I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but Urban Meyer designed this specific series of plays. It's no wonder how well it went. If Davie had any brains (which he doesn't) he would have promoted Meyer to offensive coordinator. It not only would have saved his job, but it would've spared us Irish fans of Tyrone Willingham and Charlie Weis since Meyer most likely would've been hired as the HC once Davie left. On the other hand, Monk Malloy was a total fucking idiot, so things probably wouldn't have worked out that way.

      Absolutely correct on all points.

And this is the series that Bob Davie let then-wide receivers coach Urban Meyer call the plays, after he and many of the players had begged him to give Meyer a shot. ND remained offensively flat in the rest of the game (although it won) because Davie stupidly reverted to Kevin Roger's medieval offense. Had Davie woken up to Meyer's talent at the time and hired him as the OC, the fortunes of ND football for the decade may have turned out quite differently.

I agree with you wholeheartedly is new host left that's cool in great position with great talent I mean this kid was a freshman I remember him too and the season they had cuz he ended up being on the cover of Sports Illustrated I think the next year but it's funny how you see how his to return them looking like damn that's Urban Meyer's why was he not offered the job stuff like that disgust me the reason why they're in the situation there now and they still stabbing in on offense under the Brian Kelly ever it's never going to change until they realize they need a coach who knows how to coach the game.

Coach Lou Holtz left the school in a great position with talented players and to see Urban Meyer as the OC he should have been the coach but that's the result

ND insulted Urban Meyer in their cheap offer ( a job Urban Meyer had in his contract as an out) in 2005. ND got Charlie, a good offensive coach and recruiter. Terrible assistants and defense

It was a massive blunder to hire Willingham after the O'Leary debacle. That whole incident gave ND every excuse in the world to "settle" for Meyer.

I didn't understand why didn't they go to him from the beginning anyway right out he was right there on the staff for years under Holtz

Why couldn't we have just canned Davie and held on to Urban and promoted him? :(

@@Sportsgeek1991 Not true at all. He went right to Bowling Green and turned them around. Went to Utah and was successful too. If we didn't keep him the first time, we 100% should have got him in 2005 but let him go to Florida instead and the rest is history.

A lot of those same plays and formations at UF and OSU and Lovecchio comes right over to Urban Meyer. What could have been ND future coach

Bob , boll game Davie .. bleeping idiot N D has not had a coach since Louie . Now we have the sorry small game coach who knows squat about a passing attack. No ND QB has sniffed the pros. Clausen couldn't be a backup but he started for 4 years at ND..Sad Kelly's whole legacy is summed up in two words..............Declan Sullivan... The man should have been fired immediately

The football program would have won, but the school would have lost. Call me an old bastard, but I still believe Notre Dame stands apart from other schools and stands for something more than W's. Urban Liar would have ruined Notre Dame. The administration allowed Lou Holtz to take a few "questionable" players. Some became exemplary Notre Dame men (Tony Rice ans Chris Zorich spring to mind) who have contributed much more than football wins. Urban Liar would have turned the campus into a nightmare.

And future ND head coach, Tyrone Willingham is the head coach of Stanford in this game. Color commentator Pat Haden would end up being the AD of USC.
