  • 10 years on from its introduction to the market, Yamaha's much-loved, naked headbanger has proven a huge success for the Japanese brand, with over 200,000 units sold globally. And if the brilliance of this new, fourth generation MT is anything to go by, they'll have a load more sales to celebrate in the near future. We headed to Lanzarote to put it through its paces.

    That is why I will get the SP again - for spirited riding up and down some serious mountain passes and on the race track, it will again be precise / predictable in its cornering behaviour, no "wobbles" - and yes, the S22 rubber is helping matters (8 sets so far) and with the new gen the S23 will even be better (a grin under the helmet every time you press on...) 😁✌💯🏁

    Great review of all the details ! So it only took Yamaha 7 years to fix all the niggles. Last fixes was the bad seat, the small display and ugly headlight. I will test ride it this summer. Looking forward to some better front-end feel and breaks. Also hope the suspension now finally is sorted. My prediction for testride is that the engine will be lacking now when the rest of the bike has been worked on in so many iterations.

      You may find it’s that wallowing rear, unless you set the suspension up or go for the SP model which will have a decent rear shock

    I have a few shops who have me a top of the list. Cant wait. My 22 SP was amazing but had to sell to move across the nation. If my hips n back were better I would wait for the R9. but I'll take the MT 09SP throw the Fairings on it and call it a day.

    Great review on a great bike ! I own a 2017 R1 and a 2018 MT10 , but I’ve always said this is the best road engine they’ve made since the 1980’s XS850 , it has ample power for the road and bags of torque = fun and smiles . It’s been perfected with the electronics pack and chassis tweaks . One small criticism MR Yamaha why is that rear shock softer , the previous model was over sprung and under damped . Fit a great rear shock and this will be 100% my next addition ., now My old 2007 FZ1 -s is going out to pasture …

    How's the vibration at the handlebar at various RPM? I rode an older MT that had high frequency buzzy vibration. Maybe it was a lemon?

    I have watched so many videos about this bike and somehow this is the first time I'm hearing that they made the seat slightly less wide, which makes me so happy. That's the one thing I love about my Kawi Z400 that I always hate just a bit when I sit on other bikes (23 MT-09 included) is that I feel like the seats are too wide. Hopefully those 12mm will make a difference.

    Great review of a bike I'm looking forward to riding. However, I would really appreciate a review based more on real world, UK road riding i.e. not great surfaces; not doing wheelies everywhere (the legal implications of which can be significant) as it seems that almost everyone who goes on these launches goes straight into mental mode, which is great, but not how many will ride them.

    How is this bike compared to the Triumph 765RS?

  • @witnesspropro
    @witnesspropro Před 4 měsíci

    I always think the horn button should be bigger on bikes. Most people can't find it when riding and arguably it could prevent an accident or save your life. Revbombs don't work as most other road users are oblivious to their meaning.

    I don't understand the trend to make headlights smaller and smaller... Sure, modern tech needs less space etc... But stylewise it just looks like Quasimodo, or a pug smashed against a wall..

    • @SirMountainpass
      @SirMountainpass Před 5 měsíci +1

      With your grin under the helmet when riding up and down a serious mountain pass you certainly will not think about the "small headlight" 😁✌🏁

    One question for Yamaha. After you purchase the MT-09, how much extra is it to get that HORRIBLE baby blue removed?

  • @JoeStanek-vu7rl
    @JoeStanek-vu7rl Před 5 měsíci

    Why would anyone ever want to shift up while decelerating? The headlight is far uglier than gen 3, tank is way too wide and if I wanted an agressive riding position I would have kept my Aprilia RSVR.

    • @LeeTillbury

      Cheers up mate!😂

    • @nicksokolis6343
      @nicksokolis6343 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Because you might want to slow down but and relax from going quickly in high revs to slow with low revs. The headlight looks better to me. The tank is just about right when I saton it. The riding position is not aggressive, it's sportier than before but less sporty than the ST R and way less than a superbike.

    I'm tired of all these naked reviews that completely forget the Indian FTR 1200 . My Indian runs circles around a MT-09 and a Z-900 and many litre bikes... Where's the love? Just look into the super hooligan series to see it spanking KTM's, Ducati's, Harleys, etc. Plus, it is by far the best looking naked out there right now!

    • @rspraveenkg
      @rspraveenkg Před 3 měsíci +5

      FTR is a good bike but too heavy for a small or medium sized guy, it is 100lb heavier than MT09 and not as nimble
