ROYAL BLOOD - LIGHTS OUT Drum Cover (with transcription / sheet music)

- Cover #144. It's always a blast to rock out to Royal Blood, and as it's one of the most frequently requested bands I figured I'd do another one. It's been a couple of years since the last!
This tune features some great, creative grooves that stay quite repetitive throughout the different sections, which not only support the music fantastically, but therefore also makes it a great tune to practice grooving and consistency to. The choruses have a whole lot of continuous bass drums on the e's and a's (sixteenth note up-beats), which also can be a big challenge to get used to! Lots of things from learn from this one.
Once again, you guys absolutely rocked this week's #GuessThatGroove. You outperformed the last video with a whoppin' 75 people guessing this correctly. You guys are awesome!! I might have to try and make this even trickier in the future, haha!
Also, the original track is mixed A LOT quieter in this video compared to how I usually do it. What's your preference!?

Yeah, maybe not a bad idea Duffy! I should make a poll in the future whether people prefer "drums only" or "very quiet track"-versions the best! Drums only are fun, but when the track is quiet, perhaps even quieter than this, it's easier to follow along exactly where you are at in the track. The important part is that everything is clear and easy to hear if you'd do it for the educational purpose!
If people want to hear the song they can go listen to the song.

@@maxadrums yeah I kinda do(It can be lower but I wanna hear drums lol) . I love the sounds you can capture. Try experimenting with the song panned right a bit or louder in the right channel. Idk looking for a compromise. Keep your great work.

Hot damn, you can really catch the brightness difference between the Pure Alloy and Foundry cymbals. Lol. It's got a nice shimmer to it. Great job on the cover, I like the mix however it works for you, bruv. ;)
Haha, yeah you sure do! It's slightly unfair though, the Pure Alloy is a bit closer and more at the angle of the overhead, I should do a comparison sometime! But you definitely hear what the differences are all about :)

can you make a lesson on how to make a Transcription? I really want to make my own transcriptions too but I have no Idea on how to do it or what software to use to record my drum beats and convert it to transcriptions.

First you've got to be able to read, and being able to write by hand is a good thing as well. If you want to record to convert to a transcription, you'd need an electronic kit!

@@maxadrums i can read drum notation already, but i'm not yet a fast reader, I really want to know how to arrange drum parts, as well as what software is needed to use on making transcriptions. 😊 This will be really helpful. I am teaching drums, so I want to give my students drum notations that i made. Even if its basic beats, fills and exercises.

Max! Your toms sound killer. Any tuning tips? Do you tune to a certain key?
Hey thank you so much! And not really, sorry! I just tune to a pitch that I like, where I feel the drum sounds the way I want. I often tune to the songs (not like, in the same key - but to what I find sound good)..Tip would just be playing around with tuning, and the top/bottom combination. One head tighter, or both equally tight. Check out what it does to the sound!

Maximiliam Andersson that’s a difficult one, I’d say in the middle. Somewhere where the drums are loud enough to stand out and show off your playing while the track doesn’t feel drowned out like it isn’t really there. Hard really as it’s not easy to take the drums out a track.
