I did an interior on a minivan a few months ago. The owner specified that he wanted a deep clean when he contacted me which was perfect since it’s my only interior package. When he came to my garage and I gave him the price he backed off and said he really didn’t need a deep clean. My mistake was continuing the conversation because at that point he began to haggle on price. Ten minutes later I let him talk me down to $150 on a mom van for a “light” detail. It was a gift and a curse. I quickly realized this was easily a $300+ job even without the carpet shampooing that was removed from the cleaning. I was angry the entire detail but it was a blessing. At the three hour mark I stopped and said this is all he is getting which was worth so much more than $150. After that I decided to never again negotiate with a terrorist. My price is my price. If it’s too high for you I probably wouldn’t want to work on your filthy vehicle anyways. That’s why I love my ceramic coating customers. They know it’s a high ticket item and there is never any sticker shock. They want quality and are willing to pay for it and are by far the best tippers.

Tell him a light detail is basically a blow out, vaccum, wipe down and a protectant on the surfaces.
Never negotiate your time, labor, and expertise. Anyone who doesn't value what you do is a nightmare waiting to happen anyway. Walk away immediately. Let them clean it themselves.
Can you imagine going to this guy's place of work and telling his boss in front of him you should pay him less money this week and give him extra responsibility? Offensive... but somehow, it's okay to treat (manipulate) the detailing business owner with that level of disrespect
We’ve all got that story bro. I do at least two correction and coat jobs a week. It was a climb, but I’m at the point where I no longer do minivans. They suck your time and customers never want to pay you jack s***.
Ivan is totally right. I offer wash, claymitt and spray wax as my starting exterior and another detailer was astonished I don’t polish if the customer isn’t paying for for it. We don’t do for our ego what we want we do what the customer pays for. 90 percent the time they want clean and shiny and don’t even know what a swirl mark is

Retired Chicago Police here. Hello from Chicago and our soon to be salt encrusted streets (which ultimately lead to salt encrusted carpets!). I LOVED this video. I incorporated my business several years ago. Ivan, you're absolutely right-do not to work cheap. I operate the same way as you. I'm direct: either the client wants the car looking brand new, or they don't. That's what I offer. Being direct is the best way. I'm going change my strategy. Only do ceramic coating paint enhancement. Mini detail in and out. No more trash cars. I'm done doing 5 to 6 hr on the interior.

I really like your philosophy Yvan. I've been detailing for the past 18 months and I love it. I've never offered interior and exterior detail together in one service, I've always considered them to be two different services. I use steam as much as I can when I'm doing a full Interior detail. I will use my carpet extractor if i think it will give me better results and speed up the process but hearing you mention that you never use an extractor machine was surprising to me and I would love to know the process you use when doing a disaster detail. I appreciate the knowledge you guys are willing to share to the detailing community especially to the young and upcoming detailing businesses like mine. 👍

Nick, I think you hit it perfectly on the head and more of the audience could relate to you when you mentioned the $150 interior detail. in my area in North Central Ohio my interior details typically run from 100 up to $150. I have done amazing transformations on vehicles that were completely trashed with three hours of work and which I typically charge around a minimum of $50 an hour. Great video guys keep up the good work!

After watching Yvan bonnet clean with McKees Carolina Home & Patio Foaming Carpet & Spot Cleaner with a rotory, this is my prefered way to clean fabrics in vehicles. My secondary way is with Encap DS2. Works Great!!

Tip for cloth seats: buy a $2 sea sponge from any department store in the bath section.
Mix up your carpet cleaning solution in a bucket, put the sponge in, and wring the sponge out into the solution a few times.
This will create a very dry foam (and an insane amount of foam meaning less product needed) that can then be scooped up and applied with your media of choice, can even use the sponge. This will apply enough cleaner to begin lifting any soil/stains but so little moisture you can dry the entire seat with one towel and it will be dry within minutes. I recommend an encapsulation cleaner from a carpet cleaning distributor or an all purpose cleaner mixed about 30:1. The seat will dry so quickly reapplication will not present a challenge.
That $2 sponge if rinsed out and taken care of can last you 10 years.

Great video. I've been doing a wash,clay mitt with clean soapy water as lube , rinse and use C2V3 as a drying agent. Leaves ultra slick protection. Throw in a vacuum , wipe down interior and windows. $200. Enhancement is $100 p hour afterwards.

I've been doing some market research in my area. I agree with the prices you gave out for interiors, as interiors are hard, time consuming work. Although even the highest end shop in my area is only charging $120 to $200 and doing absolutely everything inside, including shampoo and steam. Seems like this is going to be a serious challenge to sell it higher than everyone else.

