I've had custom made saddles and one of my complaints was that the saddlemaker wanted to fit the saddle to a horse without any saddle pad. Saddle makers often don't allow enough room in the gullet for the saddle pad...one of my major complaints over the years. Good video - thank you.

Iv heard that complaint before and while I have never had a saddle made to fit a horse I always reckoned the maker had the pad width and leather already figured into the calculations. I could be wrong. Next time Im around a tree builder Ill ask.

Question. Are dry spots left and right of the withers after a good ride an indicator that the saddle doesn't fit? Also about 95 % of the time when I'm riding I have saddle role to the left making my horn off center from the horse about an inch or so. Is it me or is it the build of the horse? About 5% of the time I occasionally run into a horse that the saddle stays centered or roles to the right. What say you?

      probably a saddle fit issue

I suspect saddle fit issue. It could be tree angle mismatch, one shoulder smaller and more forward, and/or more.

Might be you. Use a different saddle on same horse see what happens. Ride a few different horses in saddles that fit the horse. If you're getting lean most of time it's you.
I've got a good friend and every horse, every saddle goes left. It's her.

To me, saddle / pad fitting have always been a hassle. I’m always guessing - too narrow, too wide, too god dam stupid (me). I use the same saddle on different horses, I guess this is why. If I was rich (or clever) I’ll probably buy a custom saddle. Pat Puckett said that if you do have a custom saddle that fits perfectly your horse, once he’s dead you can bury your saddle with him 😂😂
    Have a good one ☝️

Thats why I have a fleet of saddles, and some horses don't fit any of them

If you are riding horses of similar build and type sometimes you can get away with one saddle.
