I brought my friend, who only had British reserve tanks, into a match where I was using the Tortoise once. He proceeded to flank an American tank (maybe an M48) and killed it using an A13 Mk I while I disabled its cannon and kept it distracted. I also watched another friend beat an Fw-190 in a dogfight using a Shackleton, and I was amazed by what I had just witnessed. I had also been flying a Shackleton, and the Fw-190 had been chasing us. My friend unexpectedly turned around to engage the Fw-190, and in my haste to turn around and help, I snapped my wings, so I watched the dogfight in spectator view.
There certainly are some very interesting moments in this game when you play with friends.

The more you play "serious" the more you rage that's what I learned from my CoD and WoT time.
After 8 years of WoT I switched to WT and I recently got the Leo 2A5 and for me even alone it's fun to play :) I love the sounds and graphics and yeah.
Ofc it would be way funnier if I had some people to play with but since I am very busy I just play a few rounds on some randoms days

  • @moomoo7706

The view that playing low tier stuff is a "waste of time" was something I've only really seen in War Thunder. For example, in World of Tanks this is less of a problem, with quite a few people going down to low tiers to help out new people which usually leads to them staying longer. Perhaps it is the nature of the games being different, but in WoT it seems to be easier to find people willing to go down to lower tiers and help new players while it is less common in War Thunder.
My personal experience of this was me stumbling across a group of people in a WoT clan who took me under their wing and taught me tips and tricks to get better which led to me doing the same with other new players (most of which stuck around to play for a good while)
Meanwhile in War Thunder I struggled to find a group similar to what I had in WoT. I ended up playing with some of my WoT friends that also played War Thunder until I found my current squadron.

I recently got back into War Thunder after a couple of years of not playing. I played the game prior to 2013, but it never really had my interest till ground came out and I got hooked. I had fun grinding out tanks back then, got up to the Tiger IIs before life events made me unable to play. After that though when I came back the game had changed a lot, the infamous grind was a thing and modern vehicles and ammo started being added, and going back to my previous line up and applying my previous mindset led me to quickly getting burnt out and feeling like I didn't know the game anymore. So I had stopped playing for a years and decided to pick it back up for the Tog event, cause who doesn't love the Tog, and at least I could say I have it even if I don't play it much after the event. After I got it though I started having fun, like a lot of fun, even if I was on the losing team. The British line wasn't my cup of tea (pun intended) before, but now I love the Firefly and the Comet, and I'm having a ball playing and not really worrying about doing too well or grinding out a higher rank vehicle, and the game is actually enjoyable.

It could be argued the 'need to get to top tier' for new players is a problem with the game's advertising. Many of the ads out there primarily feature MBTs and F16s/Mig29s. This creates the illusion in new players that they 'need' to get to high br to experience the game 'as advertised'.

1:37 God yes. I'm grinding because that's what happens when you play, but I'll stay on a lineup of a certain BR *long* after I have a higher lineup built. That's the point where playing becomes fun! You've mastered the vehicles in your "current" lineup, likely spaded most or all of them (the ones you actually play at least), you are very familiar with the maps that always show up at that BR, and you're probably at a point where you are competitive on your team and can help them win matches. *That* is when WT is fun and satisfying. The "grind" is the shitty part you have to go through to get to that. Don't rush to grind the next BR.

funny how I was frustrated with the grind yesterday and now this dropped :D
I've been playing top tier for a couple hundred hours now and I gotta say, going back to play lower tiers and trying out new strats was super fun and I even learned a couple tricks from there! So I recommend doing that if you're getting bored and frustrated over grinding. I mostly play alone bc my other friend who plays WT is currently sitting at a br where I don't have any enjoyable vehicles so we made an agreement to not play together until we both can have fun while doing it. Can't wait until bro reaches 8.7-9.3, it's going to be the most fun I'll ever have in this game
anyways, great video and to all of you who can't play with friends; try to playing a lower br, even something like 10.3 or 9.3 will do! And remember to always try to learn something new

Whereas I continued to play to unlocked VII Germany and rank 5 or higher for every other nation.
They don’t dislike the game, they just prefer others. Not till recently has top tier been even a little bit of a goal. I set a challenge between myself and a friend who would get the T-90 first. Me with 8 years of experience or him with a top tier premium. Thus far I’m two vehicles ahead of him

