By far the biggest improvement for Portugal over the years has been: squad depth. Never in our history we were able to easily replace every single starting player like this time around. Otávio got injured and was dropped - in the past this would have caused great concern, whereas this year we just replaced him with Matheus Nunes and moved on. This also allowed Martinez wisely to add two super-subs to the squad: Pedro Neto and Francisco Conceição - neither will be a starter but both can cause immediate impact when coming in on tough games.

NIce review...altough there is one player you are really sleeping on, Francisco Conceição. Bernardo just does not match well with Bruno Fernandes on the pitch and he's usually not so good for us. If he has the balls for it, Martinez should put Conceição on the right wing, he is savage and can be one of the surprise stars on the tournament.

My guess is that Enzo will play in the pivot role instead of Caicedo , Caicedo will slot in the ¨Ndidi¨ role that Leicester played this season .

Do we really want to lose James’ attacking prowess? I doubt! You’ll more likely see Colwill out wide to play in midfield, Enzo and Caicedo staying close in midfield and James being allowed to go up and down that right flank to overlap. Maresca will definitely adapt his tactics for sure. I imagine that you’d see those flanks take turns at times at tucking into midfield depending on the team. Let’s wait and see.

Goalkeeper, petrovic is chelseas 3rd best ballplaying goalkeeper, and has been horrible in all messurements since joining (post shotxg, cross collectingz sweeping and distrubution) In possession Defense: utilizing james as a rcb is just a waste of his greatest ability which is SCA and goals in the final 1/3rd Midfield: cucurella inverting worked well next to conor and caicedo for pochettino, but it stills makes enzo less involved Attack: I can see palmer utilized as an 8, but its just a waste of talent, both nkunku and palmer would be most productive as inside forwards next to jackson- who is world class at turning/reciving to feet (hugly important for this setup) My sollution in possession is to drop a midfielder in between the cbs - creating a dynamic 3-2 / 2-3 system that he approves, while giving both enzo and caicedo more freedom further forward New gk (kepa) Fofana - Lavia - colwill Caicedo - enzo James - palmer - nkunku - chillwell Jackson It plays to all players strenghts, and if lavia aint that great when returning that role would be enzos, while you add a Chukwuemeka/palmer/paez etc to the midfield mix and utilize sterling/madueke on the right

Can certainly see similarities between this set up and Poch's last few weeks ... Cucurella in midfield with Ciacedo is very strong , Chelsea only really lack a top end CB , up front honestly dont think any team as particularly better strength in depth.

Actually, his tactics are different from Pochetino's tactics recently,

I think it was always gonna be tough to fit both Enzo and Caicedo in line up together, they are too similar, neither are true DM's, both more box to box, neither physical destroyers but both struggle creatively. I think you really need a Lavia at the base next to Cucurella or James, whoever ends up inverting in to midfield. With Lavia you get someone more physical and more positionally disciplined, doesn't roam as much as Caicedo and then end up getting caught out on transition. Then maybe Enzo and Caicedo can play as two 8's in possession but depends if the plan is to play Palmer more centrally or out on right, might get a bit congested centrallyif he plays on right as he's not a touchline winger. With Maresca, Chelsea probably need a new GK that is far better with his feet. Also would love to see Zirkzee or Sesko at Chelsea, feel like they would work really well in Maresca's system.

I thought Enzo in the advanced 8 position for Chelsea didn't really work out last season. I think he's main strength is creativity from deep. I'd swap him and Caicedo around, Enzo deep can switch play from one side to another finding the wide wingers, or can find the eights in the pockets. Cucurella should be decent enough cover next to Enzo along with the back 3 and I think Caicedo pressing from the front coupled with his superb ball carrying and dribbling would offer something unique from the 8 position. I might be wrong though, I'm not a Chelsea fan but that's just my thoughts on it😅
