- For a short time in the late 1980's and early 1990's, Donald Trump owned an airline. In 1989, Trump raised $365 million to purchase the Eastern Shuttle, which provided business travelers with quick flights between New York, Boston, and Washington. Within 18 months, the airline lost over $125 million, and by 1992, Trump decided it was time to walk away. Trump Shuttle created over 1,000 jobs, many of which were filled by Eastern Airlines employees who were out of work due to a labor strike. We talked to three former employees of Trump Shuttle.

I was a travel agent then and this stupid video missed the main reason the Trump Shuttle failed. He rebranded it as a luxury airline, expensive interiors and higher prices. Airline customers shop on cost, I sold hundreds of Pan Am Shuttle tickets and maybe one or two Trump Air. It was a joke.

Eastern was one of my favorites to travel growing up used it a lot between the UK , the US and the Caribbean , they had great things for children , those were the days when flying was the best . It is now used for charter purposes

It ended up that Eastern Airlines started the air shuttle between Washington National -New York LaGuardia and Boston Logan and back.Every hour on the hour somewhere around 1970 .
Then when Pan-Am first got domestic flights they started doing the same thing on the half-hour.
By the late 1970s BOTH airlines were making money on the shuttle but losing so much money on other aspects that the Northeast Shuttle was not able to save it. In the end, they both folded.
He remains to this day the ONLY man to lose money on the Northeast Shuttle
