In my dream, Ozzy and Ronnie are "great friends". Its 1982 and Ozzy is still mourning Randy, so instead of Speak of the Devil, Ronnie persuades him to come back to Sabbath for a "therapeutic" show of the 1970-78 era. After an hour of songs, Ozzy and Ronnie embrace and Ozzy exits the stage. Then we are treated to another hour of Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. Also, its recorded for a live album and VHS release 😁

I also wanted to tackle the Tony Martin years because I love that era. His vocals are just beyond.
If Iommi isn't gonna do anything, Yngwie should give him a call. Just saying... He would fit perfect.
So we'll call this "The Eternal And Beyond Tour"
    The Shining
    Ancient Warrior
    Glory Ride
    Born To Lose
    Nightmare
    Lost Forever
Eternal Idol (This song is Beyond Perfection)
    Headless Cross

Black Sabbath, Pete Pardo, and Chris Alo! Can't get much better than that for me! Love this! :-) I know that most Sabbath fans *hate* the "Never Say Die" album, but I truly, seriously, *love* it, and this is *my* Sabbath setlist, so NSD will be well-represented in my very heavy on the "deep cuts" Ozzy/Dio dream setlist (and *purposefully omitting* many of the classic warhorses which we've all heard so many times), with both vocalists on stage for at least one night, and Bill Ward and Vinny Appice also both there, and taking turns on the drums!:
    Never Say Die
    The Mob Rules
    Electric Funeral
    Voodoo
    Behind The Wall of Sleep
    Letters From Earth
    Black Sabbath
    Neon Knights
    Junior's Eyes
    Slipping Away
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath-- *including* the latter part, with the *great* groove riff, that they never played live!
    Lonely Is The Word
    Changes
Falling Off The Edge Of The World
    Wheels of Confusion
The Sign of the Southern Cross
    Air Dance
    Sins Of The Father
    A Hard Road
    Heaven and Hell
    Into The Void
    Lady Evil
    Supernaut
    Walk Away
    The Thrill Of It All

I never got to see the Gillan era, Glenn Hughes era( But attended Seventh Star tour) with Ray Gillen (RIP) filling in for Glenn. Never saw the Tony Martin era. Just bought the records as we do. Any dream setlist would be similar to Pete's with who's alive to do it well in the present.
Like Chris's nice setlists also. Anytime the talk of Sabbath I get reminded of me seeing them with Ronnie on Heaven and Hell Tour- Seventh Star tour with Ray and Reunion tour with Ozzy and Bill Geezer and Tony. Nice job guys.

    I'm loving Chris' 1975 Dreamlist!!!!!!
The only thing I would tinker with is I would take out Who Are You? and replace it with Hand Of Doom.
Actually, I would also want them to end it with The Warning.
But '75 is definitely the way to go!
    What I would give!

  • @Leery_Bard

Originally, I had planned a Reunion era 20-track gig for today, but Pete’s idea and what Chris said about the “Sabbath Family” tour made me think I should dream big for this, so here’s a whole day with Black Sabbath for a proper one-off farewell gig. It’s a sunny Sunday in London and they’re playing in Hyde Park. It’s 2015 but of course, Ronnie is alive and well and everybody is in great shape, basically unaffected by time. Also, I’d like to make it clear that they’re playing throughout the day. So, of course, we have Tony Iommi on guitar, Geezer Butler on bass, Bill Ward on drums and Geoff Nichols on keyboards. Here are all the setlists each with a different singer:
    ***** Ozzy Osbourne *****
    Psycho Man
    N.I.B.
    Iron Man
    Into The Void
    Under The Sun
    Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
    Thrill Of It All
    Dirty Women
    Shock Wave
    Loner

