“When Things Go Wrong On Submarines, They Go Wrong Rapidly” Time Running Out For Missing Titanic Sub

- Rescue teams are racing against the breathable air clock after noises were detected from the search area for the missing deep-sea vessel near the wreck site of the Titanic.
The submersible, named Titan, lost communication with tour operators on Sunday while about 435 miles south of St John’s, Newfoundland, during a voyage to the shipwreck off the coast of Canada.
TalkTV’s Ian Collins is joined by retired submarine captain Ryan Ramsey who says “everything is against” the crew “at the moment”.
“When things go wrong on submarines, they go wrong very rapidly.”

That fact that there is no tracking device onboard and occupants are unable to open the hatch from inside tells me this project is insane. Still hoping and praying for their successful rescue in time.
That's because you're a bit of a thickie...
Unless they had a bit of military hardware like an ELF transceiver (not likely at all since all the stations are pretty much decommissioned) or a tether, they can't communicate with the surface. Water blocks most radio transmissions very effectively. All they could use is sound via a transducer, but if the thermal layers disrupt that . . . not talking to the top.
@@SnuffitLabs thanks for this extended explanation of the conditions.
They cannot just open the hatch and swim out. The pressure wouldn't let them do it and they would pretty much die in an instant if they could🫣
If they opened the door from that deep the pressure would kill them, but yes the fact there’s no GPS or tracking device is ridiculous to me
It seems disrespectful for the Titanic to be used almost as a freak show for the highest bidders. 1,500 people lost their lives because of the tragedy, and it's now a grave site. Sadly, it would appear the Titanic has claimed 5 more lives. My prayers go out to the victims and their families.
Or people who visit Auschwitz? Or the 9/11 memorial?
russians have been pillaging the titanic site for decades.
@@CelticSaint Neither of those are graves with dead bodies. They are memorials meant to be visited.
The Titanic should've gone the way of the Edmund Fitzgerald a long time ago. Dives without a government issued license were banned after the bell was recovered and replaced for the memorial, for that exact reason, out of respect for the dead still aboard.
Why do people keep saying this when gravesites are visited every day. It doesnt mean people are disrespecting the titanic by seeing it. Its a fascinating thing to see and was a huge event of the time. As one girl said, people visit Auschwitz all the time in respect of the dead, this is no different.
I hate to be morbid. But they’ve got virtually no chance if they’re sitting on the bottom.

If the vessel is sat on the bottom with no power, then they probably would have succumbed to hypothermia.

No surprise here, the founder described his industry as "obscenely safe" and complained that passenger-vessel regulations held back innovation. Appears all seven methods to surface didn't work out.
Newsweek, "David Lochridge, former OceanGate employee and submersible pilot, filed a lawsuit against the company in 2018, alleging that passengers were being subjected "to potential extreme danger in an experimental submersible" due to "OceanGate's refusal to conduct critical, non-destructive testing of the experimental design of the hull." The suit was later settled out of court.
During the same year, the Manned Underwater Vehicles committee of the Marine Technology Society sent a letter to Rush, warning the CEO that his refusal to allow an outside entity to test the safety of his vessel was ignoring "a critical component in the safeguards that protect all submersible occupants," according to a copy of the letter obtained by The New York Times."

From what has been detailed, the ocean currents at 13,000 feet in depth, are very strong. They are so strong it has pushed and forced a submarine just like this one, in to the propeller of the Titantic where it got stuck temporarily.
From what has been detailed, we learned the ocean visibility at 13,000 feet is O. It's pitch black. The submarine has a special lense that penetrates the dark spectrum of color and produces light however it's wave length is very narrow for visibility.
What that means is, even if they can get a navy submarine down to 13,000 feet within the next 14-20 hours, it is unlikely they will spot the submarine especially if the ocean floor is throwing up particles and debris from the pure mass of pressure down there.
People need to really be sensible about this they pretty much aren’t surviving this they’d be lucky if they find the bodies period .

