Joel, if you could be on the call for one game in CFB history, whether it’s one you actually did or something from 1950, which would it be?
NFL went to Monday nights, then Thursday nights... glad to see CFB going to Friday nights to grow the brand! BTW, Tuesday and Wednesday are still open... just sayin"
Joel, the only argument that I have is that y'all didn't INVENT the Noon window-big games have been played at Noon for years...
Come on Joel! Ask the man about week 1! Can we atleast get a timeline!?
I love Gus and Joel but man I hate big noon kickoff. I understand the appeal Fox has to do it but it completely screws over the western part of the country. The viewing experience just isn't the same when it's 9 or 10 in the morning. I'm sure Ohio State-Michigan in the primetime window would dwarf whatever game ESPN has the final weekend of the season, and the experience and atmosphere would be way better. Plus it sucks when Penn State can't do their whiteout for Ohio State/Michigan/whoever their biggest opponent of the season is.
I agree for every other game outside of THE Game; it's simply the tradition for them to play each other at noon, always has been. It's part of the aura
If LSU had to play at noon every week we would win 6 or 7 games a year. The student section would be empty, the players would prolly show up late, and the tailgaiting industrial complex would collapse.
I'm a Hawkeye at heart, but I moved from Indiana to Arizona years ago. It's still weird watching college football at 9 AM here. But I still watch! Big Noon has been a massive success
Too bad you had to get Mulvihill off the golf course!
Still no video of Michigan in your intro…?
Good episode, but jeans 👖 would’ve been better.
Love Gus and Klatt, I just hate the Noon time slot for all the big games. Michigan needs more night games.
This off the field, behind the scene college football show is actually interesting to watch. Sometimes I wonder if Fox would ever NOT picking the Michigan vs Ohio State game whenever Fox has the top 3 choices.
You should be able to just pay for fox like you can pay for CBS idk why it's just in bundles it's so dumb it's 2024
I'ma put you on free game even tho CBS are punks for not fighting to keep the SEC. You can just go to best buy and purchase a digital antenna for like $20 to $50 and you'll get all the network stations NBC ABC CBS Fox
Is this guy a Kansas grad, or did he lose a bet to a Kansas grad? Did he think he would be sitting behind a desk for this pod?
Michigan beats Ohio state again this year