    Time Machine
    Voodoo
    Neon Knights
    I
    The Mob Rules
    Lonely Is The Word
    Ear In The Wall
    Buried Alive
Falling Off The Edge Of The World
    Heaven And Hell
    ***** Ian Gillan *****
    Disturbing The Priest
    Trashed
    Hot Line
    Digital Bitch
    Keep It Warm
    ***** Glenn Hughes *****
    In For The Kill
    Angry Heart
    Seventh Star
    Turn To Stone
    Danger Zone
    ***** Tony Martin *****
    Hard Life To Love
    Black Moon
    Valhalla
The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
    Can’t Get Close Enough
    Born To Lose
    Headless Cross
    Heaven In Black
    I Witness
    Shaking Off The Chains
    Jerusalem
    Psychophobia
    Get A Grip
    Evil Eye
    Forbidden
    ***** Ozzy Osbourne (again) *****
    War Pigs
    Snowblind
    Fairies Wear Boots
    Wheels Of Confusion
    Symptom Of The Universe
***** Ronnie James Dio (again) *****
    Fear
    Double The Pain
    Eating The Cannibals
    Follow The Tears
    Neverwhere

Love Chris Alo's setlist, but I'm going to meet Sabbath in St. Louis at what was later to be renamed the Ckeckerdome in 1972 before the release of Vol 4. With only three albums at this point the classic line-up is on fire, including doing my favorite album, Master of Reality, in its entirety plus much of the first two albums.

They never performed much of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, my favorite album. I would have liked to have heard that in its entirety. And since Rick Wakeman left Yes in ‘74, let’s fantasize that he joins them to reprise his keyboard parts, as well as add flourishes to second set selections like Wheels of Confusion, After Forever, Electric Funeral, and yes the obligatory hits too.

I love your dream setlist Pete!!! That would be my ultimate dream setlist including all the lead singers that Black Sabbath has had. Instead of Jorn Lande which i love I would have picked Rob Halford instead. I am going to have to think really hard about the setlist. It would definitely be at least a three hour show easily. I will come back on this comment when I have the setlist complete.

Actually I just double checked, looks like I did see them play "Under The Sun"! Barclays Center Brooklyn, March 31st 2014. Now that I see it on the screen, I'm like, oh yeah, that's right! And I even have the show on a bootleg DVD. Still a great track, wouldn't mind having it in my set. :)

@@chrisalo2989 I saw them play it in London, Ontario. I believe that same year. I’ve always liked that song, and actually liked it even more after seeing it performed live. That was the highlight of that show for me. My favourite BS song is Sabbra Cadabra, surprisingly they’ve never played it since 1976!!!

Never saw Sabbath live, seeing Dio 3 times was as close as I got. I did have a chance to see them on Cross Purposes; a guy who was a metalhead and who worked for my college had extra tickets and invited me to join. They were at, I believe, Roseland Ballroom with Motorhead and Morbid Angel. The kicker was that, as mentioned, I was in college, it was a weeknight and I was studying for some major tests so it would have been a struggle to make it through the next day. I did give him money to get me a Cross Purposes tour shirt, which I sported proudly for many years after until it wore out.