What alot of the news is forgetting is that people in a panic consume far more oxygen. The majority of the passengers are inexperienced and likely not accustomed to hardship. As hard as it is to say let's be realistic here, this was a disaster from the start, the company that owns the craft, the choices made by people, it's not known where it is down there, people in an enclosed space in the dark, panicking as they know their time is running out using more air as more panic sets in worse. Best case scenario ( probably the only one that they will survive) is that the vehicle is found on the surface with in the next 12 hours. I say 12 hours because they still need to get to it , get it on board a ship and open it up. all that will take time. sadly I feel the most humane outcome for the 5 on board is that the sub had a breach at depth and they all died instantly. There is no way they are going to be able to bring that sub to the surface from that depth within the time frame given. they don't have the equipment required because it hasn't been needed before. Lack of oversight in design of this sub is a major issue here. There is a reason why vehicles of all kind need to meet certain safety standards. This sub, knowing what if was expected to do, should have had stringent standards to meet and redundancy built into its systems, at least have a sonar "Pinger" you could activate so it could be located if all other systems went down. This has nothing to do with the US or Royal Navy. They chose to go down on a submersible that clearly wasn’t fit for purpose. People should remember this incident when Elon Musk is selling tickets to Mars in that flying grain silo (Starship)
I would think 2 miles down (12,000 feet) is almost impossible for some sort of rescue. I know there are deep diving rescue submersibles but even the deepest rescue was at a depth of approximately 1,500 feet (still deep but nothing compared to the Titanic’s resting depth).
They had all the money in the world to rent industrial research sub which would be at least 1000 times safer than this floating coffin.
What..?
Its not a submarine, it's a submersible, huge, gigantic difference in the two
God bless all those on board and their families
When things go wrong they go very wrong FAST.!When things go right they go wrong VERY FAST! Murphys Law?🇨🇦😱
I know, I'll design a sub that's not proven or tested. Make no fail safes and have the hatch bolted on from the outside so even if it surfaced I couldn't get out. Also make it controlled by a Bluetooth PS5 remote. I mean what could go wrong.
However this situation turns out perhaps something good will come out of it. That is no more diving on what is basically a grave site. Plus a world agreement that deep diving vessels built for sight seeing and adventures must be built to higher and more stringent specifications
The gentleman who changed his mind and asked for his money back must be thanking God Almighty that he trusted his gut feeling that going was a bad idea...Im praying for the 5 who went and those trying to rescue them...🙏🙏🙏
I bet he is. He must be the most fortunate human on Earth at the moment.
Why WOULDN’T these submariners/Titanic disaster looky-loos anticipate that the dangers would come to this? It isn’t exactly a ride on Disneyland’s Finding Nemo Submarine Ride!
Space by comparison is simple, you only have to deal with MINUTE pressures, Not "TONNS" PER SQUARE"::
ONE MANS CALAMITY IS ANOTHER MANS JOY.
Very unfortunate, really hope these guys gets found soon
If I had they type of money would rather take my chances taking a tourist trip up into space then a trip down to see the rusted out remains of a ship miles down at the bottom of the sea. What can you really see from that thing anyway that you can not better from a drone sub?
if any of the souls perish, does that make the air supply go further or ..... does that just make the air they breathe deadly with a dead person aboard?
Good question. Because it's the cold that kills before the air runs out. It maybe that some are dead and the living are wearing the clothes of the dead to stay alive. This means the air will last longer. Maybe there is longer to find someone alive in that situation.
1 or more has to commit suicide,, this will extend the time,, has been done before in mines and subs,, with success !!!
body at 2 degrees will be ok for a few days
@@robertlee6338 Surely. But how would one top oneself in this scenario? Asking someone else to repeatedly smash your skull against the hull? Or strangling with a piece of clothing.
@@Chris-xo1oh Would be interesting if they magically recovered the sub, to find 1 survivor and a bloody mess because they did a survival of the fittest kind of thing lol, that would be a complete shitshow!
Man, I hate getting a MRI. Let alone being stuck in a cylinder at the bottom of the sea !
Yep thats what im saying, even if they know where it is and equipment is already in place it will take much longer to get that thing to the surface than what oxygen time the ocupants have left !!!, the big thing here is its still not even known where it might be at this time, i can already say RIP to the ocupants because i know my gut feelings and common sence 👀, in a diff situation hope is always good but in this one theres non at this point in time due to the oxygen factor sadly because logic tells me a different story 🥺
Common sence lol
There needs to be an emergency release to open this vessel from the inside The back-up release in case that one fails. There are many things to learn from this voyage.
Nothing can be risked opening at that depth. That's suicide
@@GamerFrisco I don't mean open wall underwater 💙 I mean they need to be able to open the vessel if they surface
@@GamerFrisco I mean I'd rather commit suicide and be killed in an instant than have to suffer for several days with absolutely zero chance of being saved.
@@rhondaunger1228 Thought you might. Went with the other interpretation tho
OceanGate can expect the UK to be throwing a lawsuit in their direction regardless of whether they're found safely or not. Letting tourists on into a vessel they know full well has had flaws called out and been under investigation before, to still ignore those precautions and deciding to go through with it instead of refusing to let people use the tours due to so many health risks and safety concerns is incompetent, irresponsible and plain stupid. It may cost innocent lives. I hope the families will be compensated back the full amount of each ticket price and more at the end of this.
They all had to sign a waiver before going on this trip, I dont see any legal ramification. The waiver expressed several times that you could die on this trip
@@pringle920indeed
@@pringle920is there any way of reading this waiver?
@@evieiscool555 I believe it was CNN that actually read the waiver on tv. I'm pretty sure it's easy to find
I wouldn't ride a rollercoaster if I had to sign a waiver saying I might die!

