@@golflessons awesome video and instructions Shawn you make it look so easy 👍👍 playing tomorrow I’ll let you know how the chipping and the rest goes Thanks as always you’ve helped my game improve
The ball outside the back foot is certainly unique to what is commonly taught with chipping, but makes a lot of sense when you explain it. Definitely going to try this.
Hi Shawn. i would really like to thank you for the time you have taken to create these great tips.I found this video last night, and practised this style in my front yard this morning. I had to use it a number of times today. Although not all my shots were perfect I do believe it got me closer to the pin than normal.
Good to see hands ahead being advised while chipping. Ive seen so many players trying to chip from a more neutral set up only to thin or chunk again and again. Feet together always gave me that little bit more height on the chip and contact just felt better.
This video was BEAUTIFUL! This confirmed that I'm in the right way. In chipping I see square where front corners are point of my feet. Back corner is ball place and back line of the square pictures my FREE swing. That's only way how I can do swing repeating over and over again. Without manipulations! This was good video again! Thank you Shawn.
hey shawn, i was lost, went up to a 16hcp. found your instruction tips, fantastic!!!, after 7weeks my weekly golf group has my cap @ 9 ,boo yaa , thank you so much , i have allready shared your site many times.
Hi Shawn, Last week I found your video (again) about utilizing "Goldilocks" for pitch and chips shots and I finally (DAH! me...) tried it and it works great! I then found this feet together chipping technique video of yours. My first thought was - Really!.... Since most everything I've tried to date of your tips have improved my game... I thought why not? And I tried it today on a practice round at the course. My new reaction - WOW! Every chip was really crisp - not one stub, blade or fat chip. Since it's a different technique for me, it took me a few attempts to get used to the new ball flight and roll out distances - and now I'm SOLD! It helped me with two great and tricky up and downs to save par on two holes today. I'm convinced if I would have utilized my old technique they would have been bogeys. Great Stuff! Thanks Update: After reviewing my scorecard (I track my shots and putts) after my next round I had 6 one putts. Four of them were much better than my "old normal chip shots" - leaving me with 1 - 3 foot Par save putts. I am truly a convert to this method of chipping. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You...
Shawn. I'm glad you addressed the pitfalls brought up in the article. I didn't agree nor experience the problems that he mentioned. Personally, my pitfalls have more to do with loss of focus, which you nicely addressed in the video!
On a chip shot, with the handle ahead wouldn't you need to hit the ball perfectly otherwise you will stick that leading edge into the ground ? Some teachers promote using the bounce and a parallel shaft when contacting the ball. Using the bounce gives you more leeway on mishits although you do see a slight reduction in spin. What's your opinion on using the bounce ?
Ahhh, so misunderstood is the chipping by so many! You did notice we want to have the club face 10 degrees open so that the sole of club and bounce raise the leading edge off the ground and then the BIG KEY IS TO ALLOW THE FULL LENGTH OF THE ARMS AND CLUB TO SWING FREELY FROM THE SHOULDER SOCKETS CENTRED BY THE STERNAL NOTCH to give you the proper angle of attack that has the perfect pitch to cut grass ALONG THE GROUND AND NOT INTO THE GROUND!
As far as distance is concerned, what is the maximum distance you would chip? I struggled yesterday from shots between 50-75 yards from the green. From that distance, is that where you would "pitch" on?
Yes, that is innthe zone where you would need to strain with the lower case Y! As soon as you let the trail arm fold, the forearms will rotate and the wrists will be in a semi hinged state ready to release; so if the feet are together, you will need to centre the ball position then!
it looks like your left foot is behind your right foot by a little bit allowing your hips to open; am I seeing this correctly? (noticed when you were hitting towards the camera). Seems like you're not going to have enough time to get the hips around so good idea to 'preset' them?
Don't look at it that way; if you are letting the weight of the arms and club cut through the grass and towards the spot you want to land the ball, THE BODY WILL TURN OUT OF THE WAY WITHOUT THINKING.
Gee guess how I was chipping the day before this video came out LOL my only problem was I had the ball in the middle of the stance thinking that was the bottom but now I know different so that Cleveland sure sole club I have will probably really do the trick now thank you
When I started to play the ball off the toe of the club (pitching and chipping) I found way more control over the ball. Basically, I address the ball, 1 ball back of center (usually) and I lift the heel of the club off of the ground. From what I gather, the toe has way more bounce than the heel and therefore is a much safer way to chip and pitch...not to mention, the strike is a bit blunted off the toe and so the ball tends to stop quicker. I think Brandel Chamblee has a video where Paul Azinger shows him this off the toe method.
Shawn I find I like to run a 8 or 9 iron up to and onto the green from 30 yards or so. Would you play them the same too with feet together? For me on tight or wet lies it's higher % shot
Sorry Shawn this teaching destroys any notion of using the bounce of the club head. It encourages you to hit with the leading edge and stub the shot into the ground. - Not good
This is fantastic Shawn. So simple to get perfect contact each time, freeing the brain to focus on the momentum you need. Brilliant
Right on Michael! Thanks!

