- My buddy and I were clearing a right of way for the electric lines and came across this fawn trapped in the fall path of the tree we were about to trim. He was tangled in some thorns and was pretty shaken up after we cut him loose, so we started rubbing his belly to calm him down.... which worked a little too well, as you can see.
He followed us around the job site like a lost puppy for about an hour until I noticed a doe watching us from the hillside. Assuming this was his mother, I carried him about halfway up the hill while she watched attentively. I sat him down, he ran straight to her, and they walked off together.
He’s probably thinking to himself, “Shit, no wonder cats and dogs go crazy for this.”

It depends on the connection that cat feels toward the one trying to rub the belly. I don't rough house with my cats, they rough house with eachother. With me its about comfort so I guess knowing that I won't try to tickle or start play fighting, its a trust thing.

The description mentions that he was returned to his momma that was watching nearby. And I had a random thought about that. Animals must be very bewildered by human kindness. In most cases, a predator species scooping up your child means your child is gone, but he just showed the little deer some kindness and sent it on its way. It serves no advantage for humans to be kind, we just choose to be, and that concept must be very alien to a lot of animals.

They are not bewildered, and there's also reasons why kindness exists, it's not exclusive to humans. We are also not predators of deer. While we do eat them, we aren't primarily adapted to hunt them nor they adapted to run from us. Kindness, or rudeness, is an awareness of the behavior of other creatures. They're doing construction, it's no place for a deer, yet the deer is there, and vice versa there are humans in front of the deer and they're trying to move it, the deer doesn't know what to do either. So in the absence of any obvious way to interact with each other, they communicate what's on their mind, in either a friendly or a rude way. The deer just wants the humans to stop, the humans want to move the deer but not be rude about it. And so there they would stand until momma intervened or the humans decided they were ok with being rude. Kindness exists because everything's easier when everyone cooperates, but rudeness exists for when a peaceful way can't be reached.

Yeah, this video just kind of annoyed me. Everyone is "dawwing" in the comments, but it seemed what was actually happening is not what everyone thinks. The feeling of falling as the guy SLOWLY moved him probably scared him enough to cry out. Being held he probably was just terrified enough to remain still and silent.
I doubt this was some fairly tale where this wild animal suddenly was domesticated in 5 minutes of petting.
There's another video where a fawn comes running up to someone filming and then collapses. Same thing here, everyone acts like it came to get pet. But really, it collapsed out of terror when realizing it ran up to a human.

At my uncle’s house near the woods we always would go feed deer in the evening. One baby would not let us leave, just chased us around until we picked it up for cuddles. over the years I watched her grow up into a beautiful deer and she would bring her babies over too. Thank god hunting is illegal here. I still see her from time to time

@spybolt2wave we would find at least one a year that was abandoned. We had a farm back then. What is one more mouth to feed. They would eventually walk away when they were older. We never pinned them. Had one doe for 3 years. Her first time she had a fawn or fawns she never came back.

Caught a little guy in my backyard, and god damn they really are like this. The camera simply does NOT pick up how ear shatteringly LOUD these little nuts are.

Bunnies too. There was hole full of baby bunnies in my backyard when I was a kid. I was able to catch one and it started screeching like "EEEEEEE EEEEEE EEEEEE EEEEEE" and so i was afraid that its mom was gonna come bite me ore something so i dropped it and ran back inside...my original plan was to bring it inside and ask my parents if i could keep it, y'know cuz some ppl have pet bunnies? yeah lol 😂

Wild animals tend to avoid humans but when they discover that our hands are the most effective scratcher they stay lol
I believe the reason humans have been able to domesticate so many animals is because of their dexterous hands. Most animals have to settle with rubbing up against a tree or a rock, but if they have a human friend they can get right down to the spot that itches.
My pets HATE when I cut my nails 😂 they want the 10 scratchers with elongated scritchers 24/7
