Speakers: F. Gregory Gause, III and Kristin Smith Diwan
The United States’ relationship with Saudi Arabia has been a cornerstone of U.S. policy in the Middle East for decades. Despite substantial differences in history, culture, and governance, the two countries have generally agreed on important political and economic issues and have often relied on each other to secure mutual aims. Today the relationship is under strain as fundamental changes in oil markets, regional security, and U.S. priorities at times find the United States and its newly assertive ally in disagreement and the alliance beset by a new sense of mistrust.
On May 18, the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington hosted a panel discussion on the U.S.-Saudi relationship with F. Gregory Gause, III, AGSIW board member, John H. Lindsey ’44 Chair, professor of international affairs, and head of the international affairs department at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.
AGSIW hosted this panel discussion to examine these issues and more.

Between the strength of the USD and Americas technological capabilities...I don't fore see anyone really taking a notable lead against the Americans any time soon. Nothing is for certain, but still very very unlikely.

he is mistaken in saying that " Both USA and Saudi Arabia are combating Salafi extremism"... i mean Saudi arabia is the progenitor of salafism and it is combating only the ones that are against the saudi monarchy. They are funding and encouraging the spread of salafism to other countries.

To all the viewers we can listen to endless analysis and talks by experts but the bottom line is that religion based on sectarianism has played the major part in almost all the Islamic countries and will continue to do so. We are in for major surprises after August 31, 2018, to 2024. One of the most challenging time in KSA's future time will be the year 2019 around the main pilgrimage holy site of Kabba. The black granite monument will be the breaking news item sometime in 2019. One of the Prince who turns 33 will also figure as a major player in the future of KSA and the same Prince upon entering his 39 years will have major health challenges. These experts have come and gone but the behavior of extremist has not changed in 1400 years of Islamic history and will not change in future as well.

An awfully weak Saudi apologist. Merely a rabbit in the hat trick for the untrained eye/view.
