Surreal seeing you walk about Manchester. Like watching Mario having lunch with Doctor Eggman.
Brilliant! Finally got it up. Going to be a good watch later when I get home !
Two things amaze me about this video:
1) There are some real classic arcade games that John hasn't even heard of! "Buggy Boy" in this and, even more amazingly, "Shadow Dancer" in the Galloping Ghost video.
2) I say this as a Brit; do not, under _any_ circumstances, listen to John's "British" accent, it makes Dick Van Dyke's sound totally legit.
+Jamie Williamson Buggy Boy was apparently called Speed Buggy in the US. I really don't know Shadow Dancer. I never came across it.
Ahh..., so you guys never got to see the original three-screen "Buggy Boy"? It was one hell of a cabinet, John, you'd have loved it. Not one for the basement though; too damn big!
*John does not represent American knowledge of the UK culture. hehe
Awesome trip and great coverage! Cool to see Alex there too.
BRILLIANT I TOOK MY SON THEIR IN 2018 WAS AMAZING ITS GOT BIT OF EVERYTHING IM FROM MANCHESTER SO WAS CLOSE THANKS JOHN AND HARRY GREAT TOUR

John with all your experience Fixing arcades. Drill a hole down through the plastic hinge and put a metal pin in it. lol Fix the damn popcorn machine !!! Love you John keep the videos coming.
If I had a choice of one pinball game - it would be DEMOLITION MAN. Best play-ability ever and perfectly stream-lined lanes and lights. Game was made to perfection. Great sounds. Never saw the movie lol

I've been waiting for this video for a while. I was there the night you was at Arcade Club.
It's a shame the trocadero closed, you would have loved that place at it's peak.
Great job and your trip videos are always great!!!
Nice to see you in my neck of the woods John. Love your videos, for some reason youtube stopped telling me you released new stuff so I ended up searching manually!
great video John. Been waiting for the uk stuff since the skyskipper release. Nice to bump into you too. Looking forward to part 2! Glad you enjoyed the scotch egg! Hahaha.
I just went to a smaller version of something like this called Retro City Festival in Pomona, California. So much fun!
so much appreciation here, and almost every arcade is giving attention. wow! nothing like that here in california.
. forgot this was the UK where everyone is bloody kind
The On The Road videos make this channel something really special. I also like seeing you guys go to all the fast food places.
Check out his past twitch videos where we get lost at 2am looking for McDonald’s lol :/
Ha...Rad Mobile! Encino Man flashback there.
Awesome!!! Like the James Brindle interview there and your walk around all the cabs and tables. Not sure why you picked bag pipe music for landing - assumed you landed in Scotland :o)
Well, that was the street performance I had from the trip. :)
kool video man dedicated on your channel with ARCADES I LOVED THEM DAYS
Great to see you in the UK and Play - Retro Revivals is in May if you want to come back :P

Great video dude. Funny, I was chatting to Harry on the phone and he said he was on route to pick you up. Couldn't make Play Manchester sadly but looks a great event

That Mr. Do! is in a Deco cab. These had the mini cassette loaded games. Great little cabinets.
Chip shop! haha, I want that bubble bobble cabinet!!!!!!!
I was at play expo Manchester and played a lot of what was featured in this video - it's a shame I didn't get a chance to say hi! Still I had a great time and even ended up getting drunk with a load of mancity fans afterwards...
Great video John.
I noticed a comment at 26:05 saying that Rad Mobile was released after the Sonic game, "obviously", but that is in fact not the case.
The first Sonic The Hedgehog game was first released on June 23, 1991 on the Megadrive in Japan, but Rad Mobile was actually released months before, in January 1991.
This means that Sonic's first appearance in a game was as the mirror ornament in Rad Mobile.
More info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rad_Mobile#Cameos
thank you ..that damn popcorn machine.. great video John ..i do hope someone took you to a chippie
THIS is how an Arcade Expo should be done
i know. it is cool isn't it. manchester does a really good video game expo
Glad you got the ET game for your Atari. I didn't know if you already had it or not. I found it at the same thrift store where I got the Firefox DVD. I hope you enjoy it!
Great video
Great quality man
My two favorite youtubers in one video!
"Oh...oh...oh..." *chuckles*
Several nights ago, I was walking through Wal-Mart and saw a very similar model of your broken pop-corn maker. Thought to myself that John might be very interested in knowing about those. (Logic following that if one branch has these, surely they all must.) One difference was this one had a matching stand that allowed for storage of supplies. Could also free up that limited table space...and deal with that wobbly table issue. I suppose that $99 is a good price for one of those. I can't seem to find it on their web site, though. Even though they have a ton of similar models for all kinds of prices.
