Smoke, speed and precision driving… just another day in the office for Mad Mike.
At the highest level of professional drifting, race cars are thrown sideways at speeds topping 200km/h. They are precision instruments engineered for a purpose.
Kiwi drift driver Mad Mike Whiddett and his newest - and arguably craziest - addition to his Mazda factory-backed stable of machinery yet, a Mazda MX-5 named RADBUL, is a fine replica of this.
Down at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell, Otago, New Zealand, Mad Mike Whiddett takes his custom four-rotor, twin turbo 26B rotary engine and drifts around the challenging and technical track, showing us that he has the skills, the team and the machine to put the car exactly where he wants.

i could see that it is a 4 rotor twin so it putting out at least 1000+ hp.
the car is putting out about 1200bhp but its claimed it can do 1500 with the current setup
With a mixture of 100RON gasoline and Mobil 2-stoke oil in the fuel cell, 1,032hp on a low boost pressure setting was the result of the inaugural dyno tuning session at PPRE. The engine was built for much more though, and according to Warren there’s 1,500hp easy and that capability would be mated with short wheelbase chassis that tips the scales at less than 1,000kg.
Eric Nunez makes 1200 hp claims it can do 1500 weighs about 1500 so yea horse per pound

I don't know about the horsepower, but it definitely has enough torque to open a fresh bottle of ketchup.
Pretty sure it's right around the 1200 mark, seen some things say 1400+ though.. so not too sure. Insane either way for a mx5 lol

Not really. It's a super light car and even with all season tires I managed to drift my stock miata (albeit, not very well). But it's easier than you think.

yeah but with more pressure on the rear axle he can burn more rubber because there is more grip you need to compensate with power i think

+TheBonusChallenge Actually at those speeds you kinda need grip or it would just slide 'round, hence the horsepowers of the d1 cars to get the tires spinning even with the downforce.
+TheBonusChallenge Grip is very much necessary, without grip their would be no way to control the drifts
+DutchCrusader its not for grip its for the tire smoke to get a better scoring in drifting events
