1:34:50 What disqualifies applicants the most?
To be brutally honest, if you really want to be appointed by USAFA, identify the congressional districts that don't have a single applicant to USAFA and move there. As long as you meet the minimum requirements set by the academy, you will gain a congressional nomination and therefore gain an appointment assuming you don't have any medical disqualifications. From what I know, there are approximately 30 districts nationwide that don't have anyone applying to the service academies. By law if one of those states have ANY applicant in a given year, USAFA needs to accept them since every district in the nation gets at least one slot per year. Usually Colorado Springs and Virginia/DC area are extremely competitive for USAFA, due to the academy's location in the Springs and high military brat population in Virginia/DC. Those districts oftentimes get additional slots that were not used by 'non-competitive' districts that don't have any applicant.
The congressional district system isn't perfectly equitable, and there are some districts much more competitive than others. Moving to a different district isn't sometimes feasible for many families and includes a considerable amount of risk (some have other kids, or, what if your child's college preferences change after moving?). However, Title 10 federal law mandates that an Academy must offer at least one appointment per eligible district. In 2022-2023 for USNA, for example, all but 5 districts in the US had a qualified applicant. (Source: Institutional Effectiveness Assessment Report, USNA). It's not straightforward which districts those are and they can vary from year to year.
I am going into High School next year- Got accepted into USNA STEM; Cant wait to start my Application to USAFA and USNA! Thanks for making these vids! ❤
You're welcome!!!
I had a counselor in high school (1970s) suggest to me that I should apply to the USAFA, after I told him I was enlisting in the Air Force. First time in my life I laughed at an adult. "Are you kidding?? Do you know what it takes to get in there??" I didn't have the classes, I didn't have the extracurricular activities.
I asked and I received, thanks so much Academy Endeavors, you have helped me map out my academy application journey. I got into the USAFA summer seminar and will start my application at the end of my senior year. Thanks.
🙌🙌🙌
I hope you mean you mean you will start your application the end of your junior year, which should be now if you got into Summer Seminar. You will/should be interviewing, and securing nominations this coming Fall. Good luck.
@@user-jm3bw1ok9n yeah i mean junior year
Thanks so much for the wealth of information offered in your channel! My daughter tried to do Part 1 of the USAFA application but it says she could not proceed to complete it because she’s still 16. She is a rising Senior but her birthday is on 8/2. Any advice? She went to CVW and is heading to the Summer Seminar of the USNA in June.
The minimum age requirement for Academies are that you must be at least 17 by July 1st on the year you enter the Academy. So your daughter might be too young, and might need to apply the following year. www.academyadmissions.com/requirements/#:~:text=Be%20at%20least%2017%20but,Be%20of%20good%20moral%20character.

I know this is very late to say this Should apply now? i got back to school on Aug 7 and I do JROTC in high school and i will be a junior this years I don't know what to do at the moment
What about options for homeschoolers? I should mention that in California there is not such language as "homeschool" they are declared as a private school-home based.
For homeschool families, the most likely option is to take what is available to you: spanish, french, etc. Those foreign languages still meet the requirement, even if they aren't considered "strategic" by the DoD.
I am currently 14 years old and will soon attend high school. I live in Pheonix, AZ and have already started my journey by winning a student of the year award at my school and a national award. How can I prepare for the academy? What should I try out for in high school, and what can i currently do?
Great work on earning those awards!! We do offer an Underclassman package where you will receive a 360 Assessment to evaluate your competitiveness compared to the typical admit, and a personalized gameplan to maximize your chances of acceptance. As of now I am still a U.S. national that was born in American Samoa but currently resides here in the states. Is it possible for me to get a nomination from there instead of getting it here in the states?
I have a GPA of 3.2 in my high school. Do you think I could get into the Air Force Academy?
A GPA alone is not enough information to assess competitiveness. The transcript has 4 critical components beyond merely GPA.
1) your performance compared to your peers (class rank), 2) the competitiveness of your high school, 3) the difficulty of your classes (AP/Hon/IB/DE), and 4) your performance in specific classes (Calc, PreCalc, Chem, Phys, Bio).
Question: My school has a varsity JROTC drill team and i’ve received three varsity letters for that do they count as a sports letters. They are the same ones for example a varsity football athlete would receive. ty
Yes, Drill Team is included in the extracurricular dropdown menu of the USAFA application's athletic activities section.
Will being in the jrotc competitive armed drill team help with my son’s chances since he is not part of any other sports.
In the Athletics section of the application, they do have a dropdown for "Drill Team" so you would get credit for Drill Team as an athletic. However, we would encourage you to consider doing more than just drill team to become more competitive.
Question: Could I add different leadership positions in my Jrotc program? ex. I am XO and regulation commmander. Would that count as one or two leadership positions?
Yes, there will be a dropdown menu under "Activities" that allows you to choose between "JROTC Member", "JROTC Officer" and "JROTC Senior Leadership". You will also be able to select the years (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th) that you participated at that activity.
Is not taking honors or AP classes counted against you if they are not offered at your school in that subject?
Great question. Two points here. First, Your guidance counselor should submit your transcript and school profile to the Academies when you apply, and within those documents, it should be clear what is offered at your school so the Academies can determine if you are challenging yourself. We recommend talking with your guidance counselor about that before applying. Second, recommend looking into Dual Enrollment (DE) options at your local community college or online colleges. Academies view DE credits similarly to AP or Honors.
i got a 3.67 gpa in my freshman year of highschool, im about to leave my sophomore year with a 4.0 but i was never really got involved with my school or did any extracurriculars during my first two years, do i still have a good chance if I start working harder after my sophmore year? Only until recently I never considered getting into USAFA
Great question, and it significantly depends on the district you reside in, what school you go to and how quickly you can get onto varsity and obtain leadership roles on campus. Regardless, even if you don't succeed, it won't be a waste, because doing so will boost your competitiveness for other colleges and ROTC as well!
Please , how much does a cadet at the USAFA has per month?
what plan should i get if im an upcoming junior?
For 2nd semester sophomores, the options are 1) academyendeavors.com/underclassman-package now, or 2) waiting until academyendeavors.com/pro-package opens in Nov of Junior year.
How do I put in my sat and act scores if i am a junior and haven’t taken them yet?
You will most likely submit your SAT/ACT scores during the year that you apply. You can also opt to automatically send your scores to specific universities for free: satsuite.collegeboard.org/help-center/there-fee-sending-scores
Hello I am a sophomore going into junior year however I am homeschooled i am doing football and I have a job I am also going to dual enrollment is me being homeschooled a hindrance or is it going to help me
Homeschool is only a hindrance if it gets in the way of leadership roles and extracurricular involvement. But it doesn't have to be. We have had several homeschool clients do very well!
If I am an avid snowboarder but my school doesn’t have a team does that still count as athletics?
Competitive varsity sports and club sports count. Hobbies do not.
Do I have a chance as an international student?
Two thoughts here: 1) are you a US citizen applying from overseas? If so, yes, you still have a shot, and you'll most likely apply to the congressional district where you are domiciled. 2) if you are a non-US citizen, then won't apply through the traditional route; instead, you will apply through the ministry of defense at your home country. See the following: www.academyadmissions.com/prepare/international/#:~:text=International%20students%20cannot%20apply%20directly,in%20the%20home%20country's%20military.
