Yes. What a stupid fucking title. Ethan is doing fine. He has talked about this episode many times. And as he says, he was depressed before the episode. There are something called "triggers", which is what Burr was for Ethan.
And of course Burr felt bad. This was also when Burr was a bit too into the drink, which might have been a factor. But maybe not. I see how going on podcasts all the time gets tiresome.

Exactly! Bill Burr was a grumpy asshole, but that's who he is. He acts like that in a lot of interviews. I can't understand why Ethan would jump into an interview with someone as challenging as Bill Burr and expect a different result. It seems like he was completely unprepared; he didn't do any research into Burr's previous interviews and try to learn/avoid things that rub him the wrong way and he didn't bother to come up with interesting or original questions.
I watch every video Sunny, but that title is a little harsh. Should add an (almost) before ruined.

What I love most about Sunny’s videos is that his comment section is actually willing to be diverse and bring arguments from all sides. Not just everyone taking one side.
Of course there’s been some blunders here and there but please keep it up Sunny. At least you’re consistent with good editing and presentation.

Bill just isn't a fun person to interview. He's a comedic legend, but not a good interviewee.

I think he has many more good interviews than bad and he almost always throws jabs and jokes at the person interviewing, but sometimes he’s extra extra harsh. In the H3 one I think it was a combination of him being extra harsh coupled with Ethan’s VERY lacklustre interviewing skills that just made it awkward.
Tell that to Conan O'Brien. Bill Burr is a fantastastic interviewee. He just has zero tolerance for bullshit. But bullshit is all this inauthentic owner of a podcast has to offer. This is why the episode got derailed. Ethan is a shill, fake compliments, fake laughter, no preparation and was just looking for a low-effort repeat of Bill Burrs last 150 podcast appearances somewhere else. Bill Burr wanted none of this and also has been protective of his privacy for years. It's not like Ethan would have done something enlightening with Bill's private information.
I think it’s because Ethan had been interviewing complete pushovers. Ethan wasn’t ready for someone more abrasive and definitely should have done more research in that respect because it’s something that Burr has been open about.
If he seems uncomfortable talking about something say my fault and move onto something else, go along with the jabs, stay grounded, don’t make anything seem like you’re trying to put him down. He’s a tough customer but Ethan just made a lot of stupid choices in that first interview.

Ethan either really over estimated his own skill level and experience, or he grossly underestimated Bill Burr's ability to...well, to be Bill Burr.
For Ethan to jump into interviewing someone like Bill Burr, being relatively new to podcasting and interviewing real celebrities (not youtube and tiktok influencers), and be totally unprepared to handle a guest that challenging was a terrible idea. Had he done his research and taken the time to listen to a bunch of Burr's other interviews, he would have known he can be a closed off, moody, asshole during interviews. He could have at least tried to learn and avoid what triggers him (like compliments right out the gate), what has rubbed him the wrong way in previous interviews, and spent time coming up with interesting, original, and light hearted topics. I mean, saying that bullying is good for kids and implying that Bill Burr is a creep about his own daughter....that was the best he could do?
That being said, Bill Burr was an asshole and there was just no reason to act like that. He agreed to be interviewed by someone who isn't a seasoned, professional journalist, which means he should have known he was gonna be asked poorly written questions about topics he's talked about a million times. It's not like Burr needs the money or the exposure, so if he didn't want to go on and have a good time he should have just said no. He acted like an entitled dick and it was a really shitty thing to do.

The podcast was one of those videos you already know how it's going to play out. When I first saw it pop up my first thought was: "this is a bad idea ethan" knowing he's new to podcast and yeah after watching some of it I went "yep" and closed the video.

he needed to ask more open ended questions, rather than stating opinions then asking for thoughts. if he said, "Do you think bullying is important in childhood" or "what do you think of bullying in school". if you want to add an opinion do it after the guest has answered, "yeah personally, i think bullying is good, i was bullied and am a better person for it. it taught me resilience" something like that. its hard to be a casual asshole, when the questions posed are open ended, and require the guest to state their mind.
