Looks as good as new, nice fix!
Job well done. Nice one Scott.
Good job, but long term DC on the voice coil worries me a lot! Too much room for operator error. When I need to push the cone up, I take the speaker out of the enclosure and pack same height expanded polystyrene squares symmetrically between the underside of the cone and the chassis arms. I have also used cotton wool balls in the past, but the polystyrene guarantees a symmetrical lift.
Yeah that's why I commented a lot about minimising the usage of voltage as much as possible, and keeping the time as short as possible and current as low as needed.
Im interested in the glue
My father used to repair Tannoy speakers, they used a rubber contact adhesive (Bostik) to bond the surrounds to the cone and frame. It has the advantage that you don't have to work quite so quickly to get the surround fitted before the glue dries.
..... Astute solution, well done Mate. Excellent.
Had the same happen to my 9. CM. I removed the gasket on the outside as well which helped the cone sit at a similar spot as the OEM surround.
18:20 reeeoooow! :D
Just checked the speakers on my workshop (25yr old) SA-PM37MD system......and one section of one of the sub-woofer rubbers is deffo degrading, getting flaky/breaking down to dust on the surface. Should last a few more years yet before it's gone I am guessing.
ihave a few of those 9.CS there good speakersyou can buy genuine speaker surrounds for $5.80
Hi Bro! I want to buy a 12" speaker but I have no idea what brand to choose that will really do the job.I want to put it in a built-in speaker and the goal is power handling. Can you help me?
Nice job on bringing the speakers back to life! I just did some 90's sonys recently. Do you think leaving that little bit of rubber on there will alter the Thiele-Small parameters much? Maybe drop Fs and raise Mms. Probably not noticeable?
Top end maybe affected, slightly extra weight to the cone?......but I guess would be hardly noticeable given the nice job done.
@@IanScottJohnston Yes I agree - any differences might just be measurable, but probably not noticeable. The compliance of the new versus the old rubber surrounds will in any case be different, simply due to ageing.
Whoow, that part with the knife was pretty scarry. 😱Nice job. Sound test?

Something else: You make interesting and succesful ending videos but your personal photo in the thumbnail always gives the impression that it was not succesful, not good. Especially when the thumbnail is scaled smaller the expression on your face looks very negative. I think it is because of the shadows on your face. I think that is the reason people don't click on your videos. You deserve more clicks. Maybe it is a good idea to change it with a better, frontal taken (without shadows) positive looking photo. Hopefully you understand what I mean, just want to help and not a single evil thought that triggers this.
