    Bad plan, Romero and Van de Ven were going to spank Watkins and Bailey all day long

      Mate Bailey ripped apart Man City... the issue was the service was inconsistent and inaccurate because of how well you dominated the midfield and pressed the backline.

      Don't be an idiot 'didn't affect the game at all' you had 0 shots in the first half. Even after the second goal we changed formation and were starting to come back at you. You struggle to keep a clean sheet at the best of times... of course it changed the game.

    Insane to say Tottenham didn't play well 😂 Dominated the entire match villa had zero good chances and were dogged all afternoon

      @onilink888 Před 3 měsíci +2

      I'm a Spurs fan. We played well. In the second half. First half we did nothing and had a single shot on target. That's not acceptable, and Spurs have been terrible in first halves for months now.

    • @horsebox5138
      @horsebox5138 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @onilink888 Incorrect im afraid. Villa and zero good chances and we were knocking on the door the entire first half. Do you think if city go into the changing room at half time with 75% possession and all the momentum, but no goals, they are shitting themselves worrying that they won't win? No, it's the opposite, they know they will break down the opposing team in due time if they keep playing their football and dominating the match, it's the same with us and that's exactly what happened.

    • @onilink888
      @onilink888 Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@horsebox5138 I don't think you know what knocking on the door means if you think
      a) a single chance in one half with that chance having in a non-existent xG
      b) half-hearted passes from us giving away possession to them in dangerous areas mostly occurring in the fist half.
      c) most of their interceptions occurring in the first half
      among a litany of other problems we displayed in that game that were present in games prior is "knocking on the door". Possession means nothing if you don't actually do anything with it, sorry.
      What you're saying has no bearing on reality because none of it was born out by any stat aggregator out there - our ratings were abysmal in that first half. What's more, your narrative doesn't make a lick of sense because we were turned over by Wolves fairly easily. On top of that, you're ignoring the reality where Spurs have been utterly trash at breaking down low blocks since Poch.
      The reason we broke Villa so easily is because they were obviously tired + a red card. We play a disciplined low block like Wolves and we probably lose 60% of the time. As we historically have.
      Why do you think we're after extremely technical dribblers like Williams or Neto? We've never had that profile of players in our forwards, which is necessary in properly breaking down disciplined back lines.
      If Villa were playing fresh and Emery didn't change their shape from a strict back 5 in the second half for whatever reason, there's a good chance we don't win that game. The very fact that you're comparing us to City, who have that very profile of players in your Fodens, Grealishes, etc. and who've shown themselves very capable of breaking down low blocks over more than half a decade tells me you're absolutely blinded by bias.
      EDIT:
      P.S.: Just for factual accuracy, we had 71% possession in the first half and 69% in the second.

    Good analysis. I noticed the villa players poor body language for Sons goal. Don’t think we played great attacking wise. Few overhit passes from Son and Kulu. Happy with the win but we will hit someone for 6 if and when it clicks . There a loads of goal in the team due to the way Ange set us up. With better attacking players and Werner johnson improving next season a few teams will suffer. Good to see Dragusin Werner and Johnson play well and get more confident in the shirt.
    Emery probably feared us more than he need to but with Europe on his mind his cautious methods gave us enough time to quiten the crowd and take the lead.
    4th is still in the balance with 10 games left.

      Really balanced take, and I agree you're a really dangerous team and can only see it growing with a proper pre-season. I think 4th is in the balance, but I think you may kick on more than us over the summer.

    Fair to say you think Villa imploded 😂
    I put our win down to Villa's high line and them being tired. I always fancied us if we were in the game from 70min onwards. But Villa's high line, against our pace with Son and Johnson is Russian Roulette defending.
    And that high line broke the game with our first goal. The game was done after that.

    Its hard to call ( who gets that 4th spot)
    Villa have the quality to bounce back and sit 4th right now so you have to favour them.
    Tottenham if they can get their best 11 out are the better side.Both sides will drop points between now and seasons end .
    Ill go with Villa unlessi Spurs do manage to get the best 11 on the field for the last 11 games ,I think they get it .
    Fascinating battle though

    • @MindSurf248
      @MindSurf248 Před 2 měsíci

      I think style match up wise Spurs have more ways to hurt Villa than vice versa. But I think Villa have a better defence and are better against a low block. Teams have started pressing Villa hard and cutting out passing triangles, they are trying to figure it out and introduce more of a threat from the long ball to mix it up.... but it's inconsistent. But if you're not on it with your press you've just gifted them exactly what they want... an open field to pass through.
      Teams have realised that Spurs can't break down low-blocks that well and are vulnerable on the counter. But Spurs' fitness and intensity is insane, so if they run hard enough they clean up in the last 25 minutes of games. That style does come with injuries though.
      I suspect that Spurs will win more games but also lose more. As a Villa fan my money is probably on Spurs with 1 point in it.

    Emery banking on winning duels against Romero and Van de Ven was a huge mistake, one is a world cup wiinning centerback that was called the world best defender by Messi and the other was a big 6 foot 4 speed monster that is the fastest player in the premier league. The only attacker that can maybe beat these 2 is Haaland. Emery probably thought this will work because in when they play Tottenham early this season Davies and Emerson couldnt deal with Watkins and Bailey at all.

      They set up for that to be the case. I think with your playing style, our injuries and tired legs he decided to concede the midfield, pack the defence and get good service into the front 2 or get the midfield running with ball at feet. Evidently it didn't work.

    Tottenham were clearly significantly better even first half. You get rid of the inconsistent calling of fouls and Spurs likely take the lead first half. If the ref doesn't whistle for an absurd "foul" on Bissouma late in the half, Spurs have a 4 on 3 or whatever it was and get rid of the other soft fouls (and call the ones you should've on Villa), Villa have even less of the ball. It was the pure dominance of the ball and in the press that led villa to fall apart early in the second half. They'd already been run absolutely ragged in the first and that's precisely why they fell apart so easily after the goal. They had to work very very hard to even stay in the first half and it caught up to them. They realized they had little effect on the ball, or in beating the press or in transition and they were dog tired. What do you do at that point? Give up or play dirty. Villa tried being dirty but when that failed, they gave up. Pure dominance from Spurs, no question. Were the better team from the jump and wore Villa down until they were absolutely thumped

      Possession for possession's sake means fuck all. You actually need to do something with it. In that first half, you can't say that a possession-based attacking side getting one single attempt on goal against an opposition that was clearly tired because of a midweek game is a good performance.
      Spurs have been shit in first halves for literal months now. Take off your coys-tinted glasses for a second.
