Owned both a M235i MPE & 440i MPE both Catless. N55 sounds better throughout the rev range, there’s no raspy sounds at any point, B58 catless do kinda rasp with MPE. Pops & Bangs sound more crispy on N55’s as well. Other than that B58 is a better engine, and in my opinion sounds more aggressive.
Against the B58 and S58 that’s debatable but it’s definitely an amazing engine out of the box and maybe the best one if you were going to keep it stock
I own both, the b58 sounds more aggressive and has louder spool but the n55 sounds amazing in any rpm range, whereas the b58 can sound tinny and raspy at times both great sounds and great engines nonetheless but I think the n55 sounds slightly better.
To be fair the N55 is better sounding engine without a doubt, I used to have one in my 335i. You get that clearer 6 cylinder sound that takes me back to my E36 M3 Evo. Now I have the B58 in my M240i, and with the VRSF catless DP and stage 2, it sounds mighty even with the rest of the exhaust standard. But for pure pitch and tone, the N55 and S55 sound better.

The torque from the B58 is mighty to say the least. In tuned form you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a turbo charged V8 rather than a straight 6.
I want a m240i so bad bro but I’m thinking about just settling for m235i😅 240 is hard to come by and m235i is in my price range and they are easier to find manual ik they aren’t b58 fast but I think it’ll definitely still be a upgrade from the gti I have now🤷🏽♂️
Yeah bro will still definitely be an upgrade! M235’s are still pretty fast and basically have the same interior so I say go for it man, unless you think you’ll regret not getting a B58 then I’d just be patient for that

M2 n55 is one of BMWs best engines ever made. It has s55 rods, pistons, cams, cast cylinder walls, and dual oil pumps and oil coolers.

I have an N55 and while I do think it sounds better than a B58, I wish it was as easily tunable as the B58
Yeah fr it sucks it’s not, although you can still upgrade the turbo and build the engine a little and make some really good power
