  • On 7 June 2013, the X3 demonstrator broke the speed record and pushed the limits for a helicopter by reaching 472 km/h (255 kt) in stabilised level flight at an altitude of about 10,000 feet (3,048 m).
“The X3 is clearly in its element at high speeds,” explained test pilot Hervé Jammayrac. “At 472 km/h, the X3 ’s performance was identical to that achieved in its flight envelope, demonstrating exceptional stability and low vibration levels without the need for an anti-vibration system.”
Insight gained from the X3 has been used to design the RACER (Rapid and Cost-Effective Rotorcraft) high-speed hybrid demonstrator, which is being developed as part of the European Clean Sky 2 research project.

It's replacement just had it's first flight. Gonna be interesting to see them in the air.

472 km/h used to be a big deal, until Bugatti Chiron hit 490 km/h on the runway... Just kidding.

Fastet time for Paris-Les 3 Vallées en France
      Bugatti Chiron : 4h34
      Eurocopter X3 :1h12
You can keep your Chiron (and pay speeding fines)

10 YEARS in development and still not a single commercial model avaliable😑😑😒
When will the RACER finally enter in service?

Are they showcasing two design here? Because the orientation of the wing changes in the video, at one its angled towards the front and at another it seems it's angled towards the back

I would leave only one propeller to compensate rotation momentum and move the lift motor sideways to balance the center of gravity. Because In conventional helicopters, the tail rotor does not create any propelling force. It would not increase speed but improved economic a little bit. And also it would be useful to think about using mechanisation, slats for example, on the lift propeller, or changing geometry, to minimize diameter of the propeller and as a result to increase its and helicopters speed.

Air Bus. Eu sou Brasileiro do RJ. Tenho 41 anos Embora admiro esse lindo projeto. Se vocês me derem um emprego criando novos designes de helicópteros vocês vão se surpreender com minhas ideias inovadoras. Me digam onde posso ir e falar com quem e qual data e horário. Obs: Moro no RJ. Atualmente estou sem emprego. Conheço sobre vôo e simuladores entre outras coisas. Minha habilidade é inovar. Gostaria de uma oportunidade. Aguardo vocês. :-)

yeah, thats why its an unofficial record. its more like a gyrodyne. Official Record is still held by the westland lynx at about 400kph

@@fgtrhwu2 I guess it depends on wether or not the can reduce the cost of those designs, both are quite complexe and thus expensive. just like the v22. In operations where top speed are not the main criteria is just dont see a EC135 sized Tiltrotor.
And the Design of the Defiant might be less complex but you also dont have the lift from the Wing like the v280. So that might be just a niche design, like the x3.

@@nelayo4894 I still remember the Commanche programme. Bell claims their version uses available and cheaper tech that probably was expensive at the time. But the Raider X looks like it can carry more weapons despite not being as stealthy. Curious which route the US is gonna take

@@fgtrhwu2 I´m actually more curious wich way the civil market is gonna take (might be biased on that one :D ) but if the v280 really is going to be built on a big scale it might make the technology cheap enough for the 8-12 tonne region. could be quite interesting for the SAR/HEMS area
