    Brian Eno is the guy making the cool synthesizer sounds and is one of the most important musicians of the modern age.

    Roxy Music is what it says, an entire genre on its own. They were way ahead of their time and one of the most influential bands ever, certainly in the UK. The first two albums were as you described 'alien' certainly compared with anything at that time. Roxy got thrown in with 'glam rock' movement - probably because of their very glamourous stage presentation and clothing - but Glam Rock quickly disappeared; Whereas here we are 50 yrs later reviewing their music - maybe the US is finally waking up to one of the greatest bands of all time.

    This was one of my favourite bands. I did get to see then live. Their influence to other bands was noticeable. Their music much like David Bowie. Their albums changed as time marched on. Example, Avalon is a distant cousin of their earlier works. Neither artist ever put out a "bad" album over decades of producing them. I hope your video give Roxy Music the respect in America they have always deserved, thank you.

    The first album I ever bought was Stranded, which was Roxy's third album. They are my all-time favourite band and I still have every one of their albums. Well done for choosing this classic and cheers from the UK.

    I messaged the original drummer of Roxy Music, I got a reply back! and Paul Thompson actually agreed to sign my vinyl of their debut album! Hopefully getting Andy Mackay's next!

    Roxy Music were mold breakers , innovative, way ahead of their time for Americans but definitely influential. Glad you like Virginia Plain . Try If There Is Something . A song that doesn’t get as much press as Stairway to Heaven and Bohemian Rhapsody but just as great IMHO . Oh and I am a Yank .

    That is how many people described seeing and hearing Roxy back in 1972, as if aliens were beamed into their living rooms.

    Sooooo many amazing Roxy Music songs- Editions of you, pajamarama, Both Ends Burning, Out of the Blue, in every Dreamhome a heartache, Mother of Pearl, you’ll love them all! IMO, Roxy is second only to The Beatles for influential music. Most of the 80s bands borrowed heavily from Roxy and David Bowie.

    The truly amazing aspect of this song is that there is no chorus. There is absolutely nothing in theory holding this song together, yet it does hold together. It teeters on chaos, but somehow makes it across the finish line.

      This particular song (and Roxy era) does have an atonal aura to it. It's almost Punk or Garage Band in its compressed range, but with lots of textures thrown in that the punks would never have approved of. And of course the lyrics are too literary to ever be truly Punk or Garage Rock.

      @@An_Cat_Dubh You really caught my drift. I like to be intellectually challenged. Roxy was too much for me when I was young.

      @apollomemories7399 Před 3 lety

      @@An_Cat_Dubh Yeah, "almost" to the extent of nothing even close at all. You don't half talk complete rubbish. There is nothing remotely "compressed" about this recording and can only suggest that you invest in a decent hi-fi. Were you to hear the original 45 properly, it would blow you away.