There’s no shot - literally made a $20 bet to a friend about this
Zero respect for people willing to pay to throw their lives away on a completely risky and unsafe submersible. Stupid is as stupid does.
So zero respect for skydivers, motorcyclists, and anyone else that does anything remotely risky... Stupid is as stupid comments on CZcams...
If we had that attitude we would never have come down from the trees LOL
IF.....IF this ceo is rescued, he needs to go to prison for endangering other peoples lives and his company shut down.
Yes you're right, just like every single person rescued from a fire, all go to jail!!!!
@@mymodel6well if one of those people saved set the building on fire by playing with matches then yes they'd go to jail. This guy knew the risks and still allowed tourists on board.
@@All-Outta-Bubblegum The tourists knew the risks as well, they signed the waiver...
@@All-Outta-Bubblegum They also knew the risks, it was explained to them at length and they signed a waiver to acknowledge that...
They say every 4th person who climbs Mt Everest will die on the mountain. I wonder what the odds are for visiting the Titanic?
Considering this has happened before in 2000 where they got trapped in between the wreck from a current on a submersible it’s likely they are trapped.
...this isn't a submarine...it's a submersible.
Wow! This should be top comment..!
😂
this has been done so many times, not specifically to the titanic, but deep sea diving and this is the first real accident by private companies, I would argue it has been fairly safe
What, you mean you're not jumping on the 'Well they're rich so they deserve it' bandwagon lol
This is the second incident with the company getting a sub stuck. If I recall correctly, the last time it happened was around 20 years ago and the incident didn't take any lives. I agree, it has been incredibly safe up to this point. With everything, improvement happens with problematic occurrences, this will push not just OceanGate, but many other companies to improve on their vessels and make it easier to retrieve without external assistance. Unfortunately the flaws of the sub may cost these men their lives.
The panic and terror would be *unimaginable*!
According to reports, the sub lost contact around 1 hour 45 mins into descent. Not enough time to reah the bottom. So a snag on the ship can not be the cause if this is true.
It’s ok, all the adults in the room have long accepted their death. We really don’t care since it will never affect the average person anyway. If anything it irritates the average person knowing they can just throw away 250k on such a thing
One way ticket 🌬️
Why didn't it have an emergency transponder?
A transponder transmitting what exactly Mr Brainbox..?
Time running outs are great
Do they have footage of this exact crew of BILLIONAIRES being bolted in??? I see the other trips where you see the crew being bolted in... Is there footage of THESE people in particular being bolted in?
Zzzzz yes and the earth is flat blah blah blah...
@@mymodel6, yes the conspiracy theory’s have started, twats
For the sake of the families I doubt that footage will ever be released.
