Just turned 63. Thinking of semi retirement. Tired of the 4 hour a day commute. Missing out on life. Looking into working part-time while taking my S.S benefits. Tomorrow is not promised.

A 4-hour commute is a time killer. I can see where it can be draining. I can understand why you'd want to consider semi retirement.

It depends on your circumstances, but most people take it at 62 and perhaps many shouldn't. Given the average life span most people should take SS when they reach their designated retirement date and not wait until 70.

There are pros and cons for taking Social Security early or waiting until later. As you mentioned, it does depend on a person's circumstances.

@@Over50tv I am trying to politely say that many people are choosing to retire at 62 but they are forgoing a lot of future income by doing so. Financially, most of these people should have waited until they reach their designated age to recieve full SS. According to a financial planning video, going beyond this designated age and the average human span results in less SS paid out over the average person's life even when receiving more SS income per month. So, ideally you should strive to revive SS at your full benefits age. Then again a person's health or circumstances my dictate receiving SS before or after the persons full benefit age. After All, life has no quarrentees.