I'd just love more PvE content, weather it be official or just more custom game scenarios people upload (Lost in the desert is a great one!) Not everyone enjoys PvP, like myself, and War Thunder has a lot of fun mechanics and details that would make for an amazing, more social PvE setting.
They have semi-open world PvE stuff in Gaijin's other games Crossout and Star Conflict and both have better PvE focuses than War Thunder (more Star Conflict than Crossout, hoping Crossout gets more updates to Adventure mode someday).
I'd love to see something like the PvE content in Armored Warfare, where there's a rotation of regular PvE missions and then occasional season updates with special, more story focused, linear missions that rotate in an out, so people who want the special cosmetic rewards and achievements and such from them can get chances to get them again when they rotate back in while waiting for more episodes to come out. It even makes people having vehicles from different nations on the same team make sense by telling a story of a mercenary company with the players as their most elite squad they send into their most important missions. I'd love to see that, but with War Thunder's less arcadey component based damage systems and the addition of planes, ships and helicopters rather than where AW is just tanks.
War Thunder has a lot of potential, and it feels wasted on short, timed match PvP stuff. I'm not saying PvP is bad, but I wish that the devs focused as much on PvE as they do on PvP, and made PvE a viable method of gaining as much research and lions as PvP does. People who aren't super sweaty and competitive shouldn't be punished because they want a more casual experience where nobody has to lose.

    • @TheIrishTexan
      @TheIrishTexan Před 10 měsíci

Also, the whole 'don't make getting higher tiers a goal' point? I'd say that's a little bit of a hard point if someone really wants to get helicopters, seeing as there's no reserve tier for helicopters and you have to reach a certain tier before they can be used. Also some people have zero interest in propeller driven aircraft and want modern jets. A lot of advertisements and sponsored videos these days only show he modern stuff, giving people the impression that you can jump into modern stuff right away. They join the game, see you have to grind to get there and decide they don't care enough to do that and quit the same day they joined. They need to have a tech tree separation for the more 'modern' stuff, similar to how coastal and bluewater were separated into their own trees, both having reserves so anyone can jump straight in. Jets should be treated as an entirely separate thing with matches more tailored to them and the ability to reserve into jets, they're an entirely different beast from prop planes and shouldn't be locked behind them, same with helicopters. I hope submarines also similarly get their own tree and reserve tier, same with carriers and eventually missile carrying ship classes when we start to get more of those. If a category of vehicle has a different enough playstyle, they should get their own tech tree category.

When I play War Thunder, I do a small amount of grinding when I get home whilst drinking coffee, I'm relaxed and just getting a little bit of TT advancement, then, I go play on custom servers like denn9 y's air server as I find it enjoyable to fly about without having to do anything. I used to play a lot with my friends earlier in the year, but since then they have all given up on it, only coming back at the start of the month to get the TOG and Maus. They only focused on the bad aspects of the game and would rarely muck around in customs like I do, I'm the only one that still plays it because I enjoy some of it, they take the piss out of me constantly so I play alone even though I know it ain't good for me. So please, if you bring someone new to the game, take some time to show them the good aspects of it and don't let them start alone

Ive stuck around for the gameplay (3.7 is the sweet spot for me) and everything ive unlocked since is just a secondary achievement for me. I dont understand the grind mentality in any game. I think its because im from an era of gaming that was purely about gameplay being fun, rather than lots of micro upgrades and such to keep me interested.

Ngl, I usually like TECs takes but I really don't like the "don't try to get to top tier" take. Thats what most people play for. It's what Gaijin always advertises. The game shouldn't take years to grind, simple as that. The fact it does is indefensible. Don't get me wrong, having fun is important, but Gaijin draws in a lot of new people with those flashy modern vehicles. Many people, myself included, got into the game for the high tier stuff, and while I've enjoyed some vehicles along the way, the vehicles I enjoy playing the most are the ones I started playing the game for, even if they're niche or not good. The game shouldn't take years to grind, but having fun along the grind is also important

Its not good by any means but I will play it. A 155mm howitzer mounted on a truck? I am getting it. No need to grind for top tier, especially if its just the same stuff over and over again, APFSDS shots through the tracks, getting CAS'd from space, get your next MBT and repeat. If you like the rank 2 swedish howitzer but you think that you still need to grind to the tops, dont go and play your Ikv - 91 that you hate just because of the grind, go and play the rank 2 funny swedish spg.

For example, the P51Ds are my top planes, they were never the greatest planes but I had them mastered. Now they all feel sub par for their BRs, the 50 cals are peashooters, and the airframes can’t handle a single hit from a 20mm. Not to mention the flight models feel drastically different compared to a year ago. Idk maybe it’s just time to hang the old 12 year WT hat.

Cant say i agree with him here. I mean i understand what he means but....
Top tier or what you might call The End Game is always what you aspire to reach. You dont play any game to just.....Remain where you are.... You have a goal, and in pretty much every game the end goal is to reach the final segments of said game.
The journey is however the most exiting part of it. Its where you have your hardships and struggles and success with either yourself or friends. That i understand, as it is generally known to be so.
But Top Tier is what we all want to reach. I did not start playing War Thunder because i knew i was going to be stuck playing WW2-Cold War era. I started because i wanted to play with M1-Abrams and Leo's. I just didnt know at the time how grindy WT actually was. As i did not exactly have anyone to tell me that. I just. Hopped on the game one day and was hooked.
What i think Canadian is right about however, is that actually reaching top tier does not feel as special as you thought it would. But most journeys always end like that. It is the journey that matters most of the time.