I was wondering, for the customers looking for perfection (2+step correction) and are willing to pay for it, assuming the paint gauge reads alright would you still recommend offering a paint enhancement service that is easier for me to provide, and cheaper for them and will save paint? I guess the exception would be if it is a garage queen or something of the sort that is properly maintained, but it makes me nervous providing a service that they may only be able to get once or twice safely since they may just say it will be properly maintained... But I also want to give the customer what they want if they are the few that really want to get it as perfect as possible.

Hi! love the content and the practicality. on my lowest package interior we do a hoover of floors and seats, wipedown of seat, doors, dash and centre console etc. Also whilst using a detailing brush to remove dirt from cracks around the dash, console and doors. Is there anything you would suggest I eliminate from my lowest package to save me more time as it takes a while!?

First of all… I AM A FANATIC WHEN IT COMES TO DETAILING MY VEHICLES…. Over many years I have done this for several people…. NOT as a business….more of a favor… however I do charge but not so much as to make a lot of money…. MY MAIN REASON OF THIS COMMENT IS TO SAY …. WHERE I LIVE….. MOST PEOPLE ARE OVERWHELMED AT PRICES OVER 120$ ….. LET ALONE MAKING A 120 dollars per hour…..profit…🤪👍🏼

Amazing video. Charge what you are worth from the start. I do photography on the side. I did team photos for a team last year and charged like 10 bucks a head. Was offered 50 a head this year and said i dont know, because its 40 hours of work. You have to determine what level of hassle you are willing to deal with for the money you make.

Hi there this is a weekend warrior turning into a business here! I had a quick question about packages, I feel like you mentioned it in the video but I want to confirm. Is it better to not put packages and offer the exterior wash, and the exterior wash by themselves? Then have the rest add on? So it’ll be like going to a restaurant and picking exactly what you want/need. Love you this content and your wisdom, you guys are awesome!

I have 1 exterior detail service, then I offer 4 exterior service choices. Seems to work well and be pretty comprehensive to customers. I look at the competition in the area and they way that they advertise their packages confuses even me and I even understand the language..
Here in Colorado the Pet Friendly State 90% of the vehicles comes with pet hair a lot of pet hair. Sometimes we charged $300 extra just for the pet hair removal

I would say a mini detail is deep cleaning everything minus the carpet and seat/upholstery shampoo. Then its a full interior detail at that point.

Cleaning glass was always a pain until I used a applicator and onr and a plush drying towel, never had to clean them more than once unless it has dried dog drool or something crazy even smoking film is removed. I spray 5 sprays into the applicator and go over everything twice then use dry it using a high GSM towel. I literally gave away all my glass cleaners and towel.

Hi, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos, but can’t find anything on removing water spots. I saw a few that says polishing will NOT remove the water spots.

For old encrusted water spots start by using our DIY Detail Water Spot Remover to remove the minerals, then you will need to polish to remove the scars.
I like rinseless wash as a glass cleaner. I wring out a microfiber towel that’s in a rinseless 256:1 dilution, wipe window down then dry with a waffle weave towel. Hasn’t failed me yet.

Why does it take me 5+ hrs to do a full detail? I'm only about 7 months into my business and detailing, so I understand getting in reps is gonna help over time. I'm mobile only and I have to pull all my tools out at the site since I don't have reals n everything like that. Set up and tare down take my 30-40 min total. I tend to feel kind of like I haven't done enough a lot of time even though my clients are happy, so I'm trying to find that line. Thanks for all you guys do and your awesome products.

can you use any iron remover as a clay lubricant? I have some Sonax fallout and iron remover, it mentions nothing about a clay lube so i assume no. I def need to get the DIY clay towel and iron remover soon!

Because my takeaway from this video is that doing interior cleaning is time consuming and not the most profitable offer you can make as a detailer. What's your thoughts? When using the iron remover as a clay lube .won't it stink up the clay towel? Also. It stinks like dead skunks. Who wants to breath that through the entire car? Also gloves sure but if that stuff gets on your skin that cannot be good......please advise.

I have an interesting conundrum. I worked for a mobile detailer since the summer to learn and take over the business. I bought it less than a month ago, essentially I paid for his client list and training while he paid me a whopping 20 bucks an hour lol. So here's my issues...his clients are mainly friends and associates and he gave everyone a deal. They're not my friends and I've told a few the price is going up...and they're not all happy. He did a wash, wheels and vacuum n windows for 50 bucks. I can't seem to do it well in much less than an hour n a half. Details where he'd clay and apply carnuba paste wax was usually 200 or 250 and took 6 hours. He said he'd promote to clients that I'd be taking over and prices will rise and they'd understand more from him than me, but he never followed thru.
A clay and wax 6 hours is long I use rinsless wash and a clay towel with a ceramic detailer as clay lube and it takes me about an hour for the whole exterior. I also think that you should get more customers so losing customers to price won’t be a problem, because you will be acquiring more customers that also value what you do more, and on top of that you do the same work for more just better overall, at the end of the day it is a business you need to have money to invest into your business and turn a profit. Basically raise prices get more customers and even when customers will leave the rising prices will make up for that.
@Aiden McKiernan yes I agree with that totally. And as I continue into spring and summer I'll present a price increase sheet and include the description of my services. Something my mentor never did. I'm loving the business tho and I have a full schedule with his client base. One day, week and month at a time I'll evolve it as I go! Thanks for your input!

