    so it's basically the same idea as drilling a tunnel, one machine can do everything to the point where on the front there's nothing and out of the back comes out an already built and ready to use rail

    One type of track maintenance machine that was not mentioned in the video would Rail-Head Grinders. These are common to railways of the US and Canada, but can also be found in the UK, Australia and India. Most commonly they are manufactured and operated by Loram Maintenance of Way Inc. of Medina, Minnesota USA.

      @@neurofiedyamato8763 rail heads wear down over time, usually in uneven patterns which can cause poor ride quality, when this happens there’s usually 2 options, replace the entire rail, or grind down the rail head so it’s uniform again

      As a child I did love that machine so much, it looked so spooky as it did come in the night flames spewing from its sides. I called it "The dragon" wander why. Any way it seems to have been taken out of service in and around Norway's capital, haven't seen it for years. even if I do live very close to pretty much every rail that travels north from the central station. I do live where the lines do diverts into the three mainlines for northbound trains, so I should have seen it if it was in use anymore in the central parts for the system.

      @@min-hokim1614 I use headphones and seriosuly, I can have it set where its consistently normal and audible for most things. but when ad's or some intros come on, they are not normilized to the audio level and it really hurts my ears, whats worse, is that they can play before you can get to the audio controls. then once you fix the audio for the stupidly loud part, it gets quite and you have to turn the volume back up for the main video.
      there is zero excuse for not normalizing your audio on a edited video . its just unprofessional. the rest of the video is fine but seriously.

    Straddle carrier and full span girder launching machine is also used mainly if not exclusively in Railways construction.
    Viaduct is assential part of HSR, it is highly used by China and now in India.

    I work for 7 years now (and not for long anymore) for one of the most important compagny of this business of building that type of train and I learned more on the way that a tamping machine is working with your video than in my company on 7 years, even if I worked only on that type of contruction/renovation trains.
    My chef team asked few times for a budget to go on a trip on restoration work site to see our work doing is job, be able to understand why some things have to be done in a specific way, etc. Always denide... "we can see it working next to the halls" but only tamping so I still don't know all other fonctions are working.
    Good products, compact compare to some seen on your video, clearly one of the leader of this market but I let you imagine the inside with the previous paragraph and the fact I'm not going to exceed 7 years here.
    At least, it has not a direct impact on the good functioning of the products.

      @@RailwaysExplained It takes a very high discipline to operate.It's weight and length makes it very difficult to look and notice all around it. High pressure upto 150 bar is operated in these hydraulic hoses in very cramped spaces,which is a very serious headache in its own way when any leakage is noticed and hoses needed to be changed. During operating in limited block time, if the machine is in ok condition and maintained fit,it is good to operate , though you still need to look out for any instances of failures. Because due to limited time,you have to clear out the section because if you dont then there will be cascaded delaying of the trains that would be running on the track and upper administration officers wont care about your explanations anymore and as an incharge , you will be penalised accordingly with disciplinary actions.

    in case of welded rails, like depicted at 4:53 - how does these type of rails handle shrinking and expansion of metal due to temperature changes?
    i thought the gaps were supposed to provide that slight change in length

      In my country we use both welded and joints. I believe they use the joint type every several hundred meters with some gap in them, and the rest are the welded type

      They don't change in length (only a fairly short length at either end of the welded rail section moves) but temperature changes build up internal stresses within the rails. The ballast bed and concrete sleepers prevent these stresses moving the rails horizontally and vertically.

      In CWR (continuous Welded Rail) technology, the rails are welded at a specific temperature (around 25°C) and prestressed when welded. Due to this conditions, the rails will absorb the difference of temperatures all along the year without moving, of course if it stayed between the mechanical limits specified to the welding conditions.

      @@parsahasselhoff7986 I'm not against the project as a whole, the problem is the execution is terrible. Their planned phasing is bad because it connects two places that are effectively in the middle of nowhere to each other instead of connecting at least some of their major cities first. Their The huge litany of laws that the state has put in place over the decades make it damn near impossible to do anything at all in that state. Then to make matters worse, the construction techniques they've employed to date are inefficient and therefore more expensive than other alternatives that they could easily have went with. Frankly the state has no business even considering the project when they can't even build housing without it taking a decade and costing 3-5 times the estimated cost.

    I really want to like this channel, but besides the jarring English, there are just way too many errors in this video. The whole video feels like a mashed up reading of machinery brochures without any comprehension of the actual work. Also, a lot of North American and European machines and techniques are shown as if they work together, while they are in reality working vastly differently. I know that this knowledge is hard to come by from the internet, but this video doesn’t do it any justice.
