China can defeat the USA.
The USA could not defeat North Vietnam, which was a half country.

What a curious comment. First: The U.S.A was not fighting North Vietnam alone. Russia and China were providing arms, training and technicians to North Vietnam, Just like now the U.S.A and other NATO countries are providing arms to Ukraine. And yet Russia has not beaten Ukraine. The difference is that the then U.S.A president did not even complain and much less threatened the Russians with starting a nuclear war for providing those arms to North Vietnam, like is doing the prepotent psychopath russian dictator Vladimir Putin now in Ukraine. Second, North Vietnam did not win that war, the U.S. Congress caused the U.S. to lose the war by not approving a request from the army to authorize an increase of U.S. troops in Vietnam from 500 thousands to 750 thousands, to start a sweep operation starting in South Vietnam all the way up to North Vietnam.
Still can't, USA is still number 1, in military power. China is number 2. In nuclear power, Russia is number 1, USA is 2, China is 3.
China cannot defeat the US and the US could have defeated Vietnam if they wanted to.
Though China has no interest in defeating or conquering USA. They're seeking for the good of their people and all humanity while steadfastly holding firm to their sovereignty territory (Chinese are sensitive to this issue especially with the history of Western powers forcefully taking control of their territories through malicious means like Hong Kong and the Opium Wars.) You don't have to guess; China WILL fight to remain in control of Taiwan (that is rightfully theirs) if push comes to shove.
And China will be able to defeat the USA if they wish to meddle in China's domestic affairs. (Taiwan is different from Ukraine; it's a small island with many vulnerabilities making it easy to command and conquer. The only concern would be US military and economic involvement - however China is fairly insulated from US economy . As for the military involvement; it'd be huge folly for the US. Yes, their economy and dominance and power is built on war - countless wars - but US would be underestimating China's resolve. Not to mention the proximity and small territory of Taiwan . The US trying to involve itself in support separatist forces in Taiwan would merely risk world war 3 but wouldn't change the outcome for Taiwan - being One China and will be secured by the Mainland.
This said, beyond meddling and poking the sleeping panda, I don't see many scenarios where China would seek military conflict. They emphasize on harmony and humanity; those are Confucius values and those are socialist values.
The problem isn't China; the problem is few in America.