1978. Middle America concert in some wonderbread and hot dog town. Band's not getting along very well. 1. Supernaut (ramshackle version with Ozzy talking about "The bees! The fuggin bees!" in between verses)
    2. Am I Going Insane (Radio) (Ozzy is slurring his vocals by this point, Geezer looks unfazed)
    3. Johnny Blade pt. 1 (band breaks up onstage, Tony kicks an amplifier before getting backstage tea)
    4. Johnny Blade (pt. 2) (band reunites after a 90-min break with Bill Ward waxing poetically to the crowd telling them to hold their horses)
    5. Looking for Today (Ominous version played at a grinding slow tempo)
    6. Fairies Wear Boots (The tension makes this version quite blistering with Ozzy peppering in some word salad to the crowd)
    7. The Wizard (Opening harmonica sets the crowd into a deafening roar of cheers. Place has the energy of an EDC festival.)
First part of the set in a five hour night is over.
Part two is more of a grind-it-out, workmanlike rumble through a mix of their catalog.
    8. A National Acrobat (Ward is an octopus with the sticks during this one)
    9. Lord of This World (Bass and guitar parts turns some wide eyed kid in the audience a metal fan for life)
    10. Swinging the Chain (Here's one of our newer ones! Crowd doesn't know what to do. It rules anyways.)
    11. All Moving Parts (Stand Still) (Crowd is standing still.)
    12. Paranoid (A minor earthquake as the casual fans come back from their beers to dance around like assholes cause they recognize the song they drove 200 miles with Jimbo, Bob, and Eugene to go see.)
    13. N.I.B. (Extended version with jamming)
    14. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Firing on all cylinders during this one, kind of a Murphy's Law/ reverse uno card situation)
    15. Children of the Grave (Geezer puts on a showstopper here)
    Encore:
    16. Iron Man (Crowd loses last week's and next week's lunch after drinking a barnyard of beer, while trying to sing along)
    17. War Pigs (Ozzy's back to slurring, band breaks up mid-song to end the night.)

It’s December 24th 1975. Black Sabbath are going back to their roots but doing something rather special. Seeing as we are in the ‘70s and health and safety was for sissies, the concert is taking place inside the Smiths Foundry steelworks in Aston, Birmingham. The stage is set up in front of the blast furnaces and the workers continue to do their jobs throughout Sabbath’s set. In front of a surreal backdrop of chimney towers belching smoke and flame, the band takes to the stage and starts the doomy intro to ‘Black Sabbath’. They play at such punishing volume that the hammering and pounding becomes part of the rhythmic backdrop to their music. The small crowd of 800 lucky punters are treated to...

Kudos to Chris for wanting A National Acrobat, Lord Of This World & Spiral Architect in his set! Three of Sabbath's best tracks in my opinion.
    Mine would be:
    Symptom of the Universe
    Hole in the sky
    A National Acrobat
    Wheels of confusion
    Fairies wear boots
    Behind the wall of sleep
    Black Sabbath
    Spiral Architect
    Lord of this world
    Supernaut
    Megalomania
    Hand of Doom
    Planet Caravan
    Into the void
    Solitude
    N.I.B.
    The Writ
    Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
    Children of the Grave
    Encore:
    War Pigs
    Snow blind
    The Wizard
No Dio/Ian Gillan/Ray Gillan/Tony Martin era tracks, as great as they are. Just cos this set is long enough and I can't imagine Ozzy singing them. And to be fair no one sings Ozzy era Sabbath better than Ozzy.

Some of my predictions for dream sets were wrong for the bands you would do, although I did have a 1972 set list for Sabbath, it can't compete with your ideas. I feel like throwing in a couple of my dream sets that I am guessing won't "make the cut for Pete" 🙂
Wish I had seen 'Tallica with Cliff in 1986
    Fight Fire With Fire
    Master of Puppets
    For Whom The Bell Tolls
    The Four Horsemen
    Creeping Death
    Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
    Leper Messiah
    (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth
    Whiplash
    Trapped Under Ice
    Seek & Destroy
    Encore 1
Breadfan (I know Jason played this, but it's my dream set!)
    Am I Evil
    Encore 2
Crash Course in Brain Surgery (Jason again, and so?)
    Motorbreath
    Damage, Inc.

Oh Pete, you topped me big time. I was kinda assuming we could do it with Ronnie Alice.
If not, Martin and/or Hughes would have to handle the Dio stuff.

My dream set list would be in 1976, in Birmingham. They would bring 21 songs: 3 of each of the 7 albums released by then. First part: 9 songs from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage and Technical Ecstasy (I want to here Dirty Women, Gypsy and You won’t change me)
Second part: 12 songs from the First four albums: all the heavy riff laden songs ( but no Paranoid), including 3 encores (NIB, Symptom of the Universe, Children of the grave).
