Right and wrong never was the same as the community going along with it.
The same people who won't obey till they get specific examples are the same who won't follow the teachings on who to be advised by after Prophet Muhammad.
It says in al mustadrak ala al sahihayn volume 3 page 131 hadith 4617:
عن أبي ذر رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله : «من أطاعني فقد أطاع الله ومن عصاني فقد عصى الله ومن أطاع علياً فقد أطاعني ومن عصى علياً فقد عصاني» .
On the authority of Abu Dharr, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of God said: “Whoever obeys me has obeyed God, and whoever disobeys me has disobeyed God, and whoever obeys Ali has obeyed me, and whoever disobeys Ali has disobeyed me.”
Al Hakim says it is Sahih and al Dhahabi says it is Sahih

Wasn’t Ali RA also at Hudaybiya? Are you saying he was also sinful in not following Allahs command?

You are wrong,had there been any declaration of succession the prophet would have announced it at Hijjatulwida in the presence of 124 thousand sahabas.the ghadeer incident is different and there were few men on the occasion.
Now about the pen and paper at the death bed there was Hazrat Ali also present on the occasion besides Hazrat umar.He could have given the paper if Hazrat umar didn't do so.
