    This video covers each of the different views included in Audi's new Virtual Cockpit. This new technology is absolutely stunning with a high-resolution and quick-moving screen. It's hard to see the difference between analog gauges and these virtual gauges. Google Earth view is incredibly useful as well.

    As you can see in the video, this setup is in a new 2017 Audi S3 Facelift

    This may sound like a stupid question but how do paddle shifters work on an automatic? Do you use them? I'd love to see a video on how to properly use them on this car!

    • @TheCenterLineAuto
      @TheCenterLineAuto  Před 7 lety +2

      Yes, I do use them when I get bored of just setting it to drive and going. Essentially it works the same exact way as a true manual, just without the 3rd pedal. I came from an Evo IX with a true manual transmission and do sometimes miss the 3rd pedal. However, this car is much more practical for my daily driving habits. I sit in traffic for 45 minutes each way.

    • @BovineDeath
      @BovineDeath Před 7 lety +1

      I came from a 6-speed manual 2015 WRX STI to a 2017 S3, the paddles are actually very quick and responsive (especially compared to my wife's 147kw Skoda Octavia VRS), but the car won't hold a gear at high revs, if you get close to redline, it will upshift even in manual mode.
      It gives you some control, but less than with a stick. It is a lot of fun though, this is the first car that I've actually enjoyed paddle shifts in.

  • @Zillogism
    @Zillogism Před 5 lety +1

    The virtual dash is interesting. I just test drove a 2018 S3 w/virtual and NAV But, I like the analog gauges better still, but that is simply my opinion, and others have different and valid options. Yes, you can select the large single gauge, but it's a tach with an inset numeric speedo, and Audi doesn't let the driver change which gauge is the larger. But, that's what the sales guy told me and he could be wrong. Is he?
    The dash is digital, so why not allow the driver to alter the placement of the gauges, and the size of the gauges on various areas on the screen? For example, what if I want a large tach on the upper left and a small analog like speedo on the lower right?
    The "virtual" dash is simply preset and the options of gauge size and placement are limited in the sense that the driver can only select to "customize" using what the programmers decided to offer. Overall modern high quality "analog" gauges still look better and are much crisper. The virtual has very good/great res, but there is no mistaking that the gauges are a digital image/imitation, of the real thing. Sure, you can't move hard placed analog gauges, but then you don't pay $3200 for a package to be able to choose some alternate placement of pictures of gauges.
    For me, I have no need for NAV, but you can't have the virtual digital dash without the NAV. I have a cell phone with great navigation, and I also have a Garmin that works nicely and cost under $200. On the rare occasion I need NAV I can use the Garmin or just use my cell phone. Over 90% of my driving is my greater surrounding area where I know where to go. So, I don't need a NAV screen on a daily basis. On the contrary though, there is a positive to be said about seeing traffic conditions on the NAV screen, so that is a good counter argument for it. But, even with that it's not an imperative such that I would spend the $3200 for the package to get the virtual dash.
    People love the "ooooooh and aaaaah" of some modern tech, even before considering the tech is needed, or even if it adds or improves anything beyond what came before it. The digital pictures of gauges do not work any better than much lower cost options. This tech serves to create a larger NAV screen, which is fine for those who want or need daily NAV. The thing that I most complain about is that manufactures like Audi package this new "virtual" dash with the better audio systems as if you need NAV and digital graphic gauges because you want the best OEM audio they offer. It's ridiculous. They turn a $900 audio upgrade option into a "must buy" package that costs around $3200. Not a good thing. Keep the "ohhh and aaahh" techno goodies as their own add-one cost options. I don't want to have to buy the fries and milkshake just because I want cheese on my burger. :)

    • @TheCenterLineAuto
      @TheCenterLineAuto  Před 5 lety

      I agree with a lot that you said. The packaging that Audi does is annoying. In order to get CarPlay, you have to option Nav and VC. Why? I don’t need Nav if I have CarPlay.
      You can adjust the size of the gauges on the S3. There is an additional gauge layout that has the tach on the left and the speedo on the right. Nav would be in the center. Think of it as a virtual version of the typical analog gauge layout.

      @TheCenterLineAuto  Před 4 lety

      The VC is a little bar that fills up for boost in the sport layout, but its not really precise enough to know what’s actually happening. Don’t think you’ll be able to add anything more than that to the VC.

      Here in the US you are not able to equip the VC without navigation. It's all part of the technology package. Same goes for Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. It's only included with the Technology package so you get the onboard MMI Nav & VC with it.

  • @thesandstig
    @thesandstig Před 6 lety +1

    Question. Do you have to pay some reoccurring fee to Audi to get the traffic to work on Google Maps? Or do you just need to pay for the SIM card? (I heard $200/yr.) If I got this car, I would want Google Maps working on the gauge cluster and Pandora/CarPlay running on the Media Screen.

    • @TheCenterLineAuto

      +thesandstig you can either pay for Audi connect, which is quite expensive or you can enter your own SIM card to get the data.