Then, I just totally forgot to pop in and post about them. Until I started up this video and went...well...the first sentence of this posting. ;P
Many years ago, a local arcade had that StarBlade cabinet. Really awesome game. But, they've got to be rare. Such huge machines that aren't as friendly in the square footage as most. The atmosphere and FX really complete it. As there is a PlayStation port. (Kind of rare.) It just feels a bit hollow without the extras of the arcade counterpart.
'Chip shop'. That's rather catchy, actually.
Never managed to make the Manchester show, looks way better than Blackpool. Going to go to the next one. Thanks for the great vlog
Take a drink every time John uses his bad English accent. 😅
Or when the other chap says he digs something.
Ha oops your right! Never noticed that before, I do love a lot of stuff! 😆
Harry Bolt 😂
I know Brits absolutely LOVE it when you mock their accent. :)
Harry, his _what_ is right? Which one of his possessions did you mean?
Most countries in europe had a few cabinet manufacturers. Like electrocoin in the UK, in Germany you had Hellomat etc etc. Here in Spain there where I think 4,5 manufacturers. They just installed the jamma or original boards. Shipping only the boards and making the cabs here was much cheaper than importing the whole cabinet from the USA or Japan. Some operators had the original cab, but they are very rare.
New John's Kitchen: John cooks Scotch Eggs for the first time from scratch.
That place is heaven on earth.
the Transformer Pin looks awesome.. MENTAL😂😂😂
Me and Phil from Maximum Powerup at 30:23 playing Bosconian 😀
John, the moment you put a new video on CZcams is the moment you get a thumps up from me, MAN!! Great!
Top job, John. Despite the ropey English accent. Great coverage.
Spyhunter sitdown is an awesome game. The first game I played that was two quarters. And I loved it.
No way is the game too bloody hard. It has a learning curve no doubt, and getting used to the amount of controls. If the controls are working properly, you can develop gameplay to last for quite awhile. And the music gets better the longer you play on one credit.
GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone always walks past Ballys Centaur with no comment, its a great pinball machine, 1981, fast play, 5 ball multiball, great ruleset, wicked speech and atmosphere.
There are pubs in the US that serve Scotch eggs. I've seen a lot of brewpubs (especially those that have a British theme) serve them on their appetizer menu.
Damn that was crazy, bro.
Loved seeing SEGA games, especially Space Harrier. Missing Turbo Out Run/OutRunners...
Adrian yeah typically because out run is considered the better game.
FYI, the rarest Capcom pinball isn't Big Bang Bar, even before the repro run. There were roughly 13 BBB before the repro. Capcom's Kingpin is currently the rarest at around only 4 in existence. I belive that Chicago Coin is planning also remaking this game as well. There is usually one at Califronia Extreme every year.
ah yes, The Flintstones with the backglass of Wilma and Betty blowing Fred and Barney. 39m15s note their legs sticking out the side of the car.
I saw this guy at the Hangar when I was getting Scotch Eggs ;-)
I have the sears Atari in the original box that we found on the side of the road when I was a kid about 20ish years ago. Have the E.T. game also. I think it's terrible though!
LOL I have a Quake arcade Dedicated cab. 100% working Love it, LOVE it.
KILLERANDERSON001 Holy Moly! Dude contact me,
would love to see this 👍🏻 -bolth@hotmail.co.uk
I can do that. It will be later tonight or tomorrow though, I have much running to do today. :)
Email Sent
KILLERANDERSON001 thanks!
But I havn’t received anything yet? :/ I checked all my inboxes including junk lol 😂 what’s your email?
Well, I think you may have something now. there was a - in your email and I bet it got lost.
the ZAXXON beside the PuckMan... my Game.. love it
Regarding the mega tech machine. It's essentially a modified mark 1 megadrive that uses the external din connector (not the ext edge connector) for timer control for arcade operations.
There's 8 cartridge ports which you can install various selection of megadrive and master system games. The hardware was tweaked to disallow cheaper retail Mega Drive games to be played on the system, and likewise, Mega-Tech games will not run properly on a home Mega Drive console. Also uses Japanese mould for the cartridge.
There is however a adapter you can buy to use retail carts on the arcade hardware.
Sionyn Jones
I still have a faulty Mega Tech board in the wardrobe.
I tried to repair it a few years ago, by replacing practically every logic IC, but it refused to live.
From the start, I suspected that one of the Sega custom ICs was faulty, which is on the Mega Drive side.
Only problem is - that custom chip is only used on the earlier model Japanese Mega Drive or Genesis, so I bought a US one, but it had a newer revision motherboard inside which didn't have that chip. sigh
So, I gave up on spending any more money on trying to repair the MT, and the original cabinet got converted to use Hyperspin.
(but luckily keeping both of the original CRT monitors, using some VGA to CGA converters.)