    That guy is 100% right.
The game has little to offer for new players, and the skill gap is insane as almost no one new can handle a Realistic battle and no one that played for years can stomach the Arcade mode.
Playing with anyone new, even if they are decent at other games like FPS or driving is like playing with a toddler on a professional rugby field. They will get pummeled time and time again without even understanding what is going on.
The early maps are not beginner friendly, the progression is awful slow and everything is insanely repetitive for anyone that got trough those tiers before.
My suggestion is that the lower rank progression should be drastically accelerated. Not from rank 1 that is already super fast to go trough, but rank 2 and 3 must be 30% and 40% faster to grind and cheaper to buy. Or give higher rewards to newcomers for at least 1-2 months to make them enjoy the game more.

Big problem is the MM . I started WT 2 years ago and it was no fun at all fighting constant uptiers. 1. the enemy vehicle ist stock better than mine 2. most enemys wherent stock 3. my crew was new , so no skill while the enemys crew was fully spaded and expert or ace 4. enemys spend a lot of time on the maps while i was new to them and so on and so on. The higher the br in air rb was , the more difficult it was to win against way better planes and pilots. Still after 2 years i have nearly only full or +0,7 uptiers ... expect 11.7-12.3 .
If you are new to a game and the enemy gets all aces on his hand ... there is not much to do and no fun.
Only reason i still play the game is that there is no better one ... sadly ... but that doesnt mean that WT is great. They should change the MM , increase the BR (maybe to 14 or 15) and maybe it would be much better.

I don't care about grind I just play whatever vehicle I like and open things on the way ,most of the time I don't play things that I just open until I start to feel boring about my current vehicle
Maybe that's why I have rank 4 and 5 in every nation in game and I don't care about buying things in game unless in the sale (third world currency problems😂)
I usually find myself having fun in this game 😅 that's only my opinion on this

War Thunder straight up was not designed for all the crap in tiers 6-7. Basically all the maps and game mechanics were designed for pre Cold War tech.
High tier air “realistic battles” are one click missile fests at 100m altitude. Some ground RB maps have spawn to spawn firing lines at those tiers.
If you get to tier 4 and still aren’t enjoying the game, the higher tiers aren’t likely to improve your impression at all. Likely the opposite when you get spawn killed by a helicopter or drone 6km outside AA range or insagibbed by an invisible missile after 9 minutes of flying to the battle

I played War thunder since 2014 but this year is enough i cant play this game anymore i cant find a reason to enjoy it, the grind is absolute hell on tanks im not a premium player btw so its even worse, theres no new gamemode they could easily bring EC for RB (with no hud on enemies like SIM) so many objective to do in this gamemode and theres respawn as well, but they just keep add more and more vehicles.

  • @robertsmith4681
    @robertsmith4681 Před 10 měsíci

OP is not wrong in his assessment, getting the boys to add war thunder to the Friday night games repertoire just isn't going to happen, spending weeks or even months to grind to rank III (arguably the level at which the game truly begins) and expecting people to not get bored of doing the same thing over and over and over again so they can get a marginally "better" vehicle and start all over again, just isn't reasonable..

  • @indyjons321

5100+ hours, the only way I have fun playing by myself, is when I change my mentality. Let me explain...
No-Fun: "I need to grind this tree to get 'x' vehicle."
Fun: "I'm going to play the way I want to, HOW I want to, and not care about which nation I am playing, nor the amount of RP/SL I gain."
Now in my defense I can only say that is how I have fun. I only have 2 Nations where I have all the ground vehicles (minus the ones recently added), and a couple others in the mid tiers I don't often play. But thats been 9-10 years to learn that is how I have fun playing this.... the grind is terrible. Its what I hate most about this game. I agree with TEC about top tier should NEVER be a goal. Its not that much fun anyways. Its much less forgiving.

I think this misses the point that many would-be players are not interested in historical vehicles or combat, but are interested in military vehicles/combat they recognize from within their own lifetime. When they find out they have to spend a year grinding through completely unfamiliar equipment, or spend $60+ to obtain one of these vehicles, they're gone. The other objection I've been given is that it so obviously forces you to spend money, when it advertises itself as a free-to-play game.

I have probably 7000 hours idk and still have some more fun solo than with friends or i have fun with friends when i play rarely with them, i play with one a lot and his toxic side irritate me a lot...he says some things that make no sense...but it's my friend so i take it for me and say nothing

if its a niche game and they have made so many millions so far why are the adding submarines and more vehicles and nations rather than infantry. I know enlisted exists but why is it a seperate game? With infantry in war thunder you could start to take over some of the COD/ Battlefield player base and vehicles that typically are infantry support will have more function as a killstreak in infantry battles
