Knxwledge has a method to his madness though, his hi hats just have layers and each ones very specific patterns when you pick them apart. I just love how well each element blends over one another in his beats, and it all just makes sense especially the more you listen to it.

@@mhaluuun93 Knxwledge is great producer one my favorites but he not Madlib . He's not even close Madlibs ear for loops is not explainable . Put it this way if dilla was alive who would we want dilla to battle ? It would be the guy he did a whole album with it would be ...madlib. Madlibs catalog alone puts him in a different class . If alchemist turned down the battle when madlib reached out that says a lot . I'm always uncomfortable with people just throwing anybody in the ring with the OGs .

I found a tambourine I really like and have been using that with my hats lately so it adds another velocity as well as timbre. I got the idea from a VSBs Dilla inspired tutorial which, like this one, also advises against over quantizing. Thanks Jay--as always!

Knowledge vs JFilth? Would you ever participate in a beat battle? I seen the Verzuz ones produced by Timbaland and Swizz but that was friendly just playing their classics. But also seen 3 on Instagram where the artist bring head bangers show casing unpredictabllity. If you did one it be amazing because your beats have a dilla inspiration in them that's needed today. Now since I only use the MPC and just use the pc to record into what I did to get that kind of effect is to make sure I don't hit the full note option so depending on how hard I hit the pad the louder or softer it will become. Now to add even more effect to this you can put that same sound on four different pads and change the attack and delay features on each pad so along with the pressure that you hit the keys the start and end points become unpredictable but still in synch with the beat you're matching it up to. But you probably already have done this. Great video. 👍

the trick is getting that slightly off timing but making the actual 2 bar loop or whatever seamless
