Brubeck was my introduction to Jazz. Take Five was the song. I've never heard it as an orchestral piece before. Whoever the arranger is, he did a marvelous job.
This is fun as is Tito Puente's Latin version - it's just a genius of a tune

I wasn't sure what to expect with this, but you all did it beautifully. It left me smiling. The vocals were a great touch.

Some people can't like two versions of a song. They have a favorite and anything else is a thumbs down.
It's not a thumbs down, the musicianship is good. It's just that some songs only work in the time signature they were originally written in (5/4). The specials did this in 4/4 too and it didn't work then.
@@AYTAZED That depends. Dave Brubeck's version was (for all I can remember) my first introduction into Jazz. it has classic status. But, as a huge appreciator of Ska, this version works for me too.Or at least it did up to the point the vocalist effed it up.
It's flat and lifeless. They somehow managed to suck all the magic out of this tune.

I believe they have tried 5/4 and found it too challanging. so the easiest way is switch to 4/4😅

Lol too challenging. C'mon, seeing the quality these musicians have it's not a matter of being "too challenging". If you want to have it ska-ish you have to change the beat

What a fantastic interpretation of this great old song - i knew I'd love it from just 20 seconds in.
Val Bennett did the original Reggae version of this in 68 and has been done by countless other Ska and Reggae groups!
Including King Tubby, The Specials, The Skatalites, New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, The Toasters, etc. etc.

I see a lot of comments about the lack of 5/4 timing not bringing the flavor and the tack should be called something else. Before we condemn this track to hell, this is just a rendition of Desmond's tune and a damn nice one at that. It's the spirit of the track that makes this worthy of positive attention not that it's not in 5/4 time. I say thumbs up, dig it for what it is not for what it's not. 'Tis not what man does which exalts him, but what man would do!

Can't comprehend why I love this version more than original one.
Gotta face it, Take Five might have influenced a lot of people and show the whole world how important 5/4 is (it's not, sorry the blunt honesty) that doesn't make it to take me away a third of what this one does.
I like Take Five, it's an ok song, we all do, but let's face it: It's not the second coming of Christ, in fact, most people nowadays don't even know it anymore.

This a great arrangement of the classic Take Five my local jazz fanfare bought this arrangement and adapted it for our instruments it works really well.
