    Definitely agree with your run down and ranking. I've tried all these brands and a bunch of more expensive ones too, and the Charles Tyrwhitt non iron shirts are consistently the best. I have some shirts from them that are 12 years old now and worn a bunch of times and never had an issue with durability on any shirt. And now they have a custom shirt option which is awesome.

    Great vid, Spier & Mackay and Charles Tyrwhitt are my go to shirts. I've found the S&M contemporary fit and CT slim fit to be comparable in fit .

    You are dead on 👍🏻. I’ve been hooked on CT shirts for the past year, just tried SM and purchased 3 on a sale. On one the color bled on first wash, the other broke a button on first wash and the third had no issues. And this was at the dry cleaner. Never had any issues with CT, quality is much nicer right down to the collar stays.

  • @csmcilwain
    @csmcilwain Před 4 lety +3

    I would recommend Eton, but you will have to pay more for those, the fit and quality are worth it...but that is only my personal opinion. Also may i suggest washing your shirts by hand in cold water, and don't ever put them in the dryer as that's just asking for trouble. Keep up the good work!

    Charles Tyrwhitt have become my sole shirt supplier. I'm a good size guy 6'3" 225lbs with a 46" chest and trim waist. Their "extra slim" fits perfect when I want a nice super clean cut look, and the "slim" is nice when I want be a bit more casual, laid-back, and want a tad more room. The only issue I have is a lack of options for darker colors. I like the occasional dark burgundy, navy/blue, grey, purples, or browns. Almost all CT shirts are white, very light blues and violets, or light patterns.

    Twillory fit looks best on you... a little too much fabric on the CT and not enough on Spier MacKay! If you buy four Twillory at a time you can get the price down to about $50. I'm not surprised you like CT... I've always felt they're great for bigger guys... I'm not in love with their slim/trim fit.

  • @pattgsm
    @pattgsm Před 5 lety +2

    Ian, great comparison. Definitely do more of these! of the shirts you reviewed, I only have experience w/ Tie Bar and Twillory. I won't be purchasing any more Tie Bar shirts for the exact reasons you ranked them 4th and because they don't make true 33 sleeve. Tie Bar are fantastic affordable workhorse shirts if arms are shorter or longer than 33in and for all body types except up to smaller endomorphs. I love Twillory's Safe Cotton line but you nailed it when you stated that they really need to expand the collar options. A true simi-spread before I consider a re-up (tab and ban would be nice too). I've been following S&M for about 2 yrs and each season their shirts have hit more requirements on my check lists with OTR sizing. (Because they come out with great pieces each season it is very easy to fall into a brand loyalty situation). CT has some great deals constantly and a many size options. Many have said that CT shirts are similar quality of BB regular line with more fit options so probably a great place to order affordable workhorse shirts for those not satisfied w/ Tie Bar fits. Again great review!

    • @FitManStyle
      @FitManStyle  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks man, I'll give Tie bar another shot, perhaps the chambray makes the standard fit a lil snug. The stretch in the Twillory is super helpful but yea, I got lucky with an oval shaped face to get away with the wide spread collar. I need to check out S&M MTM option to make minor adjustments to theirs OTR. Totally forgot to mention the different sizes of CT,from classic all the way to super slim, definitely cater to all body types

    • @pattgsm
      @pattgsm Před 5 lety +1

      Fit Man Style - No need to go back to the Tie Bar well if they don't fit but for others, it's an affordable option that passes the office dress code. As far as S&M, I need to try their OTR before I go MTM. That OTR price is just too appealing not to try. I think S&M pieces have the most character w/ their designs and materials. The problem I have is that I wait too long and my size ends up out of stock. I guess my size 15.5/33 is not so odd lol.

    Have you tried sizing up in a tighter fit ? It would give you more room for your chest while giving a more tailored fit at the waist.

      I was just about to say the same thing. I was actually in Oxford and gotgot a few shirts in a brick-and-mortar store they had there. I typically need an athletic, modern, or classic cut shirt in Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren, but I could wear a slim in what I usually wear in a classic cut and a half size up in Tyrwhitt's extreme slim, which I was shocked at.

    Great comparison video. Of the ones you reviewed I only own the Tie Bar shirts in their trim fit and have been happy with them compared to my other Calvin Klein and Kenneth Cole slim fit shirts which actually fit me too lose and the material feels thinner than the Tie Bar.

      @FitManStyle  Před 5 lety +2

      Thanks man! You put me on to S&M! I imagine their MTM would give me to option to do minor changes but I do love their OTR, that price is a steal. Loving their turtlenecks. Knowing that their OTR pants are a lil snug even with their contemporary fit, I'm a little hesitant on their suits if the pants will feel the same.

      @@FitManStyle I use them for dress shirts (MTM now is the way to go as you can even ask for them to wash fabric before making so you don't have barely any shrinkage once you wear and wash! Just have to make a note when you order them!

    • @pattgsm
      @pattgsm Před 5 lety +1

      Fit Man Style - piggybacking on everything O.D., stated wrt S&M. Ian Dont be hesitant to try the suits. You can order any suit as separates as long as the sizes are in stock. Just add a comment in the notes. My 42s contemporary suit came w/ 35w trousers standard 6 in drop. For ref., my thigh fluctuates btwn 26-28 in and the trousers fit nicely. A nice hug on the seat, proper rise, tailored but does not hug the thighs or calves, does not swallow my shoes. S&M's has the best fit recommendations of any brand that I've tried on line.
      Rick at S&M recently asked SF community what features they would like to see in a high waisted trouser (types of pleats, side adjusters, Calvary twill, etc...). If/when made available you know they are going to go quickly.

I need some basics ( a good white and good blue shirt), and then one with a pattern, possibly a gingham shirt. I have an account with Tailorstore and may measurements are already logged in with them, but I want to see your thoughts on a few of the companies you listed, Ian. @@FitManStyle Thanks Ian. Yeah....I do have some white shirts and one blue....but MAN, they were cheap ones I bought at Kohls. They're almost 50% poly, plastic collar stays,...and so on. One is a Van Huesen. I need to upgrade those all important shirt/wardrobe staples to a higher quality and better fit. You've got me doing some more searching on the labels you listed.