Look at adding efficiency where you can. One way of increasing income is lowering labour times.

Efficiency is a skill that’s practiced and learned. One tip is to film yourself working, then watch it to see where you’re loosing time, taking extra steps etc.

I like the idea of a wash, clay and ceramic gloss business. But I don't like interior detailing. Is it possibly to just offer the WCC and no interior EVER?
Yes, many do.
Great. Even just two a day is $200 a day. That's a good living. But where it gets complicated is getting the customer on a weekly basis. And even if you do, they won't need clay/ceramic every week.

Alright, so say you do a compact sedan like mine, a Corolla. You say to charge $100 for WCC. If it's just the wash, do we charge $75? Thank you so much for quickly responding, and I apologize you've covered this more in depth somewhere. It's just most detailers in my area dont' have a business like this. It's either full detailing/polish, or nothing.

What happens if for what ever reason your customer is dissatisfied with the service and refuses to pay when you are done? Let's say on a mobile detail at the customers home...
Make sure you have before and after pictures and if the value is worth the effort go to small claims court 😔

200-250$ service, 20 a day, that employee is bringing you up to 4-5K a day. That's 100k a month, 1.2 Mil a year in revenue from just that 1 employee!
We were charging $99 at the time. But is was over $500k per year in sales generated

They mean ceramic protection “like a wax” not a ceramic coating.
Ivan used to recommend rinseless wash for windows and interiors. Does he still use and recommend rinseless for Windows?

Im a bit confused here. DIY is do it yourself. So are you advertising to every car owner as to how best to detail their own cars or is to help detailers in their own businesses?
Every person who cleans their car is doing it themselves, whether it’s an enthusiast in the driveway or a pro. Lots of enthusiasts have thoughts about charging for their services so this video is for those who might be exploring the possibility of making a little money on the side for example
In my opinion it it sad to see that also this channel is more and more about business things. Same as on many other bigger detailing channels, wich also nowadays are more about money instead of having fun. But that was the reason why I watched them. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show like someone says often. Having fun with the hobby, dont think about money, business and all those serious stuff. In short terms: all the things DIY Detail claims to stand for at their beginning. Ok it seems like talking about detailing business is what is nowadays the cool thing on youtube because most of the channels do it. Dont get me wrong: good content, I also like Yvans Business Channel. But I think making a DIY Brand and DIY channel more and more to a business channel is not a good development and the wrong place and does not fit. Even if business can also be fun, thinking and talking about those serious thinks will always spoil the mood. Hope the original mood and values of this channel will come back.

This is an infomercial for their products. I came for the information. But it’s not at all what it claims to be.
Yes, we are a brand that sells products , but the techniques we teach work with others.
I enjoy cleaning my car with all the products etc. The majority of my products would lean towards Meguiars.
I just struggle to agree with detailers prices and quotes. They are not working in mines or on rooftops, they are not working in the sun etc. where do they justify $150 p/hr ?
I work 12hr shifts in Industrial manufacturing, and a car cleaner is trying to convince me they’re worth 3 times as much.
Detailers should be on par with mechanics. The overhead for a good shop is somewhere around 80-90$ per hour on average ( rent, utilities, communications, taxes, marketing, products, insurance ). Then you need factor in salaries, wear, and profit.
@@diydetailofficial I’d agree as a business with staff & a building. But Joe Public working out of his garage advertising on FB or word of mouth, is I believe the majority & demanding ridiculous prices.

Love your guy's videos but nobody's worth $120 an hour to detail. That's why I'm doing it myself. I'm not making somebody else. Wealthy. You're not a mechanic. It's bad enough that mechanics rip us off at 100 plus dollars an hour. SERVERLY overpriced!!
When you consider all the costs involved, no detailers are getting rich at $ 120 per hour.
I work on cars and detail … but id much rather pay someone to detail my car vs work on it .. both areas you are paying for the knowledge and the experience they have while performing the job and tools etc .. but most mechanic work is fairly simple and its just priced that way because people dont do it themselves nor do they want to for the most part… so its all about what people do and dont want to do/know
Would you rather have someone detail your car for 120$ an hour .. or have a shop quote you $115.99 to change out a cabin air filter 😂 (this was an actual quote i heard my co worker talk about) that i did for her in 5 minutes