Loving these feet together drills. These really have helped me with my strike with each club and my balance during the swing. Thanks for these Shawn!
You are soo welcome!! 👍😀
Thank you Shawn for making me a happy golfer and not as frustrated 🏌🏾😎
You are so welcome my brother Curtis! 😀👍🤛🏾👌
Thanks for this Shawn.. I really struggle with the yips and chipping in general, this mind set and drill will definitely help me focus more.
You are by far the best teacher ever!!
Great video and instructions Shawn you make it look so easy sole of club through the stem 👍👍

See "short game chipping shawn clement" as a good back up to this one; Shawn

Thank you forthe great comment!! Pass this video on to those guys and gals! :)

Yesssss!!! Thank you for the great comment Ron!
Very helpful. Thanks
Why not recommend the same approach with all irons if it is the best way to ensure good contact with the ball?
Excellent
GREAT!!!! Thanks for making this....
You bet!!
Nicely explained. Thanks
Hi Dave! You are welcome!
Great video! I'm going to be a weed whacker now and concentrate on cutting the dandelion stem! 😉
That would be time very well spent!! :)
🔥
Phil Mickelson believes in this technique he has said in some of his chipping videos putting the ball in the back of your stance

Shawn, how much swing speed or club head speed should we expect? thanks for the videos!
Hmmm, this is a chipping video Mike? Which shot would you be talking about?
Do you have a book coming out? I think you said you were making one a while ago.
Working our butts off as we speak on it!!

There you go Jerry!
Shawn do we have a video feet together in the sand or will it be the same as the chipping

Sure, that can work nicely! I use that for very short chips!
See "very short chip shawn clement"
I do this on the course now. Feet together and let gravity do it. I'm chipping 10 times better.
Does this technique work in all different lies?
You mean slopes?? Not in severe slopes, see "uphill chip shawn clement" and "downhill chip Shawn clement"
Shawn I find I like to run a 8 or 9 iron up to and onto the green from 30 yards or so. Would you play them the same too with feet together? For me on tight or wet lies it's higher % shot
Totally fine way to go about it! Lots pf fun to practice too!
Shawn Clement thanks I'm watching bunch of your vids now
How long of a chip can you do that way
25 to 35 yards...
Shawn Clement. Thanks
Shawn, you must re-name the video in Chip Ping.
Haha, just had an amazing visit with Ping this week; cannot wait to show you guys the footage when I get back!
My chipping was awful until I realized I was freezing my body. You have to turn those hips.
Exactly!!!! Same for long putts!!
Sorry Shawn this teaching destroys any notion of using the bounce of the club head. It encourages you to hit with the leading edge and stub the shot into the ground. - Not good
All you need to do is open the face and activate the bounce Mark!
