I miss Radio Shack the most. The best place for Ham Radio operators to pick up spare parts.

My former Border's became a Books A Million store, and, surprisingly, it is still in business!

When I first moved to my area of NJ fifteen years ago, there were four stores that catered to plus-sized women: Lane Bryant, Avenue, Catherine's, and Torrid. Now only Torrid is still in business.

We had Caldor in Connecticut. It was a husband and wife team named Calvin and Doris.
For years, there was W.T. Grant. That was a big store that even had it's own little
restaurant adjacent to it, named Bradford House. Both of these stores were low-priced
but a step-up from going to K-Mart. Nowadays, it's just WalMart, nothing else.

I remember Caldor, there used to be one in Chelmsford which is now a Wal-Mart.

Sounds like everything was rebranded to Macy’s then Macy’s goes belly up!!!

The Macy's at my local mall is the only anchor store still in business, but the mall itself is struggling pretty hard, so I wonder if the Macy's days are numbered.

@@jrebecca0195I think the Macy's at my local mall is still kicking amazingly. Then again, my mall is actually doing remarkably well thanks to actually adapting to change.

Yes. Macy’s ruins everything they touch. I’ve never forgiven them for their obliteration of Rich’s Department store here in Atlanta. 😢

Montgomery Ward is still around as a small mail-order catalog company.

The one store that's gone forever that I really miss is Border's. And I have this uneasy feeling in 2024 that Barnes and Noble won't be here much longer either; they've been losing big money for at least the past decade. 🥺😢😭😭

    "Bon Marche". 😂
I would assume you recorded before getting the footage is all, but the name is The Bon Marché in the logo and on Wikipedia. I dunno what happened, but I'm glad you included it. I've been randomly singing the classic parody jingle the entire video. Hahaha

It seems like there wasn’t really anything some of these stores, like Borders or Blockbuster, could do to adapt in the face of Amazon and streaming - it just wasn’t a fair fight 😕

Ames made the mistake of buying competing retailers putting them into too much debt. Previously, the had bought Zayres and those stores were rebranded Ames

Ames especially here, I remember there used to be one in the same Plaza where a local Market Basket (regional chain grocery store) and I used to go there to see what Playstation and Sega Saturn games they would have on display. I built up a nice little library that way.
