- The old "redbird" cars are made up of several different car classes: the R26, R28, R29, R33ML, R33WF, R36WF, and R36ML. The R36MLs were a very small fleet of cars, of which only a single pair, 9542-9543, remains.
This pair narrowly escaped being stripped for disposal in 2003 and was stored awaiting restoration. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the retirement of the redbirds, this pair was restored to operating status and successfully completed a test run. Here we see this pair, alongside R36WF and R33S cars also preserved in the vintage fleet, running on the November 4 special ticketed "Nostalgia Run", operated by the NY Transit Museum. Enjoy!

It was so cool seeing these Redbirds and Bluebirds in action for a day. I figured East 180th Street was a good spot to do because it was no worries of having photobombing by other trains.
These look great! Also happy to see the last R36ML cars.
I believe the main difference from r33ml is that the lights blink, right?
I hope that the R26, R28 and the R29 trains run on museum trips one day.
I remember when the Redbirds used to run on the Pelham (6) line during the 1990's. Those were the R33 and the R29 trains.
Westinghouse R29 and R36 ML, with some WF R36s thrown in.
Sadly, I missed it+I was in school but's it's really cool to see these old train's back in service for nostalgia runs!
Redbirds Is My Favorite Subway Car Since Childhood In The 90's And Early 2000's I'm Remember We Took 2 And 5 Trains The Redbird Train For A Family Trip To The Bronx Zoo
Great nostalgia run!!💚💚👌
Rode them extensively in my HS days. E 180th St (2,5) was home. Redbirds primarily as we seldom saw the Flushing line Bluebirds up north. Great to see the revival, restoration, buildup around E 177th St / West Farms Sq.
I caught the TOMC @ 138th St-Grand Concourse last Thursday morning
Gefeliciteerd met het grote assortiment bedrijfsvaardig museummaterieel in New York !
@14:16 Wow! How many RFW Cameras are on that window.
12:35 this the was the place in 2000 photo of the first time the r142 was introduced
I went to the afternoon ride and I should have gone on the fourth car (R36ML) that's where my favorite NYTM worker was, "Sara Thomson"
Edit: she was the designer of Transit Quest
Seeing the first four cars as redbirds fools one into thinking that the whole train is like that and that they're still running.
My childhood my family rides the 7 line with the redbirds in queens from 45 Court square to times square. (Before the Hudson yards extension was there.)
Redbirds r33 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Birds... I'm surprised they didn't set the front sign to South Ferry instead of Bowling Green. At what point did they cut 9308 from the train?
cool
I was in world fair car 9308
8:06 how did the train go on the opposite direction
Wow! Very cool! 😀😀
Where did the two R36 Subway Cars
#9542 and #9543 coming from?
R36 MLs were stored at the siding track at the NYTM (the north track east of the museum platform) for several years, before they went to 207th.
13:56 I found keebz
I was a conductor/inducted nov30/98

We always laughed when we saw. "FOAMERS" going nuts over a train car.
They always tried to buddy buddy with us,
but we were ordered to 'stand down' and NOT FRATERNIZE, as some were psychotic/ dangerous and were always being arrested- after seeing this vid I see FOAMERS are alive and well !
Glad I'm retired
Like we always said
TAKE THE TEST LOFL
Not including in Old South Ferry Loop Station in board the nostalgia runs
