I don't think so, HotD has his moments, but isn't even close to GOT. It's clear the writer are the classic Hollywood writers which are interpreting the story of fire and blood with the modern eyes, leaving behind the realism of the medieval period in Martin's books. The politics it's off, the characters are off, it's just doesn't feel like Westeros, but rather your average fantasy story about a princess and her dragons. I understand why people may like it, but miss all the new once that GOT had at the begging and earn it his spot as one of tv best series

100% disagree, what you said is moronic and feels like you want to call them woke for the sake of it. This show is a masterclass in how it adapts a rather “ok” book into a far superior television. The work they did on Viserys is absurd, even Martin says HOTD’s Viserys is better than his. The only idiotic thing was that coronation scene, and Rheynes stepping on all these civilians, which stains the whole show, cause other than that it’s just overall a way better product

In GOT even Tyrion, Daenerys or Jon take active participation in the plot and do bad/selfish stuff (even if they are technically the most heroic people in the show). The main thing Hotd has going for it right now, is that its a simple story with far less players in it. It could be argued that GoT came out far too early when bringing ASOIAF fully to the screen was a risk, hence why so many characters were cut out.. Like they could of added the rest of the cast in Season 4 and done it right, but I think the fans would of been upset being taken away from the main cast for a bit.. I also wouldn't be surprised if he worked on it in secret.

Theoretically, it should. The scale and shock factor of GoT (specifically after season 3) is not an adequate substitute for good writing. Not to mention the piss-poor season 7 and 8. The main problem of GoT is adapting it was extremely difficult, especially since the source material is not finished. Even with the finished material, there are several plot points/characters that weren't adapted to the show which forced the writers to write their own plots; and then that lead to disappointing conclusions either because they write themselves into a corner or the adapted plots couldn't rconclude in a satisfying way with the original plots.
HotD's source material is finished. It was written in a way that allows significant creative freedom when adapted, and is much more manageable in terms of scale. As long as they don't deviate in ways that would lead them to a corner, surpassing GoT is not difficult. It's already got great cast, production, and dialogues.

Watching GOT felt like the universe is so vast, and full of weird magic and weird characters and like anything is possible, that with the constant looming fear of "winter is coming". It created the perfect atmosphere. The politics and family drama in that kind of atmosphere felt different. Meanwhile HOTD is just the family drama and the politics, without the mystic atmosphere. Honestly, after the generic, poorly written, constant action of the latter seasons of GOT, season 1 was such a refreshing return to what made the early seasons of GOT so good: strong writing, tons of dialogs and complex character developments. So far, I'm loving season 2 although there are a few moments where I feel some more generic writing reminiscent of season 6 and 7 of GOT (I don't want to insult HOTD by going to the point of comparing those moments to season 8 lol). But those are fleeting moments in an overall still very dialog and character development oriented episodes. And some of the episodes of season 2 so far are even stronger than season 1 and early GOT.

I basically agree with you. But I don’t think that it’s actually fair for to call HoTD “better” that GoT on the balance.
Yes, the writing is better, blah blah blah. But remember a. you’re judging 14 episodes against some 60+ episodes (and saying the story is smaller and more focused and concentrated as a selling point) and b. It has the luxury of concentration because of all the world building it doesn’t have to do. What is the Song of Ice and Fire-what are White Walkers-what is The North? What is the Vale?-a Sky Cell?-What is the significance of a gaunt brunette in blue velvet? What are the Three Sisters?-what’s the Narrow Sea?-how does macroeconomics feature here? Who are the Martels-what is the financial value of the agrarian industries? What of religion?-knowledge?-academia? -And how are the Hightowers different than the Tarleys? Why are the Tullys so important?-why are they so useless?-why do we care?-(psst because Catlyn Stark, that’s why.). What the hell is Dorne?-why have Rhaenys and Cole actually seen battle?
None of that is central to the action. None of that even touches on who the Targaryens are or where dragons come from or what the “rules” of that magic is.
But ALL of that is baked into HoTD, without it even trying. So as Obama said, “You didn’t build that.”

