    Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy”!
Jeff Ament’s use of the 12-string bass 👌🏼 It played such a huge part of that song, but listening to the instrumental version only, the bass actually takes precedence over McCready & Gossard’s guitar in the verses.
I love that RHCP’s “Give It Away” made the list, but for me, John Frusciante’s guitar during the verses is what I love most about it. (Literally the opposite of what I said above re: Jeremy 😅) _So simple, yet so melodic!_ I could listen to the instrumental version on repeat all day.

The modest, simple yet imaginative and effective (imo) bassline from Walk On The Ocean by Toad The Wet Sprocket made me really notice this song ('93 or '94), especially during the verses; it gets more or less drowned out during the chorus.

The greatest bass lines are sublime. They are sensed more than overtly heard. Two excellent examples are "What's Going On" - Marvin Gaye - James Jamerson on bass and "Something"- The Beatles- Paul McCartney on bass. With both of those lines, the creativity is off the scale! I Want You Back by the Jackson Five is another good example with the bass line written and played by a sax player!

Pear Jam also borrows heavily from Fleetwood Mac's The Chain.
The breakdown at the end of Corduroy is even in the same key as the Fleetwood Mac song, and the bass line from The Chain could be cut and pasted right in at roughly the three minute eighteen second mark of Corduroy.

Definitely enjoyed this list! I've been thinking about this on my own for quite a while, so here are some that you didn't mention that definitely could've been included.... 1. Evil - Interpol. (pretty much the first one that comes ot mind when I think of basslines). 2. Thundercat - Them Changes. (one of the best bassists in the game today). 3. Green Day - Longview. (the bassline that put them on the map). 4. Yarbrough & Peoples - Don't Stop The Music. (it gets no funkier, and the bassline drives the entire song). 5. Herbie Hancock - Bring Down the BIrds (If you.don't agree, ask Deee-Lite what they think :). 6. Stevie Wonder.- Superstition (similar to I WIsh, but I like it better). Quick note: At some points in your list a line gets blurred between bass lines and bass performances. otherwise you definitely would've included. 7. White Stripes - Seven Nation Army. (the bassline that filled a thousand stadiums). 8. Earth Wind and Fire - Let's Groove Tonight (you got make a top 20 of just funk alone, but to your credit you included a bunch of different genres). Those are the first ones that come to mind, but I've sure I'll have more. I'm a definite basshead! :). Have a good weekend and thanks for the great list!