To answer Alex and John's question (and second what you said), the Mega Tech carts use a different pinout to the MD / Genny carts, but the same physical connector.
The carts contain both an 8-bit and 16-bit ROM (for the SMS and MD sides), so you need an adapter to play standard MD / Gen carts.
IIRC, there is a standard ROM image that people use for the SMS ROM on the adapter boards.
That allows the SMS to boot, which in turn allows the MD / Gen cart to boot.
Sionyn Jones
So yep, the Mega Tech is essentially a standard (but early) MD and SMS on one board, where the SMS displays the instructions for each game, and I believe can also control which of the 8 cart slots to boot from.
(as well as just having a countdown timer option which auto-switches cart slots.)
Quite an interesting system really.
I might still keep an eye out for another early MD / Gen, but it would help if the sellers weren't so hesitant to lift the lid so I can confirm that it has the appropriate chip before buying.
(To be fair though, the metal EMI shielding in the Mega Drive is razor sharp. I found out just how sharp when I went to wipe some dust off of the cart connector once. lol)
Nice video!
As far as I am aware Rad Mobile came out 3-6 months before Sonic and this is in fact the very first time Sonic was in a Video Game.
I like that, chip shop cabinet! Wonder if there is a Laundromat cabinet!
As if you were round the corner from me. Hope you enjoyed dude.
I know where there is a Silent Hill arcade machine. Horsham, West Sussex. It was in the bowling alley, it was always down, but if it's still there I'm sure they would sell it for the right price..haha. however I remember it being a huge unit.
Fraser Lloyd I live near Horsham where do you mean ?
steve ridley it was the bowling alley and laser place. Just above cue's nightclub
Fraser Lloyd Hey mate, this is Harry from the vid, could you give me a shout about this, super appreciate that! :D
Bolth@hotmail.co.uk
Glad I watched through... I was about to ask if you got some gas station eggs.
Regarding the switch mode power supply replacement. Go for it. They're just better power supplies period compared to liner power supply.
The only caveat is but a decent switching supply. Switch mode power supplies by there nature generate high-frequency noise that can interfere with sensitive electronic equipment, but as long as it decent supply it will suppress it properly. Just be careful.
I need my Johns Arcade fix!
When are you going to put the vinyl John's arcade decal on the top of the table it sure would make it look better. love your videos man always waiting for the next one
I want to do that as soon as possible!
Hey. Rerember me =D 31:47
I just picked up a Rolling Thunder yesterday at 18:48.
Resume of the trip: John smiled a lot not really knowing what the people were saying to him
You guys must've been somewhere inbetween Manchester and London as you caught a South Western train to Waterloo - Alex's place...? I'm guessing the station you get on at was Alex's local one and though I don't recognise it I'm guessing it's in / he lives in one of the Home Counties...?
Can you pop-rivet or replace the screws in the top hinge of the popcorn machine?
You showed the Silent Hill shooter on your Galloping Ghost video
UK represent!!!
a lot of chippies say Fish Bar on their signs but no one actually calls them that haha :)
Those are not just scotch eggs. Those are M&S scotch eggs :-P
Definitely champion pub is an unrated game would love one anybody got one.
Some of the DIY shops in the UK can analyse your paint and make you a paint mix, or a paint suppliers could analyse it with their machine and make the colour you need? Or like me I could just mix the paints and make the right colour, or find somebody who works in body shop they should be able to make the colour for you. No you want celery salt on your Scotch egg with a bit of white pepper! You have Creme De La Creme of eggs. You were right outside M&S they do a runny yolk Scotch egg? You have to make your own John.
Why don't you just bolt your door hinge on the top back to the door? The holes look a bit big so put some washers behind
You hoping to come back to Play Expo this year possibly? Would be awesome to say hello =D
TO OUR FRIENDS ACROSS THE POND:
ENJOY/BE GRATEFUL FOR THE STRONG GAMING/ARCADE CULTURE YOU GUYS STILL HAVE. ARCADES AND EXPOS LIKE THIS ARE DISAPPEARING IN THE U.S.
No Manchester band covers by The Kill Screens? (Joy Division, New order, Smith’s, Stone Roses, JAMES, Happy Monday’s, Oasis, etc) ....j/k thanks for video John!
Ah, I knew there had to be some awesome bands from Manchester! I love all of those bands.
1:19:49 Oh no your co-host is dying. T_T Good stuff, scotch eggs yum. :)
John, when are we going to see the Popcorn machine fix episode?
That T2 pinball machine at 49:16 is unreal. Is it purely custom, or was it built from mods and addons from various websites?
I’m lucky enough to own it. It’s a restored original modded to perfection. A real labour of love by the restorer
The decals and translite were made by Retro Refurbs in the UK but the restorer did a fantastic job of the whole machine. Truly is stunning.
The song at 5:44 sounds like Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).