GOT might have crashed and burned in the end, but those first six seasons were near-perfection. This was largely due to the writing, it was exceptional. The series thrived on intricate plotting, complex character arcs, and a richly woven narrative. HOTD has already begun to exhibit issues with inconsistent writing and questionable narrative decisions.
One of my main criticisms is the stark contrast in character development. GOT excelled in creating multifaceted characters with profound depth, even among minor characters like Varys and Olenna. In HOTD, even main characters such as Rhaenyra and Alicent suffer from the show's conflicting writing. The show struggles to imbue its characters with the same complexity and nuance that made GOT so good.
Moreover, its narrative choices sometimes feel rushed or poorly thought out, causing a sense of disconnect and dissatisfaction when I think of the meticulous storytelling of GOT. HOTD has a lot going for it, but it may find it challenging to achieve the same level of writing excellence that defined its predecessor.

I feel like perhaps the reason these shows are so good stems form the source material, i.e. Grr Martin is good at writing stories and dialogue (he's having trouble with his magnus opis, a song of ice and fire, book 6 is never gonna come out, guess we'll have to add george to the list of geniuses that died before finishing, looking at you frank herbert), and ultimately i feel it's all because he worked as screenwriter for a chunck of his life, he knows how to describe vivid scenes and intriguing dialogue to go with it. I think originally he had thought of gamer of thrones as a movie or a show, but nobody wanted to take him up on the offer, as the undertaking would have been bigger than lotr films, so he settled on writing all down in book version, but ultimately this universe was never thought to live in pages, but live in the screen, contributing to creating a really good screen adaptation (but don't leave the show writers with no source material, you might get another s8, i hope those bastards are never allowed near any major work and get relegated to making b series movies, even that is generous)

I rewatched season 1 of GOT last week and god damn I could watch them just talking all day. There was tension and conflict. I want to point out that when I talk about game of thrones I am only referring to the first 6 seasons and not to the last two seasons which they did to close everything quickly. after having clarified this fact I want to say this: game of thrones changed the history of the TV series forever, it introduced a new way of telling stories in many places at the same time, it brought incredible characters played by excellent actors, and in terms of script there is absolutely no comparison D&D for the first 4 seasons they made an absolute masterpiece with extraordinary dialogues. House of the Dragon wouldn't even exist if it weren't for Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon narrates the internal events of the Targaryen house unlike Game of Thrones where the events involve all the houses of Westeros. I believe that House of the Dragon is an extremely overrated series, with a pompous script, with characters that are unnecessarily too serious, a script without irony and without humanity, where the characters seem like remote-controlled machines rather than real human beings with strengths and weaknesses. no dialogue will remain in the history of the TV series and no scene, unlike Game of Thrones where there are hundreds of scenes that made history (Tyrion's trial, the duel between Oberyn and the Mountain, Ned Stark's death, the wedding red, the purple wedding......). the characters in house of the dragon are simply empty, no one tells me anything I haven't grown fond of anyone. they made a mistake from the beginning, if they had been more competent they would have started the series at another point in the story, they started at the beginning by introducing the story with a narration of the events, a serious technical error that made the series less interesting and more banal, they should have already started with the children of Viserys and Alicent grown up, with the children of Rhaenyra and Strong grown up, with a good script and well-written dialogues they would have made us understand the background between the characters, which is done very well in the first season of game of thrones, without the need for an initial narration at the great council of harrenhal. finally I add that the series is ridiculous for various reasons already just for the fact of the black velaryons for reasons of inclusiveness it makes clear the lack of respect for Martin's work where the velaryons are described aesthetically similar in every way to the Targaryen, in addition to this ruined characters like criston cole who in the series is an idiot while in the books he is a fascinating character, they cast the actors wrong because of their age, now in the second season we have Alicent's actress who is two years old more than the actor of his son aegon ii, furthermore that the most serious thing that the series takes is immediately in favor of Rhaenyra by making her appear to be the perfect heir when in reality in the books she is an incompetent ruler and spoiled by her father King Viserys who in reality is an idiot king who he led to the destruction of his house by naming his only daughter heir and then remarrying and having sons who, according to the traditions of Westeros, have more right to the throne.

Games of thrones at some point was too long and boring
Not with the house of dragon each episode is carefully crafted
The makers of house of dragon knows that people are waiting for one week just to see one episode at the time if they don't make it good then no one will watch
The biggest selling point of games of thrones was that it has the highest IMDb rating
